INTRO
ReplyDeleteThe first video talks about how our brain takes short cuts and sometimes in a complex world with everybody's different opinions, it's hard to figure out when to use your head and when to take the shortcut. I think this is true because most of us, at many times take the wrong step like the short cut and fall back and we don't realize that taking short cuts doesn't help at all.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteIts about how our brains usually take the easy way out. They use their personal judgments to handle things and its important to know the real facts. Like making yourself sound effective to others like the example the guy used abut the kid talking to his dad.The guy make it sound more real so his dad would actually give more thought to it.
DeleteOur Brain Taking "Short Cuts" To Me It Means That Our Brain Hears Something We Heard Before And We Immediately Think That Thing So We Skip To Our Point Of Thought.
DeleteI agree with what Janat said our brain takes the easy way out when things get tough, and sometimes our brain takes the wrong step.
DeleteWe take short cuts because our brain cant handle so much work because its a pretty tiny brain but when it comes to point we should listen carefully because as Stanley said just hearing the word said you think you know it all but really it can be something different
Deletei think the video is true that we take shortcuts, and that we usually take the easy way out, and that it doesnt always lead you to a good situation.
Deletei find the logic part true, and also that even if you have logic, you cannot always get what you want.
i would say that this video is talking about how we shouldn't take the easy way out. As we may skip things we may need.
DeleteThe first video speaks about how our brains will take shortcuts because our minds can not simply carry every single bit of information. "The universe is a very big place, huge in fact and rather complicated" From this you can say that our brains only recall things in shortcuts. Sometimes we don't even notice that our brain is taking one. It can turn it's experiences into symbols and then use those symbols to recall feelings and sensations. But these shortcuts will fog the lines between what we know to be the case and what we feel to be the case (In the situation of shortcuts {That our brains are taking}). In short in a complicated world of different opinions it's hard to know when to take a shortcut or use our brains.
Deletethis video showed me that our brain takes short cuts by making their own right and wrongs but i learned that to prevent taking easy ways out you have to do research on a fact that supports your topic. to check if your fact is true you can research on the fact to see if it true.
Deletethis video shows that are brain take shortcuts or the easy way out are brains can hold almost every info that we learn or know it finds ways to make it just make it easier for us to think and process since the video shows us this we should find another way because we can learn new things on the way other than not just learning anything at all when we see, hear, smell, touch or taste anything we already might know its similar and are brain just amuses that we know what it is but its not all that true are brain takes steps that we might think is right but turns out to be the other way around
Deleteour brain takes short cuts which are sometimes bad because with taking a shortcut there is a higher chance you are wrong like in a math equation if you take the shortcut there is a high chance you are wrong.
DeleteThe first video explained that our brain takes shortcuts, because holds all the information and experiences that we have been through, that causes our brain to do so.
DeleteThis video talks about our brain and how it takes shortcuts. We usually all just take the easy way out.
DeleteOur brains are limited to understand a endless amount of information thus, we have to think harder and this is why we tend to take shortcuts. And our brains have a thinking of making things as simple as possible making a very easy argument to come back to.
DeleteUsing logic enhances our ability to have a better understanding of the things we can do with the power of this skill.
i agree it is much easier to take shortcuts to learn something rather than researching it for hours and finally get the answer. it would be much easier to watch a video or ask some one who already knows to show you
DeleteThe first videos like a intro and its saying like that are brain takes shortcuts becuase are brain is not used to be learning so it takes short cuts.
DeleteWe all need to work our brains and think hard, it may seem impossible but we need to prevent our brains from taking shortcuts, we need to at least be aware of it when it happens. Our biases come from these shortcuts, its like ignorance, when we dont know too much on the topic, our brain takes shortcuts into assuming things, we dont actually take our time and think.
DeleteFORMAL LOGIC
ReplyDeleteThis video talked about how many things may seem logical to us but sometimes they might turn out false.
DeleteSo something's don't connect to your topic (formal logic)
DeleteSomething we should be cautious of when we are listening to a speech, we have to do a lot of thinking, we have to think about all these things when writing and listening to a speech
DeleteThere are many things we should be aware of when writing a speech but what this video is saying is we should be cautious of would be logical fallacy and formal fallacy as they both will convince us of the wrong doing when researching and writing a speech.
Deletei think you need some background information in order for you to state if its a false statement or if its a true statement for example the value off each number if you now the value of 1 2 and 3 and know how to add then you should have no problem in adding them rather then making a mistake that 3+2=1
DeleteThis video also talked about how logic IS logic and something that isn't true could be logic but the conclusion just doesn't work out.
Delete@sonali:Things may sound true but in the end its not true that's why its important before stating something you have information and know that your 670-80 % correct
Deleteyou have to make sure that all your stats and opinions make sense also true facts
DeleteI got that it shows how our brain usually takes the easy way out, making their own assumptions. We have to set the false and right apart so we know which is true and which isnt. Its about how we develop into our personal judgments we make.We have to make sure and know what information is right which could include double checking on other sites about the same topic.
DeleteThis video shows how so many logic's looks correct but you actually have to look carefully to see if its true or false.
Delete@Neha Yeah your right we do need to have at least some background information about any topic we are writing or talking about because if we don't have any info it's just going to sound like we are talking about something we have no idea about and it's just going to make the audience bored.
Deletethis video confuses me, but i get that people will make logic into false statements, but making it look like its still logical.

DeleteYou should really think about it before you talk as in does this really make sense not in how it sounds but by the facts given
Deletethis video says sometimes the the true is false and it is vice versa
Deletefacts may seem real to us but might not be true
Deletei think the video is trying to say is we dont usually think before we talk or do something we think that might be true is false and what might be false is true we need to know facts or info that someone might be telling you and your making a judgement thats wrong you need to know everything about the subjet before you start saying something that might be wrong
DeleteThis video explains that many things might seem logical to us but this information might turn up being false.
Deletethe topic of this video is logic, which i think means having a speech that makes sense and is properly structured to capture the attention of your audience
DeleteSTRAWMAN
ReplyDeleteSo basically it's about our logic and that we have to be aware of making sure we say things that people will understand the wrong way?
DeleteIsn't that convincing your audience indirectly? But why convince them the wrong way/indirectly?
DeleteSorry I meant making sure you DON'T say things that your audience will misunderstand
Deletebut itsnt it that anyone can take a sentence the wrong way like for example the black being separated into a school if i say its better if we work in groups you could take as of its better for all the blacks to be in a same group. Any sentence can be taken in a wrong way so i guess you have to be very strong in wording
Deleteum well its more like trying to link your audiencein into your topic but in a diferent way. like you are saying something and your audience understands it a bit differently.
Delete@ neha i agree you have to be strong in wording but at the same time it shouldnt be hard to tell your message, so according to your audience use your word wisely (well your audeince is the middle school students and teachers.
DeleteSo its about making sure we chose what we say wisely because we have o make sure they understand the message we are trying to send.By using proper example and facts to prove your point.
DeleteThis video shows how you have to see if the person telling you the logic is true because they can fool you into looking like it is.
Delete@tulsi: yea people can take one sentence in various ways but we want to prove our point by the examples ,we want the audience thinking in the path that the person is thinking in
DeletePretty Much, This Is When People In Their Speeches Start To Talk About The Same Stuff Or Even Things That Don't Even Match Up With The Topic They Are Talking About .
Deletealso we don't want to be repetitive. don't say the same fact over and over again, try getting more facts for a more appealing speech.
Delete@toadette: very true our brains are made to here things 1 or 2 but when it repeats again and again the speech becomes boring.
DeleteThis video talks about that often many of us go off topic/ off track, over~simplify or even exaggerate when we are talking or writing an assignment and as Tulsi said we shouldn't be repetitive and we should try and get more interesting facts to appeal our audience instead of boring them like I said in one of other comments.
Deletethe video says a straw man was about moving an argument from one place to another which i agree with however the example they gave about the vaccine is not a good example.
Deletethis video is about how you bring up another subject, or say something partly true, but making it sound logical.
Deletebut actual logic can prove those false statements wrong. an example is the vaccination shot.
The third video speaks about the basic structure of logic. An example (First video)"All people are allowed to go, I am People, Therefor I should be allowed to go" Almost like solving a math equation, word problem. It shows how some logical arguments can appear logical yet, they are overly simplified, fabricated is the word. It also shows that there is more than one answer to a problem.
Delete@ malav so we clearly have to try to connect our facts with our topic and make sure they make sense
Deletei think strawman is when you have a good point, but dont back it up enough to prove your point.
Deletelike tabish said, fabricated
There are more then one solution to anything. People over exaggerate something that is false so you dont want to become a straw man a straw man is where people over exaggerate, go off topic or twisted versions of you idea other people can knock you idea over because it SOUNDS logical . While talking in a discussion you want to make a chain so if someone says getting vaccinated is good because you can get that virus at anytime and so you want to connect to that either maybe saying yes it is good because rather then getting sick then missing school and all of that its better to be prepared because they say expect the unexpected so you simply want to agree or disagree and give examples why.
Deleteor the straw man just doesnent prove his piont and hes overly simplified
Deleteyou have to be specific and explain it well so your audience knows what your talking about you.
Delete@anurag other than giving an example and get fooled how else can you get fooled
Deletebasically you have to know what your saying to someone and say it in a right way they understand in if you want to convince someone you have to have facts and you cant have facts from just one resources you have to have many to prove what your trying to say convincing is hard and you need enough support to convince others
Delete@tulsi
Deleteyes we do.
thats the only way to actually find out the logical solution.
SEPERATION
ReplyDeleteWhen we're listening to a speech, we should only pay attention to what the person s saying and leave our emotion out, and be cautious of our opinion on the speech because of how much we like the person talking or how much we don't like the person. It's something that automatically comes to our minds and interferes with our opinion, we jus have to be cautious of it.
Delete@donna i agree that we shouldnt over emotionize(if that's a word) our opinions on our topic. We have to convince our audience by telling our opinions but we don't need to over explain it. we need to support our opinion with good evidence .
DeleteSo its about listening to other about their opinions true facts can be stated true at times but its best if during a speech in delicate words are used AFTER the speech is done in private
Delete@ neha i dont really get what you are trying to say. are you saying hat we should use our facts and opnions but word them differently so they sound more like a argument?
DeleteIt explains how we shouldn't let our personal judgment of the judgment to get in the way when listening their argument. What they say might even be right or wrong but we cant juts say their right just because you like the person giving the argument. We should keep the judgement away so that we can give a proper response to the speech.
Delete*of the speaker
DeleteIt shows how we can't let our personal opinion come first before making a conclusion to the argument. Its a possibility that they might be right or wrong.
Delete@tusli: i mean exactly what janat said you can speak your opinion but that doesn't mean u stop the other person from speaking their opinion. You want to give people an answer but dont bring them down as in giving your opinion on the work they have done instead of saying oh this is so stupid simply say i like that you put your hard work into it but im not really falling in love with the idea
DeleteI Would Say The Same As Janat You Can't Let Judgement Take Over First You Must Hear What They Say Just Because They're You're Friend It Doesn't Mean That You're Friend Is Correct Or You're Not Agreeing With What Your Friend Says .
Deletewhat this video is trying to say is trying to say is that you should not go to conclusion before you have anything to back you up and you have to know that it is at least 100% correct
Deletei think that this means when listeniing to something, leave your emotions and biases behind then conclude if you would trust the person.its like running for president, of course there are going to be the people that only vote for peopl they know or like. then you might regret it a bit later and you might have thought that you should have left your biases when you voted or something
Deletei agree with this video many people say stuff with no back up and you should have back up because you can be wrong and have no reason to be right
DeleteThis video talks about how we need to separate our feelings with the actual info because if we let our emotions come in the way the argument will still be logical but it just won't be as reasonable as the actual information that we had gathered.
DeleteAlso like what Rohan said this video is also trying to tell you that you should have something to back your statement or conclusion and you should know that it's 100% true and then I think you should move on.
i agree with this video completely.
Deleteyou make your judgment and decision about the person, not their argument.
if you hate someone, you will try to prove them wrong.
ms. jaffar also talked about this. we would go in a circle and discuss about something.
ms jaffar always told us that we shouldnt agree or disagree with the person, but their statement.
@aqib isnt that the strawman video?
DeleteI also agree with this video, not because it makes sense, but because it's true. If you really Do hate someone, you will look at them in a completely different way. If you like someone, then YOU will see them differently, but in a good way.
Delete@Word Nerd
I remember when Ms.Jaffar would do that. I remember it as a fun activity. I also remembered that she would tell us, to use this skill in life, because it is a good one.
i agree, if your friend was up, and someone you hate is up, its most likely you will try to prove the person you hate wrong and your friend right.
Deletewhen saying a speech we should be aware the arguements we can have and consider them saying the speech.
Delete@prabhjot no i thought the strawman video is about changing the subject
Deletei think it is changing the subject or giving a poor answer
Deletebasically this video is telling us not to get are emotions get involved with the judgement or argument your trying to say and its also on the person your saying it to because if you dont like them your going to prove them wrong but if its someone you like your not going to prove it wrong your going to agree because you trust them and know there right and your info you have to know what your saying and know its right to prove or argue
DeletePATTERNS
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI don't really get how this relates to making or listening to an argument.
DeletePatterns are things that go through our brain many, many times. Patterns don't rally go by luck. Its the patterns or tricks they have on the system or object. Patterns can be seen everywhere. Our brain is used to seeing them
Deletei agree that we are always trying to find out some type of pattern, or trying to prove something without any real evidence.
Deleteand example is gambling. one time you got very close to winning. that makes you think that you are either going to:
A: get closer, or
B: win.
but that isnt the case. you may be loosing even harder. it has nothing to do with patterns.
We all assume whats going to happen next in probability based on the past results, even if its a 50 50 chance and its not about luck, its the reason why casinos make so much money. When we keep on playing thinking the results will get better because the past results werent so good, its just an automatic assumption. Probability is a complicated version of logic, we all think we have to chose one, for example when you flip a coin, we always chose and some people assume tails always gets more then heads even thought they are equally probable. But there could be other factors in this, it could be the way you flip the coin, it could be the surface you flip it on... So when we automatically assume things in probability we have to be aware that were assuming it and think about probability being more complex then that.
DeleteThis video about patterns is talking about how our brains have been set to see patterns but not everything is in a pattern. Logic is used in patterns but that statement isn’t always true and that’s were probability comes in . You can state unlikely, likely but not stating for sure because you don’t know that true fact about it.
Deletehow does this relate to saying speeches?
Deletethis video talk about how we are use to seeing pattern but the patterns do not stay consistant.
This video is about how our brain is used to patterns and it relates to probability because like in the video it showed that you flip a coin and it's heads, tails, heads then tails comes at least 4 more times then because of that our brain assumes that oh, since tails came more times then heads that means that the next flip of the coin will also show tails but that's not always' going to be true because both sides of the coins are equal and so both sides have equal ( 50-50 chance) chance of appearing.
DeleteIt is true that in everything we do, we look for a way to make things faster or easier. You may not know it, but it is true. Our Brain likes to function the way it does. It's always about luck though because you can't always rely on luck, most of the time you have to use common sense Eg. What is 1+1 ?
DeleteA- 67
B- 76566
C- 2
D- 1
Your obviously not going to guess that answer if you already know it. (Well I hope not) You have to use sense and if you really don't know the answer then take an EDUCATED guess.
LIMITS
ReplyDeletewe have to learn about limits and when you do too much or do too less the problem of doing too less can be that you don't have back up and might be proved wrong and the problem with too much is that you can say something wrong and get proved wrong so people have to learn limits
Deletea think that the last video is very true and that if you wait for a 100% guarantee for cell phones to be proven safe, technology will stop evolving because everyone is just waiting for it to be proven safe.
Deleteand i also agree with the theories.
you cant just make up a theory out of thin air. it takes years of research, and you have to prove it with logic, and it has to be reasonable.
I wasn't so aware of how important taking risks can be, there maybe some dangers to mobile phones and radiation causing cancer but if we all just stopped using mobile phones, technology would stay the same. Basically we shouldn't limit ourselves, taking risks can help you grow in a way that your mind can explore new things, and fear will get out of your way. Because nothing is 100% safe, so we have to take risks every single day without knowing it, but sometimes when there are serious warnings about the newest technology that seem so amazing at first to everyone, but as i say alot, there is always a negative. We just have to live with it.
DeleteLimits are not ALWAYS good. In the case of limiting yourself of lets say phones, computers, food and things like that then it is good, but if you limit yourself of Having fun outside of exercising then that's bad.
DeleteLimits are things that you can't be sure of. In the video, its shows how if you wait to long, the result will not end up as good or not even good as you thought it should be.
ReplyDeleteI think that this video is saying that waiting for more information is useful but in that time it may close doors and prevent others from doing any thing .
ReplyDeletei agree with rohan, the doors may close before you can make anything and you might regret it because that one thing, could have lead to new inventions or better technology
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI think this videos means that when you are looking for more information and ware just waiting, you lose the chance to do something else.We have to chose what we want carefully so that we don't lose any opportunitys
Deletealso that not everything is 100% correct or ever will be
Delete@prabhjot there are stuff that are 100% right or true
Deletemaybe on a test but for safety, no
Delete
