Evaluating Teachers.

Twitter Articles

Hey Team I Tweeted an article a few days ago exploring the question; should students evaluate teachers?

1. Read the Article (It is written for a older audience so it may be tough to follow) Certainly go through the 1st few paragraphs to appreciate what the author is arguing in favour off.

2.  Answer the Question; Do you feel students should evaluate teachers? Why or Why not?  If Why then explain how this should be done?

3. Again lets focus on building a back and forth dialogue with your peers.  Your comments and opinions are validated by the amount of responses they generate. (post your answer and share 8 comments on other posts)

This could be a hot topic button because it directly relates to you the students and I the Teacher.

  1. yes i do feel that student should evaluate their teachers.teachers should be evaluated because when students give feed back teachers can then improve on themselves for example a students says to a teacher we need to do more hands on activity. after receiving the feed back the teachers than can use it to make themselves a better teacher.students get evaluated by there teacher of how well they do in school so students can improve themselves so why don't we evaluate teacher to improve them.also i agree with the article on how " When your students see that you read their comments and make adjustments, they will be impressed.".i agree with this because this is showing how you could become a better teacher by taking in feed backs and actually improving yourself.i think when the students she their teacher improving i think the student might start improving themselves to.

    1. would teachers do it for the right reason (for the kids satisfaction) or would they do it as a threat(so they can not lose their job)?

    2. i don't think any teacher wants to be a bad teacher.for example you were a teacher and you heard bad comment about the way you teach won't you want to change the way you teach?

    3. Sana I agree with you that teachers should be evaluated because the teachers would have a better chance to improve themselves and also if the "students" are telling them that oh we need to do more hands on activities the teacher will most likely listen to the student because who knows the student might improve after the teachers do what the students want to do,or how they want to learn.

    4. Do you think teachers will like being evalutaed? They will figure out the truth on how much a kid actually likes their teaching and how much they dislike. So if we bring that to mind wont teachers feel mad, like as a student we get report cards on how well or how bad we are doing that is to help us in the future to improve on our skills but teacher's , they have a future too but they are done school why do they need to be evaluated. They were chosen to be a teacher because they way the act and the way the preform they already have been evaluated...whats your opionion?

    5. It depends on the teacher, if a teacher does nothing but give you worksheets for the whole period and doesnt go over it and teach, its likely she/he doesnt care one bit about our education because teachers will get paid whether theyre good or not. As long as us students dont speak up they cant lose their jobs.

      Delete
    6. I agree on the hands on activity part and do you think that teachers would really change in how they do their work?

    7. I think they would only if the parents told the teacher or if a formal letter is given

    8. Why doesn't the students want to talk to there teacher or someone that can help change there learning styles so they can learn better if they do there not only helping themselves but there helping either who think the same

    2. When a student gets to evalute a teacher will they take it in a wrong way by that i mean the students will try to make school life much more easier ? and if they do get to evalute do you think they will write nonsense like crazy stuff because people can write false stuff about the teacher

    3. Ia agree with all of this but do you think that we should evaluate teachers in Beaumonde or not?

    4. i think that it is a great idea to evaluate teachers but like what neha said people will say bad thing s because they the teacher

  3. In my opinion i think that students have the right to evaluate their teachers. I think that the whole reason the teachers are there is to teach the students right, to help the students, to make every student leave the classroom with a mind filled with knowledge and comfort coming back. And if students feel that they havent gotten that, they have all the right to speak up. Our education is important and if we agreed to be apart of a public school system then we should get what we came here for.

However, (thinking on another perspective) students dont always have to rely on the teacher, they have to be independent when learning as well, if they feel that the teacher's way is confusing or not something they're comfortable with, they can use modern day technology (usually they have to when at home) to search up the lesson and learn how to do it another way.

Reading the article, Its sad hearing about college instructors doing poorly to reach the needs of their students, based on what the students are saying. Mostly because its college and college would be really important for the students and their careers, its kinda ridiculous because they're also paying for the course and they should recieve the best, better then public school education (k-12)

    1. i agree with you that you can't always rely on the teacher you have to take some responsibilities. However as like we talked in class in math mrs. steer only wants it her way if we do it another way we will get it wrong also it is just not that teacher many other teacher only like it their way.

      Delete
    2. i agree with aqib and i think thats exactly why teachers need feed back or we should evaluate them

      Delete
    3. I think teachers will be not so upset when hearing feedback, i dont think they would take it personally. Maybe they'll become a better teacher. Thats just a commited teacher, but there are also teachers who dont care about their students as much as they do their pay check, and those teachers should be fired.

      Delete
    4. i agree with you but aren't we already evaluating our teachers, like if we dont agree with something/someone then we can give a petition to the principal/vice principal( if majority of the people are in favor to that certain topic) we dont have as much as authority as the article says we should have but we have a choice to evaluate our teachers and thats through a petititon.

      Delete
    5. its like the article the teacher first took it seriously but then thought about it and try to improve.

      Delete
    6. Hey, but what if the student is fooling around and gave there teacher a bad review when the teacher is actually good?

      Delete
    7. @sana yes, i guess its true a teacher is nothing different from us, they can take it personally as well.

@tulsi that only happened maybe twice before and it didnt go well because as olga is saying the kids were being foolish and not giving a good judgement on the teacher, just hating on him/her.

      Delete
    8. then the students reveiw would be the odd one out you do know there is more then one student who writes a reveiw

      Delete
    9. The only place where middle schools kids right a review is on ratemyteachers.com and that wont do anything at all. It wont change the teachers way of teaching. Are you talking about college kids?

      Delete
    10. then wouldnt the principal judge that? if our advices can be in a different perspective that can be harmfull to a teachers career, why should we be able to evaluate teachers?

      Delete
    11. I agree with you donna but wonder if the child is afraid to share their opinion. People arent always as open to share. what should they do then?

      Delete
    12. I agree, I don't think that teachers will take the evaluation seriously because it is constructive criticism we get it all the time so I think they'll be able to take it

      Delete
    13. I agree but don't you feel that teachers might hold a grudge on you for saying things they don't want to hear like: You could of explain this steps more so that it would of been easier for me to understand. Something like it?

    14. i agree i think there should be at least one or two tdsc person who would come around to the school than classrooms to see the progress other than like 2 a school year

      Delete
    15. Not always will the teacher take it personally.
And Tulsi, when it comes to education its more important that we get what the system is all about (giving us an education) rather then an adult losing their job.

      Delete
    16. its not about the teacher losing their job, its about them becoming a better teacher. i think it would be a good idea but it actaully depends on the teacher (like how theyll take our evaluation). i agree with bubbles that someone from the tdsb should evaluate teachers, because as mr cheney said in class, he doesnt mind being evaluated but it should be from the right person (not someone with a bad reputation).

      Delete
    17. But how would the tdsb person know how the teacher is, the teacher could be actually teaching when the tdsb person is there.

  4. throughout all my years of being a students i heard many comments on how bad a this teacher is (to admit i also agree with them sometimes). However,i noticed these people will never complain to their teacher or even tell there parents. For instance there once was a boy named jim he did not like his teacher because no matter how hard he tried he does not get a good mark. However,HE WILL NEVER TELL THE TEACHER ABOUT HER/HIS PROBLEMS.he only thought that if he did his teacher will hate him

this is the main problem with evaluating teacher you are always scared what they will say after what you said sure you can make it "anonymous writer" but they still know how you write.

i would like to have a chance to evaluate a teacher so my voice and everyone's voice will be heard but i am always scared of what teachers will say in other words "get judged"

    1. nice point with the story i agree if we did a evaluating the teacher could have tried to improve.also i think sometimes teachers keep talking to much(not you mr.cheney)and some kids are more like pyshical learners

      Delete
    2. ya also that point there is many physical learners so there should be teacher that can teach physical and they can just talk

      Delete
    3. Well thats the thing, the reason why some kids get high marks and others fail could be because of their way of learning their best, some auditory kids will love when their teacher gives a verbal lesson...

      Delete
    4. i agree with the thought that students may also be afraid of what taechers may say to you. so i like the idea of being anonymous if the student feels safer.

      Delete
    5. what do you mean give me an example because i don't think that happens

      Delete
    6. I agree but it's hard for a teacher to meets everyone's needs for that students certain learning skill such as auditory, independent etc maybe that's why they all have their own way of teaching

      Delete
    7. i dont think its how bad the teacher may seem they want us to learn and learn right if a teacher is most teaching a way u dont like or cant learn by tell the teacher and theres also the test sheet thing we do every year to know what learning styles are best for us

      Delete
    8. @ shelby
you're right about every student learning different, and teachers also teach different, and its hard to meet everyone's needs.

    9. in every subject, you learn something else, and that is a different learning style. but does that mean that the teacher's teaching style has changed?

      Delete
    10. the teachers cant treat them differently but maybe she can treat them the way they want to b treated bcuz what if the student think tht the teacher doesn't treat them equally so the teacher can try to teach them equally later on so evaluating teachers is helpful but again only if u post appropriate things or the things tht can happen

  6. Yes i think students should be allowed to evalutate teachers firstly because letting your teacher know how well he/she teaches them, helps them to realise what works and what doesn't. For an example a teacher has an skill they think it works great but you have a different opinion.

Secondly, students should state their opinion because their may be a teacher who is not teaching well and students are uncomfortable with that particular teacher. It allows kids to express their feeling without being judged or being afraid.

But, just because kids do not like their teacher as a person doesn't mean that that should effect the evaluation, the response should be based on the teachings.

Lastly, if there are very good teachers, and the students agree with this, that would boost the teachers confidence because they could teach knowing that the students appreciate him/her.

Therefore, teachers should be evaluated by their students because it helps them improve, helps seperate the good and bad teachers, and also helps the teacher trust that they are doing a good job.

    1. do you think that if we tell a not so good teacher that they are good at teaching do you think the teacher will improve

      Delete
    2. everyone has a different way of doing thing. i dont disagree with you but dont you think that some teachers may misunderstand this? like someone can think this in a bed way then a good way.

      Delete
    3. Not really because as once mr cheney said people think they are good so they stop trying. Its one thing being and the top and another staying at the top. But their has to be a reason that child said that and plus a teacher wont change according to one person's opinion they should change according to everyones so someone say they're mean and the other says they're nice then be okay dont be mean be nice but take the anger when you really need it to

      Delete
    4. If students really wanted to evaluate their teachers they don't need to wait until this "specific day" they could just walk up to the principal and say "I want to talk about Mr/Ms..."

      Delete
    5. everyone thinks different and for that we each have are own way of learning they evaluation can help the teachers and the students maybe its because of media. In media everything is changing and are schools stay the same meaning the same learning styles with books and paper work

      Delete
    6. would rather judge a student or a teacher? Which one do you think is easier? Youve been around by more students than ever but you get taught by the teacher more than students.

      Delete
    7. @ aqib no if we tell a teacher your doing a good job its first not realistic and second the teacher might be so ecstatic that he or she will think they are at the top and they will stop improving.

      Delete
    8. @ Stanley:they can do that but think about it every day a student comes up talking about this teacher do you think the principal or someone can remember that and even if they do write it down on a sticky that sticky can get misplaced plus how much time do they actually have to go and talk to the teacher personally?it can get lost i think its best to go straight to the teacher

      Delete
    9. i would say who do you know best a teacher or student. People react a way for a reason it can be anything that's bothering them that's why they may have a certain attitude a certain language. I would say the teacher is easier to judge because you see their habit's every single day where as a student you're not always with them so you wont know if they change the next day(mood swings)

      Delete
  7. Yes I am sure that students should evaluate teachers because what if the kid(student) is not learning in the class and he doesn't get anything out of it. Ill use my self as an example; in maths class most of the time I think that should I tell my teacher she doesn't know to teach math and I don't get the way the teacher teaches. I am sure this would be a good way to tell the teacher and so she improves next time, its like her report card.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i agree even teachers should get a report card however like what donna said we can't always rely on the teacher

      Delete
    2. giving a report card to teacher is like evaluating them but it depends on who write the report card if the principle write it that won't be really acurate because the principle doesn't spend much time with the teacher

      Delete
    3. How about if a student doesn't like a teacher and purposely gives a false report on their teacher's behalf.

      Delete
    4. In your example you said you don't understand math half of the time and blame the teacher, how would you evaluate her then? What would you say?

      Delete
    5. i think some of us cant get are opinion out of the way to see what a teacher can do its not if u like them or not its what u get out of it what u learn that they u know and understand it sometimes we can help are self not all on the teacher search it up find different ways yourself a teacher cant always help u

  8. @sana
i get what you are saying but sometimes teachers change for the wrong thing they change for the reason that he or she can't get fired

    1. isnt it realistic to worry about getting fired though?

      Delete
    2. yes but does the student opinion matter to the person who going to fire the teacher.

      Delete
    3. i think it should because the person who is going to be firing the teacher is the principal right so why wouldnt she care if the teacher is going to be fired of course a teacher is worried because its them who have to teach and its for us to make sure we understand

      Delete
    4. if you were to fire some one, you'd need some explanation on why. i don't think a boss would EVER fire an employee for no reason.eather they have to witness the employee off topic (job) for e.g.. playing a game on your iPhone while at work, or not finishing the work that was given. but not randomly without witnessing anything.

      Delete
    5. @ aqib
would you rather be a true teacher or a lazy teacher? but get the same pay. In a real life situation many of us would of acted like a lazy teacher because wheather you are successful or not you still get the same pay.

      Delete
    6. well sure but it would be the teachers fault if we grew up and we were poor

      Delete
  9. Yes, I do think students should evaluate their teachers. Students are evaluated by their teachers, which helps them improve. So why shouldn't teachers get the same opportunity? It should have an even higher demand. The students are dependant on the teachers to learn and be successful. Also the teacher may seem like they're getting through with their students but in reality nobody understands a thing. Everyone interprets it differently.

I think students should evaluate their teachers just like a student's progress report. About halfway (or sooner) throughout the year, the students can reflect on the teachers learning; strengths, weaknesses, what they like and dislike. They can later give it to the techer and they'll adjust accordingly. Its better for the teachers and students if the teachers know how they're doing as well.

    1. I think it is good to give the teacher time & the students time because everyone need to think hard on evaluating teachers because if it is a bad report it might get serious.

      Delete
    2. If its a bad report I think it actually will be helpful. Constructive critism will help the teacher (and the student) improve. Posative things are nice to hear as well though.

      Delete
    3. do you think a good way to evaluate the teacher is sending a report or speaking to them in person

      Delete
    4. I think sending a report card would sometimes be better. The student might not speak their true opinion if they have to speak to them in person, so it might help in that sense.

      Delete
    5. i agree there's no reason students cant evaluate there teachers some of us do it right now and some dont know it a report card can be the best way some people can be to shy say the wrong thing or there to afraid to say the truth or just say what they have to say top the teacher straight up

      Delete
    6. if we are going to evaluate a tecaher then why not give them a report card then, have a "teacher/student" interview. a report card will only tell their ratings but a interview with the teacher will be giving them constructive criticism and ways to improve.

      Delete
  10. Yes, I think that students should evaluate their teachers. I prefer that students that go to university or collage do it not students in high school or elementary school. The reason why is because children like to gang up on teachers we don't like. Some people are immature so they would put something silly as a joke, but it wouldn't end up so funny. People in collage or university would do it more truthfully because they would have to pay for the school, in high school you don't so students wouldn't care as much. There has been an incident where a class tried to get rid of a teacher, it didn't work out. Why? Because they were a bunch of grade 4's that didn't like there teacher so they tried to get rid of her. If you were to give it to a bunch of Grade 8's at least give them a box to fill in why this teacher is bad, they could just be fouling around.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's true, it would be more effective in University or Collage. I do think that it would be taken a bit more seriously in Grade 12 or maybe even 11. The students are adults there so maybe they'll be less immature.

      Delete
    2. I agree, but in high school you don't pay for your education, in university you do so you take it much more seriously.

      Delete
    3. its true that in collages and universities they have to pay so they would probably want a good teacher and in high schools and elementary schools they don't have to pay so they can just write lie about their teachers and try to get rid of her which is not fair for the teacher.

      Delete
    4. Without having teacher's criticism in high school and elementary school, how would students be able to build up to even have their professors criticism then?

      Delete
    5. I agree, it more useful in college because I'm sure students in elementary and high school would give their teachers harsh comments because they dislike them

      Delete
    6. i agree it can be about the immaturity between the stages and i think collages and universities should be more important because its there time to leave school soon to get a job somewhere they wouldn't want to slack of then and end up with no job and to take care of there family when they get one

      Delete
    7. but saying stuff like you suck won't help you at al in your studies, so i think people would want to give constructive criticism.

      Delete
  11. Students evaluating teachers is something that should be done because teachers should understand what the students are handling the studies and how difficult it is for them. In the article they mentioned how in every test they have, the teacher should ask some question such as: what was difficult etc, it would give a message to the teacher saying what needs to improve. If Beaumonde did start this, it would be helpful because the teachers would see what to do to help the students.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree with Beaumonde trying to do this, but do you think that student would really want to do that. Most students wouldn't really want to even right anything, they would just try to get it over with.

    2. I assume that students who care will say the things really going in there head but I would give it a try.

      Delete
    3. What would happen if a student has hate against a teacher and gives in a false report?

      Delete
    4. Then the teacher should see that their is a problem between them and fix it.

      Delete
    5. what if the teacher cant see the problem between them and take the false report and changes it? nobody is making a big deal about it because no one else is were not doing anything about it. Should we will it change and help are better understandings and learning styles?

      Delete
  12. Yes i think students should rate and evaluate students as in most schools teachers are evaluated by their fellow colleagues and administrators the problem with this is that they are in the class for a very small amount of time that they only have a small look on how the teachers perform and teach and as well with that the teachers will perform and "act" better as they are around their colleagues are in class with them.To make this right we need to have the students who are in class everyday, and know how class really runs with no other teacher is there. In conclusion we should this not only to make the teacher teach "nicer" but as well better as they have the knowing of what and how is a better way for the students to learn.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That's why it is better in university or collage because you take it more seriously. The thing is we should be the ones who are nice to the teachers not really them to us. There older so we have to listen to them if we want to pass school.

      Delete
    2. i agree other teachers cant see the problem of there learning styles because there not teaching them there teaching the students. students act differently between each teacher they have each day and judge them differently between what they say and do just like the teachers they act differently between each other, how would they know the problem between the student and teacher?

      Delete
    3. I do like the point about teachers being evaluated by colleagues and administrators. And I do completely agree with this post because, the administrators aren't always there to see whats going on. And your right students are always there in class, right in front of the teacher watching and observing how they teach.

      Delete
  13. in my point of view i think that students should evaluate their teachers because it can help the teacher to know what your students think about you and it can also help the teacher to improve his/her teaching skills. for example what if the teacher is not teaching good or maybe the way she should be teaching and in that case students evaluating can help her to become a better teacher.
i know that most of the kids don't even like their teachers but i think that she should be evaluated based on her teaching skills. students can give their opinions of how they feel about their teachers which is a great way to help your teacher.

      Delete
    6. @orangejuice cameras r not tht necessary
bcuz what if the kids lie on the cameras too but i think tht the teachers know their students so if the students are lieing then the teacher should know about tht and secondly just like janat said they cant watch all of the classroom videos.

  14. i think evaluating your teachers would be kind of weird, but it makes sense to do it. teachers send us feedback about what we are doing and what we should do better.
we should do the same, and send feedback about teachers and what they can do better. i agree with the author of the fact that it could be the teacher, not the student.

i think that we should "grade" our teachers in an election type of manner. we have a private spot to grade our teachers, and also send feedback. it could also be anonymous. i like this idea better than what the author said about at the end of the test having a few questions to answer.

  15. Yes, I think students should evaluate their teachers because their are teachers who don't know how to teach properly. Sometimes their teaching style doesn't work and they might not even notice if a student is struggling.Instead they just keep using their own ways just because they were taught in a similar way.Teachers have to try new things and see what works with their students. With students giving judgment teacher's could get a glimpse of the students perspective.

    1. I agree with you but teachers have heard about how our class is using technology to learn , they have heard about it and people from the district school board have said they should try but some people in the school haven't changed the old teaching way's people teach the way they have been though so what makes you think that they will change their mind now?

    2. @Neha, I'm not saying they will change instantly but i think it would happen. If all the teachers had access to technology then i think they would use it for the benefits of students.

    5. @bubbles i agree using technology is bitter sweet meaning that it good because students can use it to get facts of a certain topic but bad because you can never trust if the student is actually doing their work or just on a social media website

      Delete
    6. @Bubbles and Shelby, True but it depends on how much the teacher trusts their students. If the students want the privilege then they would try to keep it.

  16. I think the way to solve this by having the students to have every term a online survey which in they evaluate every teacher. If the teachers do get a bad rating they should say why the teacher got low scores and then they should let them suggest ways for the teacher to improve.

    4. @ orangejuice i dont agree with that because dont you want to evaluate the teacher? Dont you want him or her to improve on something YOU see they lack on? Not others right. Everyone sees the same teacher but all think different.

      Delete
  17. I believe that students should evaluate teacher due to the fact that, it would help the teachers on how they teach maybe because they think they're doing a "really good job" but then the students don' think they're doing such a good job, sometimes you do need the judgement in order to improve on something you do. For example: Basketball. You need the coach to yell at you, for yourself to improve.

There maybe some "hate", meaning students that have a grudge on teachers because maybe he/she did something they didn't like. That would be a problem for evaluating teachers, some student could make up a lie and then everything goes down.

^^ If that does happen, teachers are going to start choosing people to do the evaluation but then that would be a bias evaluation because you are choosing specific students and not choosing everyone to do the vote.

All in all I think evaluating teachers is a good idea. But, you may have some problems you might encounter when you do have the survey.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I agree with the hate idea. Teacher's would want to give a good report to the main TDSB or TCDSB because there would be more oppertuintes for a promotion or even higher rank.

      Delete
    2. Yes, and if they get good reports from specific students like students that are doing exceptionally well, they would give in a great report on how the teacher's doing due to the fact that they have no problems with the teacher.

      Delete
    3. @Stanleylu0ng, I agree but do you think the teacher would read all the reports or surveys? They might just read afew and only try to work on those things.

      Delete
    4. I think teachers would read "all" reports and not be bias about any of them but choosing specific ones to read, because if you're aren't worried about what students have to say about you, why wouldn't you read it? You only choose not to read all of them because you're worried about students writing horrible comments about you.

      Delete
    5. @stanleylu0ng y would the teachers b worried to read the posts which r already posted???
even if the teacher reads them it wouldn't make a difference but if she ignores those posts then thats a different thing.....

    6. Teachers have fear, some fear of judgement. Some really don't care about what you write about them.

      Delete
  18. Yes, i think that students should evaluate teacher because not only will it help the student and make them better learners and achieve higher, it will as well help the teachers.

Many teachers have their own way of teaching some of which a student will not benefit from and make it harder for them to comprehend, so with allowing students to evaluate teachers it will make them aware of what students would like to see in their class and how they can learn better.

So, in conclusion i feel that it would be a good idea for students to evaluate because its a way that the teacher know what can make their teaching skills better to help benefit the student

    2. Yes, I do think the teachers would change because it would be pointless to be doing a teacher evaluation without the teacher changing to help the students and when we get bad grades we know that we must do better or change what we are doing to get a better grade so I think it would be the same for teachers

  19. I think students should evaluate their teacher because of the fact that everyone needs criticism to become a better person. Now, I'm not saying go and say "Hey, Mr.White you stink" I'm saying you could say something like "Mr.Cheney I think the lectures are too long" (I actually like lectures) But, that what I'm talking about. People change in a positive way if you show them where their wrong and where their right. You can relate it back to a diamond, It's going trough constant pressure but, in the end it's a diamond. And we should strive to earn that. "Change Brings Opportunity"-Nido Queben

Another reason why we should give 'constructive' criticism to our teachers is because if you are out-dated how will a student learn comfortably? We are a bi-product of society, and society is forever changing. So if a teacher has a typewriter, will you not laugh, crack a joke, or say "It's the 21 century get in to it". Another example of this is the new iPhone 5 that's rumored to be coming out, what if they made the iPhone 3 and just made it new? How angry would everyone be at Apple?

And Lastly if we are evaluated every single day of our lives by teachers, wouldn't it be fair for us to mark our teachers for once? There is always the comments section but that really doesn't count. My point is what's stopping us from assessing our teachers? At the end of the day we're all human, and whether your student or teacher your always learning new things.

I agree but some people don't like to being criticized even tough they are teachers but still people don't really care like their are a few students at Beaumonde that when you point out something about them they don't really change they become stubborn and begin to change opinions about people.

      Delete
    4. @Neha That depends on how open or close minded you are. The more open minded your are the more intelligent, the less open you are the more ignorant. And teachers have to be accepting, to their students various, statements, religions, morals and values and ethics. Therefor if teachers are open minded they won't act so stubborn. And change can make a way better teacher.

      Delete
    5. @tabish: but what do we do if they are stubborn and don't change whats really the point of evaluating its just a waste of time

  20. Yes I think students should be given a chance to evaluate teachers because your letting the teacher know her/his pros and cons and if your letting her/him know what their doing wrong they can improve themselves and you can learn in a more efficient way.

Also another reason why students should evaluate their teachers is that if the teacher is teaching you something in a way that you don't understand at all and you lose focus/concentration then it will be harder to bring you bak on track and if you tell the teacher that you don't understand then she/he can help you out and he/she can think of a another way thats easier to teach you

    2. its true that they need to know that their teaching method is not affective but what if the teachers just read the feedback and ignore it by thinking that i teach good but these kids r too dumb to understand me so in this case evaluating your teacher will be useless so i think that the teachers need to understand it and take it seriously to improve their teaching methods

  21. Yes i do think students should evaluate there teachers because not only it will help them with there learning it will help them better understand what they have to learn.

Firstly students learn differently and the teachers wouldn't know if there teaching style will help the students through there school work other then there marks of course it could be one of the reasons why students drop out of school because of the teachers and there styles of teaching

Many teacher have different ways of teaching either the old way with lots of books and paperwork or the 21st century with all the new technology and the connection the have to all the resources with just one click of a button if students evaluate there teachers they will learn what teaching style will best work for there students

  22. 2.)I think that students should be allowed to evaluate the teachers because it would allow us to give what we think the teachers should teach in that sort of way. Sometimes, when we learn we tend to not be focused on how we are learning and i'm saying that if we were to minimize the unnecessary talk that some people would like to protest about. It just doesn't keep our head in the game.

    2. Personally, I think it would give our teachers a insight of how they should teach. Or, how will they teach.Depends on the district they will have to look over the first few posts about the teachers. If it's a bunch of spam then they can cancel out the idea of having students look over the work that came out as a product of the teacher.Grade the teachers in the school to as how they are grading us because sometimes the teacher doesn't work right.Have multiple sources for the judgement of others.Ideally,we would want the teachers graded fairly but, a realization is that that is a myth.

But the multiples resources idea maybe can work so it isn't full of spam.Check students grades, and learning skills if the grades are bad but the learning skills are good then it most likely would be the teachers fault.

i agree with our point about what you said to aqib that teachers wouldnt want to get fired, and changing their teaching styles for the wrong reasons.

  24. I think students should evaluate teachers, not evaluation like "hey mr.cheney you suck" but constructive criticism. sure everyone can say the teacher sucks, but that won't get you anywhere. like mr.cheney said, they don't become teachers for good feedback , but to teach students. they know how to handle insults because they aren't expecting good feedback.if we GIVE constructive criticism, we will GET comfortable learning.

Since students all learn differently, then if we give some constructive criticism, we will be taught the way we want to, not like how they teach everybody else.and its our future, the better the teacher, the more we would learn.so yes we should be able to evaluate teachers

    8. would you want the teacher to teach you the way you want or not get good marks?

  26. I think students should evaluate teachers not the reason that we are equal so the teacher notices how you feel about him or her teaching you. I think the votes or the feed back shouldn't be anonymous but some students still have a fear that the teacher is going to hate on them and give them bad marks. That's why many would agree on anonymous.

I also think teachers shouldn't go overboard and blow their heads of as well when they get negative feedback, they should be already mentally prepared.

Coming back to the students perspective, I think the students should have a criteria prepared by both the teacher and students therefore they can agree and disagree. Another point is that the students should have enough responsibility and should be responsible to participate in this constructive event. They need to be mature enough to give good criticism thus the teacher can either ignore it or improve on it.

  27. I think that it would be a great idea for students to evaluate their teachers. Not just because of the reason Mr.Cheney gave us in class, because we are not equals. Teachers evaluate us for our understanding towards our knowledge. I think that we should be able evaluate our teachers so they know how we feel about them and the way they teach.

I also think that the feedback that we will be giving should be appropriate and reasonable.
I agree with what Abesshan said in hit post that if we did do it anonymous that the students will have a fear that the teacher will end up hating if the student decides to evaluate them by saying something bad.

I think that rating teachers is possibly good thing and bad at the same time because one side it helps teachers know what types of learning styles there students like and the ways they learn easier and faster. But on the flip side teachers can be offended because kids will evaluate with cruel words and the kids can be immature and write vulgar things like something LISA would say "OMG hes such a bad teacher OMG he sucks OMG like OMG". so it pretty much depends if the teacher has enough trust in there class and they're comfortable with the evaluation well they have to be if they're gonna do this
