The News

 Hello Team,

This is article that highlights the issue of wealth and inequality in our society.  Think about the pyramid model of society and how these new stats only further entrench this reality.

  4. Oh! So that's why people in Toronto were in downtown because they were protesting that their income is too little than richer people, because they have more income, like $100,000 and we not as rich people only get $10,000 a year. There is a $90,000 difference! That's why people in Toronto were protesting because the income difference is so much. Occupy Toronto.

  5. I've Seen the Article and I've heard of the Occupy Movement in Wall Street and In Toronto I haven't heard of it being anywhere else but i didn't know why they were doing it till now and from what I've seen in the video Stanley posted and i don't understand why they would remove the protesters if there so peaceful since there fighting back Rob Ford is getting irritated and its not reasonable everyone has a Freedom of speech and that's what they're doing not being violent and back to the article its not fair how they're Yearly income is 10x more than the poor and its not fair because they're jobs may be More Important than the "Poor" people jobs but without the "poor" the rich wouldn't be able too do there jobs

    ReplyDelete
  6. i agree with what this article that richest people are getting richer and poorest people are getting more poor therefore, the goverment should collect more money from the rich people in taxes and share it with the people who need it the most.
maybe the goverment can get more taxes from rich people for poor.
where before rich people were used to get 8 times more pay than poor people now they get 10 times more money than poor people which mean that rich people are getting richer and poor are getting poorer.
i think that countries should make sure that their people get more good education for their better future just like Korea, Mexico and Iceland.

  7. Get rid of these names and have different pictures, and lets not trivialize death and destruction...its in disgusting poor taste

    ReplyDelete
  8. @ Anonymous T6 what do you mean by without the "poor" the rich wouldn't be able to do there jobs?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Well,I've actually seen people live in tents and it look's horrible and im shocked its happening iin Canada.I saw so many people living on streets, tents and on the roads in the Pakistan. They were hurt and it wasn't a pleasant view.

    ReplyDelete
  10. i agree with this article that rich people should pay more taxes because this article relates with the article that was called super people.in super people it talked about how rich people can buy oppertunities which will get them a better job with pay.when on the other hand poor people can't buy oppertunities don't get better job.even if poor people do get a job it is going to be a job with less pay.which get us to the fact thatan average rich people earn ten time more pay then an average poor person.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I agree with this article and Sana i agree with what you said. Rich people should pay more taxes and rich people just bye opportunities were poor people have to work really really hard for it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. This article is true, because the difference from the poor and rich just grows on. Like it used to be 80000 and now its 100000 from the poor is still 10000.Even still 8000 is a big difference too.

@Sana, I agree people with more money have a lot more advantages than the poor and they should share more.

    ReplyDelete
  13. @tehreem i think poor people should pay taxes too because they need to contribute to the country."it is not what the country can do for you but its what you can do for the country

    ReplyDelete
  14. @Sana, great connection, but the poor actually need the money but its also fair to keep it fair but its not fair when the rich have more money and paying taxes isnt a issue when it could affect someone with lower money alot more.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I've been hearing about the occupied movement on the news for the last month or so, its happening all over the world, the main cities of some countries like Canada, United states, Germany, Greece, ect.
Protestors have been trying to make a change in this world, but what the media tries to hide is why they're protesting, and they show police officers arresting some protestors (ive heard the protests were non-violent), in my opinion i think its a way to make people like us to stay away from the movement, the people in charge in this world want to stay in charge, stay rich.
The article is highly realistic, in our society there is a huge gap between rich and poor and as youth, a part of our society we need to be aware of things like this.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Our society might not be fair at all, but think about it, if we were all in the rich people's shoes, we would want to stay where we are, we wouldn't want to give all our money to the poor because we would have to be smart with our money. Mr.Cheney has talked about this, probably 90% of our class would want to be rich and when we become rich, we would all want to give to the poor, but very little will do so. To be a Great Person, you cant be a good person.
But looking at the other direction, today's society has gotten worse and worse from the beginning of 1900's, and if we dont do anything we will let the rich get richer and i think thats what the protesters stand for.

    ReplyDelete
  17. @Deadmau5,but why isnt the government supposed to help and give money to those in needs??In the article ,it does mention that the government had stopped doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I do think that the government should charge the rich more taxes so the poor can have some money. The rich are stated “RICH” because they have money tons of money but what about the poor how much more money does the rich need they are livening in big houses driving the best car having amazing jobs their kids are going to fancy school’s what else do they need ? What about all of that extra money they have? They just use it for useless things like eating out! Why not give it to the less fortunate? What is this season about? It’s about giving loving and caring even thought you don’t know who they are. Not trying to be rude to anyone but I find a lot of rich people are selfish, rich are already rich why do they need to be more rich? They poor should become rich or close to rich. In my opinion I find the government stupid first they say this will be the best country taxes will be low and everything they say all these nice things but what really happens we all know. They don’t try at all this country is dropping down big time! There are a bigger population of poor then rich. The rich might not think it’s fair that they have to pay more tax then the poor but they never seen or thought about that the poor have the richest Canadians earn 10 times more than the poorest. So while they get millions of dollars the others are only getting thousands of dollars there’s a big difference. Some of the poor might not even be able to afford Christmas this year, they can’t afford to buy a Christmas tree or ornaments or they can’t buy presents for their kids or family. What is Christmas about? It’s about having the best time of the year it’s about relaxing and remembering what god has given to us. If the government wants money they can have it but they won’t have much because there are more poor than rich so the poor can’t afford and then they are just going to make the rich poor All I am trying to say is it’s not fair I thought people talk about being fair having a multi-cultural world not being racist and being treated equally but what is really happening we aren’t being fair here we are getting judged by poor and rich all they want is money...money it’s all about money and I don’t think the government is will to change it...people aren’t going and sleeping on their beds but camping outside for their right! They want to be heard just the way the rich are being heard!! Fight for your right people say but sometimes there is just no point!

    ReplyDelete
  19. @:P: i agree with you a way to get a good job is to have good education so either they can provide education for the poor or make taxes go higher for the rich. I think people should have different amount of tax like if you make a lot of money the you tax is higher and if you get paid less u give low tax they should even the money out so no one is left out. We all want to enjoy the holidays so lets make it possible.

    ReplyDelete
  20. @DeadMau5: you make a point but they shouldn't be greedy like they need to now they are more than just them in this world. That shows how much they really care ...they dont at all that show's how much respect they have for others

    ReplyDelete
  21. @blossom: Oh yea! the super people article rich buy where as poor work for it they make their way up but the rich buy which i find a waste they just throw their money like its nothing in their world .The rich should study and make their way up instead of just pushing people and getting in the front of the line just like that budding the people that got their first .Do the rich even know if they are smart enough to do what they paid for? well that doesn't matter because they will just buy for them to pass then they will buy a spot for a job. That's what they will do all their life BUY....

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Sana: totally agreed! Buying is like rich peoples life sometimes i think is that all they learned to do? Are they ever aware about things around them do they every pay attention to anyone else except for them?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think the real question is why is the gap increasing? Like, what have we done in the past years for these actions to grow or get worse? I believe that the government should not charge additional taxed to the rich. The main focus should be where is the money going and why it isn't it helping. If we don't get that figured out, we would just repeat the problem with more tax money added to the cycle. Some wealthy people actually worked for their success. Adding more tax money from wealthier people would be useless if we don't find out how the money is being distributed. It would just be feeding the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think people are protesting as it said in the article because BEFORE the government used to be fair and made sure that the rich shared money with the poor but now they don't care at all but this is not happening as much as it did before and the money is not going to the people who need it the most.

    ReplyDelete
  25. i finally get why there was an occupy movement because poor people do not get much money however it said that rich are suppose to give to the poor but that is defenitly not happening and it should but nowadays people are to greedy to give a little of their wealthiness away.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @neha
i think it is a good idea that there are taxes because if the rich do not want to give away money we will have to take it from them and give it to the poor.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @donna
do you think that it will be okay if rich people wold give alittle of there money because either way they will give the same amount of money to taxes or to poor people.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @janat
sometimes it were there fault this is happening because some poor people just chose the wrong path from the beggining.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Maybe the problem isn't the amount of money being taxed to the wealthier, but how that money is being distributed and used.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Buttercup,,Yes but it depends on everyone's jobs and what they gain from it.

@Wario,True but its not the same with everyone

    ReplyDelete
  31. So do you think people who make and earn lots of money should have to give it back to everyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Mrcheney, No, but if they are earned a lot more then needed than they could give some to donation or organisations that help others in need -which is everywhere. Also sometimes people work a lot to have the money they do but sometimes its inherited.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Princess Daisy yes it is like the super people article. You are also right that the poor have to work hard if they want to succeed and the rich buy there way through life and you are right sometimes it can be a waste. Neha, sometimes i wonder the same question. Do the rich even know if they are smart enough to do what they paid for?

@Princess Daisy not all rich people are the same not all of them just buy there lives. But, i do think that there is a majority of people who might be like that but not all o.0.

I think that they should spend their money wisely before it goes to waste not just spending it on something you don't need and will never use because that's just wasting money o.0. I think that maybe the rich should do something good with their money like donate to charity and like food banks and like they should like donate to shelters because it will help and make a big impact on the people with absolutely nothing. This will not only help these people but it will make you happy because you used your money for something useful and smart, and the people you helped out will be very great full and you will be happy. It would bring a smile to their faces and to yours :) :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. I will be on later.
    last post of the day.

    ~Blossom out~

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was watching this all on the news at the time of the protest I even heard that one police officer was pepper spraying people for his own joy I don't know why first people would be using their level in the "pyramid" to torture lower leveled people in the "pyramid" that makes one hit to the knee of the poor then comes this I don't know why this is happening I think it could be because they want a "Revolution" to get rid of the poor have the rich stand higher this is what I think this is helping the idea of Afrocentric schools because the diversity of the difference of the rich to the poor, and maybe less educated and the more educated they might be doing this to support the idea of "diversity equals happiness" I hate this idea of diversity that makes everything think about racism changes everything, you know what diversity actually changes everybody I wish people finally learn that sometimes one thing changes everything.

    ReplyDelete
  36. @wario:exactly if the poor were able to go through having less money the rich need to go through having to pay higher taxes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @Mr.Cheney: not clearly give back all the money but even it out so there is not a higher population of poor people because this country is suppose to be a free and equal country we want there to be no poor we want everyone to live a life where they can have things.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Blossom: im not really sure when you become wealthy you don’t really need to worry about nothing. You have enough money so you can buy whatever you want there is no need to worry if you run out, you and your family will have the perfect life which makes them forget about other things more than money but also not everyone is like that if once you lived a poor life then you know what the rest really go through then you care from being poor to becoming rich you understand the struggles there are. Like an example would be Justin Bieber he wasn’t rich he came from living in his grandparents house, his mom struggled and know look at him he’s one of the richest teen’s but that doesn’t mean he forgot about his hometown he didn’t forget about the people struggling because that was once him.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think the poor people shouldn't pay same money as the rich for taxes but they take more from rich because they are making 10 times then the poor today. But I don't get why the rich only made eight times more but the poor still made the same money as today.

    ReplyDelete
  40. But it depends if the poor and rich work just as hard and same time they shouldn't collect more money from the rich they should collect the same amount of taxes from both but if the poor works harder then the rich they should not collect a lot of taxes from poor.

    ReplyDelete
  41. @Vinay: good question i don't get that either, why did it increase from 8 times to 10times more....
There are rich and poor people how will the poor people pay their taxes ...the poor will become more poor. Once knocked off your feet its hard to get back up. It sounds simple but not really. In my opinion i don't think the government would give them education because education cost a lot i think they would just change the amount of tax given. I think it would be good if there was education for the poor so they can try their best and make something out of themselves but again its really hard

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Princess Daisy maybe because the rich people back in the days only made 8 and now they have the good experience so they make more but don't get why the poor stayed the same

    ReplyDelete
  43. i think that the article is very interesting, and the difference between the poor and rich is surprisingly big.

the idea of taxing the rich and not the poor isnt exactly "fair" and isnt a good idea.
that is inequality, and its not a way that this problem should be dealt with.
the main reason for the big amount of money is education.
this also ties in with the super people article.
the richer people make their resumes better by going around the world, and applying for big universities and colleges. the richer get accepted into big schools, which makes them even richer, while the poor's money keeps going down.
that is the reason why the difference keeps getting bigger and bigger.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think that what they are doing is not fair.
They should be giving more money to the people who have to beg for money. They are widening the gap when it should be the opposite.if this did happen, then every body would be equal. This is like how we were learning about fitness.mrcheney said that the gap widens as years past , just like now. They use to barely give that much money to the rich. Since some people worked really hard for the money,it should be 75,000 for the rich, and 30,000 to the poor.i think they should change up what they are doing with their money.and sometimes they are rig because of luck. Like two people trying for a really good Job and one making it.the other would have a
    Higher chance of being poor.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Mr.Cheney When is the next practice for Vollyball?

    ReplyDelete
  46. @Vinay: exactly why should some move up and the others stay where they were ? Why should rich become more rich and poor stay poor , shouldn't it be rich stay rich and poor become no longer poor?

    ReplyDelete
  47. @DubstepLover: The next volleyball practice is Monday afterschool (Monday Dec.19TH AFTERSCHOOL)

    ReplyDelete
  48. @Luigi: i agree with you (Y) as years pass by the differnce goes higher so what would you say in the next 10 years would it be 29 times the difference? or do you think someone will take a stand and change this take a stand the same way Gandhi and Martin Luther King did ?

    ReplyDelete
  49. @neha
Maybe, someone could take a stand.but if someone does, the government probably wouldn't care. I say this because every usual bill that gets passed around never was accepted.even if it had a good meaning, like this one time I remember when a guy sent around a bill for violent games. Like putting on how old you have to be to play.butthegovernment accepted on the fifth time the
Man went.and that was all 2005-2006. And someone else did it for violent movies. He said that kids should not be starring, and he is still trying.

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Princess Daisy they should but the government doesn't know that's why he might charge everyone taxes.Or the rich know ways to get more rich.

    ReplyDelete
  51. @Luigi:oh wow! well wonder if someone tries really hard wonder if people make a big deal about it do you think that the government will then pass it?

    ReplyDelete
  52. @Vinay:But they are the government ! shouldn't they know and understand things like this?

    ReplyDelete
  53. @vinay
What do you mean they know ways of getting rich?
Also don't you get rich by a good job?

    ReplyDelete
  54. @neha
Sometimes the government can be really greedy

    ReplyDelete
  55. @Luigi yes you get rich but if you have lots of years of experience too

    ReplyDelete
  56. @ Princess Daisy they can't check every ones incomes and taxes they charge so they charge everyone the same taxes

    ReplyDelete
  57. @ Luigi I think that they don't decide to give the people the money for their needs is because probably they are going to give the people a form for monthly donations that will degrade them which isn't much fair if you think about it because degrading someone for being rich is not right upgrading someone because another's rich is also wrong. The way it is right now of how they have TV commercials for the less unfortunate and if it's a celebrity or somebody that's very rich wouldn't take the risk for that and they would take about the 15% of the money that comes in and give the rest for the donations to the less fortunate because of the risk that could happen to them.

So I don't think that they should give it for their own sake they should just have the auctions like a adopt a child auction and etc.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I've heard about the occupy movement but never understood why they were protesting but now i do.I agree with this article i feel that because of their wealth and their status, can get them any where and more emphasis is being placed on the rich, while the poor has nothing they are unable to succeed in business because they are mostly in debt, they cannot obtain anything in society so therefore they stay bottom and keep going down, while the rich keep going up hence the gap.

    ReplyDelete
  59. @PrincessDaisy it increased because before the government used to make sure that the rich taxes was more and were later shared to the poor

    ReplyDelete
  60. Look up Capitalism

do you think under this system that true financial equality can exist ?

    ReplyDelete
  61. I do agree with this article, that the rich people are getting poorer, nut you have to realize how that might happen. I know some people that like to gamble, we all know how that can turnout. One of my best friends is now a foster child because her parents were drinking addicts. Because of them, I can't talk to her anymore. I think should be careful with what there doing because sooner or later, things will change. The reason why rich people do that is they have a thing in there mind going on saying 'you have out more money, don't be afraid to use it.' And they listen to that. All of us should get our heads strait.

    ReplyDelete
  62. @Mr.Cheney
No, I think it would be nice just to help at least a couple out, but if you do just give everything out to everyone, you can't hold up your own family. Not a lot of people will help. Sometimes, it looks like we don't want to help, but most of the time, we did buy giving in Cans for the food drive or giving money to some foundation of some sort that help people that live on the street.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The article highlights the disappearance of the middle class.

    ReplyDelete
  64. @MrCheney boys basketball practice is tomorrow lunch right ?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yes thats what i was about to say what if your not rich and poor what happens about taxes

    ReplyDelete
  66. @olga
The article is not about rich getting poor, it's rich getting richer. And poor getting poorer

    ReplyDelete
  67. I think it is a really tough position for the middle class. They are trying hard to get up there but there are factors like Taxes that are creating it to be more difficult. Maybe that's why the gap has grown- people simply give up or stop trying too hard

    ReplyDelete
  68. @nicole
Don't you think it is harder for the poor?

    ReplyDelete
  69. I think that if the government is givin more money, there should be more things like the can food drive. So that everyone can contribute to help the poor.not just relying on one person to be donating.

    ReplyDelete
  70. @tushar
Why would they do a auction for a child? That is basically selling a child for your own sake

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think they shoul only tax the people who can afford it. Because there are some family's who can barely buy food because of taxes

    ReplyDelete
  72. @Luigi, But that wont be fair because tax is supposed to be for the whole country and its what helps us benefit for our free health and stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yes, of course, But also keep in mind that most of the middle class was once poor, they just built themselves up. Yes, the government should give more oppourtunities for the poor to do so, and to make it easier.

    ReplyDelete
  74. @ mrchney
i dont think that true financial equality can exist because it mostly depends on buisness and your family background and the money that your family has, and education.
just like in the super people article.

    @ buttercup
do you think that giving up is the main reason people are in middle class and getting poorer?
i think that is a good explaination,
but i think that there always will be a middle class. maybe the middle class will get richer, or poorer.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think you will discover tht wealth doesn't change thy often...poor stay poor, the middle class remain in the middle, and the rich keep getting richer.

And as the rich gather more and more wealth it deprives it from the rest

    ReplyDelete
  76. I don't think it's about giving up...I think there are many hidden obstacles

    ReplyDelete
  77. Consider the fact that the rich overall don't want to share wealth, they want to get richer, and to get richer means taking money from others.

The same way poor or middle class wants to get wealthier...it's just way harder for them to do it...just like the super people article

    ReplyDelete
  78. @ mr cheney
is it true that this relates to the super people article?

and im guessing that most political people are the richer people, mostly becuase of taxes. is that true?

    ReplyDelete
  79. @Wornnerd,I dont think that the taxes go to the richer people because don't taxes go to the government..??And the richer probational get richer by owning properties and putting them on rent or owning their own companies to gain more.

    ReplyDelete
  80. @ janat
    thats what i meant.
politicians get the money from taxes. ( ie. the government)

    ReplyDelete
  81. @ mr cheney
when i click the homework link, it wont take me to the page.

    ReplyDelete
  82. @ Janat
the government may give money to those at "the very bottom of the pyramid" but that money will be a penny to them, and the money that goes to them will just be enough for their survival.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Sometimes the tool bar links to other blogspot pages don't work

    ReplyDelete
  84. yeah, the homework bar doesnt work, the gym page doesnt work, but the holiday party works...

    ReplyDelete
  85. Janat, Yes, True I think thats usually the case with the wealthy, they either got lucky with their business or they were born into it.

Here's something pretty interesting, does anyone know about United states health insurance problem? In Canada we have health cards for a reason, so that we dont have to pay for each time we go to the doctor's office. In United states the poor and middle class usually cant afford the high prices for health care, there were many sad stories about different people who needed surgery and they simply couldnt afford it, and most had to suffer with health problems because of that.

    ReplyDelete
  86. @malav
Same with me but I can't access anything

    ReplyDelete
  87. @Malav @Mr. Cheney, yes I agree. It could also be that times are getting harder and more expensive. This also applies to our "Rags to Riches" discussion and how that doesn't happen often. After all, that is how the rich stay rich.

    ReplyDelete

do you think that you can be lucky in your business i think that you can just be good in your business. also if it was luck they would not have done hard work so are you saying that rich people do not work hard.

    ReplyDelete
  91. @aqib
you can also be lucky in business you might get an amazing job that about 1 out of 100 people get in to

    ReplyDelete
  92. as tecnology and development grows, rich people are getting more profit and getting richer mean while the poor people are getting poor then before. i agree with this article. when tecnology grows thgings get more expencive, that the reson poor people cant afford the things they need for a living.

    ReplyDelete
  93. @tulsi
yes and that also puts people out of business. or harder to find a job

    ReplyDelete
  94. this reminds me of the time when Mr.Cheney says that the gap of marks from the lowest and the highest, increase as time goes by this is just like the wealthy vs poor. they always get bigger and earn bigger as the years go by

    ReplyDelete
  95. @Tulsi and Prabhjot exactly things are getting expensive and it's getting harder for the poor to find jobs and earn for a living and also they are not able to access/afford what they need for a living and that's why they are getting poorer and the rich are getting richer.

    ReplyDelete

but its all american, but i think in canada it isnt much different.
the pre-tax went up more than double!
    9.1 to 18.8.
thats a lot, and i think that maybe that everyone may have to tax even more than just 13%

  98. @Olga And I think that is sad because well they have to suffer health problems just because they are poor and can't afford getting a surgery done or so and things are getting expensive these days and it's making the rich richer than before and depriving everything from the poor; earthing they ever had.

  99. The poor have to work hard if they want to succeed and the rich buy there way through life and keep getting richer which makes the poor stay poor/get even more poor.

@abeeshan oh ya I remember when we had that talk in class when mr cheney said that if the rich are earning big money the will continue to get bigger and earn more and the poor will keep going down.

  100. @Neha yes before the government used to be fair and made sure that the money was divided amongst the poor and that the rich shared but sometimes the government can be greedy and not care about the poor also like you said the money is not going towards the people who need it the most.

what makes you think that for the rich that was "fair"?
the rich had to give away their money.
i dont think that people would really like to give money away.
and so, i think either way, it will be unfair.

  102. @malav i didn't mean that for the rich it was fair I said that the government tried to be fair to the "poor" and give them money so that they can lead a happy life and that's what I tried to say.

  103. @ sonali
but where are they gonna get the money from?
by taxing the rich more than usual.

how do you think the rich feel about this?
do you think they like the idea of giveing their money?

  106. @ word nerd
that's true, why would the rich give their money to the poor just to be equal and fair. I don't think we that would happen in the real world as we would imagine it in our fantasy island.
