Art Class

Art - Sketching Still Objects.

Using soft and hard pencil strokes we want to comfortably and confidently sketch still objects.  Our First sketch will be a set of flowers.

1. Sketch the flowers in your scrap book.  Focus on practicing the techniques displayed in class and in the video.
2. Use the squint test to "see" that your sketch is "soft" and life like.
3. experiment with using a touch of colour to enhance your composition
4. Sketch your flowers in good copy on the provided card stock.  You can use any size paper for your final copy.

Here is the link to watch flowers being sketched

Framing:

Art – How to mat and choose the appropriate colour for your frame.  You have 4 options:
1.     Cold Frame pasted on a piece of bristolboard (cold are colours such as black, blue, purple, etc.).
2.     Cold Frame matted properly constructing a real matte.
3.     Warm Frame pasted on a piece of bristolboard (warm are colours such as red, yellow, orange).
4.     Warm Frame matted properly constructing a real mat.

* When selecting your frame colour you should be aware of the colour tone of your art-work.  If your work is warm then you should choose a matte to complement it (warm) or choose one to contrast it (cold).

The Art Show:

To build on the success of our project we will run an interactive Art Show for Mrs. Suppa's Class.  It will be similar to our own peer evaluation time but include a few other elements:

1st I will give a presentation to Mrs' Suppa's class describing our activity and show them the Blog.
2nd they will ho around the view viewing the art and your scrap book with your original sketches.
3rd they will have a few student evaluation checklists to assess your work (they will be far more simplistic then our peer evaluation ones)
4th we will have a work station where you will demonstrate live your sketching techniques and then allow them to draw their own flowers

The room will be redesign to set up the necessary stations and workspaces

  13. Did you like the peer evaluation?

I think we are ready to put on an Art show for a primary class.

    ReplyDelete
  14. @Mr.Cheney: yes i did like the peer evaluation because we were all able to see and look carefully in detail at other peoples sketches.Because before when people showed us their sketch we didn't really pay attention to what was really important we looked at if it was a picture but this made me realize its more to just a picture then a drawing.

  15. @Mr.Cheney do you have to participate in the art show what if your not like me and donna?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Participate, yes, we can discuss in class how you would like to participate, if you truly don'
t want the little grade 1s to see your flower, something else can be arranged. They will love them

  17. Anybody like the G O L D flower breaking through the pavement, How HEROIC! a wonderful symbol!

    ReplyDelete
  18. ummm i still think its going to get crushed by someone's feet

    ReplyDelete
  19. @wordnerd:i agree
mr.cheney: this picture is to much into its self meaning its not the only colorful thing there and its so tiny on the ground alot of people tend to walk with their head up and so might not even see it

    ReplyDelete
  20. @mr.cheney I like how the background looks all grey and faded out, also the camera is focusing on the flower so carefully BUT i still think someon will crush it's dreams of escaping, meaning it will get crushed lol

    ReplyDelete
  21. perhaps that is part of the symbolism, dreams and greatness are often unseen and crushed from above.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Mr.Cheney when are we gonna start our next part of art and what is it gonna be?

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Mr.Cheney I can't wait till the next art show or whatever we do with the grade 1's also I can't wait for the next step in art, what are we doing next?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes but its more likely for the YELLOW flower to get crushed because it grew in the wrong spot

    ReplyDelete
  25. @ mr.cheney
I THINK, the ratio from failure to success is:
    60:70
    is this considerable?

    ReplyDelete
  26. We shall investigate the ratio,

next art task is picture taking of small objects, then sketch and framing your picture and sketch.
