How would you describe James? (comment on his appearance, attitude, character traits)
Is he realistic?
He commented "that watching the North tower burn on TV was safer then watching it through the window." Is this true? Why do you think he felt safer? Should he have a reason to panic yet?

ReplyDeletei do agree with this because if i was watching the tower burning i would just feel like the south tower would catch fire.i think will panicking is ok because if i was in his situation i would be thinking of the what ifs like what if the south tower was hit.so thining of the what ifs would make me panic. i think will felt safer because in the t.v there would not be many detail like if the helicopter his making a film the camera won't show the burning pieces of paper.
would you say Will was thinking of what-ifs at that time, cause remember he was thinking that he was safe, he had a what if thought and thought it was crazy.
DeleteAlthough we haven't talked about James that much, he seems like he's more into the band then he is in school due to the fact that when they were in class the day before he was thinking about "cool" band names in class every-time he heard something cool.. I Think The Way He Dresses is like a rock star type-ish way but not hardcore rock star style.

DeleteI think James has a pretty confident attitude. I think he looks fairly average; t-shirt and jeans. He's probably fit because of his dad,and his fire fighter dream. I think James is definitely realistic, he sounds pretty average.
ReplyDeleteI think watching it on the TV opposed to the window isn't physically safer, just mentally. When you watch it on the TV it seems normal. Just another tragedy in the world. But when you watch it out the window everything changes. You're not watching it any more but living it. Your whole opinion and feelings change because its not any one, its you that this is happening to.

DeleteI think James is like different on the outside then the inside he feels different inside he feels like he's scared to get judged and I think he is realistic for panic the tower right beside him got hit and he could see its so scary that there jumping out and the tower could fall on there tower and there tower can get hit like that too. I think he felt safer because it might hurt and to watch people jump out is very scary and he said its like looking at the sun and that hurts so maybe because of that too.

DeleteYou have to think about how not all people think about what job there dad's have. In Will's case he does, and because of this he is afraid of being judged by his friends, that's why he is acting like that.

DeleteI picture James as a all to himself guy. Like he doesn't really care about what's happening around him, he just cares about his band and wants everything his way. He doesn't really care about the way he dresses because that doesn't effect his thinking or what so ever. I think he wears like a casual person would. Maybe a pair of dark blue jeans and a striped shirt.

I think watching the tragedy on T. V and actually living it is too different things. As Nicole said it isn't physically safer but it is mentally and that's true because on tv it doesn't seem as your actually living it but I still don't think this is true because your actually in the building, inside the twin towers watching the tv how does that make you feel safe I mean worried that maybe just maybe the south building will come down to and your in it watching the tv about the towers. That strikes you as safe?????? I don't think so. I think will panicking was normal because I'm pretty sure anyone in wills place would have also freaked out for sure because it's a time where the only thing you can think about is death and that's just scary it sends a chill down your bones and I know that if I was there in Will's place I would have freaked out for sure, I would have panicked and just would have run around the building trying to get out of there just in case something happens to the south building.

DeleteI think Will is an ordinary/typical teenager, like most kids who feel alone and unwanted when having parents who work and are busy that they cant spend time with their kids. His behaviour and sarcastic attitude towards it is normal. He looks the other direction to what his father and his co workers say about him and how much he wants to be with him, and he kinda snickered at his dad telling the people to go be with their families, and made an assumption that his father would still work even with the north tower distroyed. I think that would just be normal for Will, he is like those teenagers and kids you see in movies who have divorced parents and always want their father to spend time with them or at least call. I think this is all pretty deep in terms of the story with the characters, and of course what makes it even deeper is the whole background story, and it being about 9/11.
ReplyDeleteI guess Will was thinking that it would seem less realistic if you watch a tower burn on the news then it is watching it with your own eyes in person. Of course at that point everyone would rather watch it on a screen then through the window, knowing its closer to them, so danger is closer to them. When watching it on a screen it makes you feel like its happening somewhere else far from you, you feel safer that way. so Will is correct for thinking that.
Will would be in a state of shock, he was shaking when he was trying to use the phone, i actually felt the same when in a simular situation, i was so scared and shocked i couldn't dial 911.
Nice answer, but do you really think he is a 'normal' teenager? Because a 'normal' teenager these days is a person that has divorced parents and doesn't know what to do with there life so they ditch class and don't want to learn anything. When that happens, in high school, they will do drugs and drink. After they barley finish school, they won't know what to do with there life.
DeleteVery true Olga, that is the reality of a normal teenager now a days, but i guess i would consider Will a normal teenager in family movies, where they dont show any drug use, and violence which makes it pretty unrealistic, so Will would be considered abnormal by real teenage students.

DeleteWatching the north tower burn on TV is much safer because you're not there and if anything happens you know you're safe, considering that nothing can "hit" you from the screen. But Will is in the south tower and its not that far from them, I think Will should panic because why would the north tower get hit and not the south they're both important .

on the videos mr cheney posted, after the second plane hit the south, people were more worried, and some of the news reporters started saying: " this is not an accident. this is on purpose".
i think one of the news people said it was a terror attack before the second hit. but thats just one out of about 10 or so.
i think that James dresses like the average student wearing jeans and a plain t-shirt. I think that James is a very confident and ambitious person because of how much he wants to follow in his fathers footsteps and become a firefighter. I think what Will said is true because watching TV and being there in person are two different things, because watching TV is just hearing what the person on the channel is telling you and seeing a video whereas being there in person is exactly that, you are there first hand and feeling something that you never get wile watching it

ReplyDeleteI agree with Donna it wouldve seemed less realistic looking at the TV because it couldve been a TV show and it could affect him more its more dramatic watching something happen on TV then being there in person because you can see it with youre own eyes instead of seeing something visually altered and then theres the whole eyes burning and mentally harmful scenes
its something that people would feel more comfortable with, seeing it on tv rather then experiencing it with ur own eyes.

DeleteYeah Pretty Much What I was saying you see more than what is caught on camera since looking through you're own eyes is usually better than a camera and the camera wouldn't be able to catch every single thing since it probably couldnt have got in between the towers with all the smoke too.

2. I think that he is realistic because in the real world, people do act as James do. When he gets chances, he uses it to the fullest to hide away the lonely feeling in his body. It may seem that he isn't real because we knew that the Twin Tower was attacked. But if the Towers were not attacked then most of us would think that he was real. So in my case I think that James could be a real person.
3. I disagree with that statement because Will is in the building and to say that he is also beside that building which got hit. It doesn't make a difference if you see or watch from the television. The feeling of watching what has happened is so powerful that you can feel that you are actually in the time of place. The emotion are very strong because the first thing that comes into most people mind is "death".
The only reason why he said that he felt safer is for 2 reasons. 1st is because he is scared of highest. I agree that allot of people are scared of
highest but in that time period, many will not even notice it because of the fear of "will it happen to us too?". He should have a reason to panic because its a matter to life or death. But he doesn't know it's gonna happen to him to. All he knows it happen to the other Tower but not his. On his place, we would all be scared and frozen. We wouldn't have rushed out immediately.

ReplyDeleteadding on to my last post another reason for him to panic is because his dad said everyone leave the building so he might think that there's another plane coming to hit the south tower or the pressure things objects can come to the south tower from the north tower and hit him and if he was on that floor and he has been hit like that he's maybe thinking all that through in his mind.

ReplyDeleteI think Will is reasonable. We all know that the South Tower is going to get hit too, so why would he stand at the window. We all know that he doesn't know that yet so if he does look out the window, the other building can tip over or can do other disasters. Plus as Mr.Cheney said, you know more information when it comes to watching it on reality or tv, like someone in Canada watching this breaking news will have more information and can be safer.

i agree with will. seeing the crash happening right infron of your eyes is different then seeing it live on tv. seeing the crash right in front of you becomes a moment of your life ( you become a witness of this tragedy) and seeing it on tv is breaking news to you. you wont panick as much as seeing the tragedy in front of you then seeing it on tv.
ReplyDeletei do think that james is realistic. many people have simuliarities with james. james is like a realistic school student at the same time friend. when you find a class boring you are going to talk with your friend/the person beside you ( not only when the class is boring, many times during class) james had the question in his head "what should we name the band?" so he was more into naming the band then paying attention in math class.
@Toadette, I agree but you would worry too at the same time if someone in your family worked in the tower.The thought of losing them would be in front of your eyes but i agree seeing it in reality become apart of them and i don't think anyone forgot.

i think it is true. will could be talking about actual health and safety, and i would be worried about standing in the second tower. or, will would be talking about his fear of heights, or maybe it was too painful to watch in person, rather than just seeing it on a tv screen.
