The Cheat - The End
The story had a slightly abrupt and surprising finish. Jake turned himself in for the protection of all the students that were prepared to boycott for Sarah.
Do you think this was a good solution to the problem?
Did you like the authors style to finish the book this way?
Comparing Rebound and The Cheat what was the more realistic and enjoyable story?

I think this was a good solution to the problem.instead of 20-100 students getting suspended, only one did. this also shows he is honest, because so many people would let it go but he did the right thing,he gave himself in
ReplyDeletei did like the authors way to end the book.it was a ending nobody thought of.it was also unexpected.it wasnt those endings where the book ends when he goes to the office and give himself in.
i think that they are both great books.but i would say rebound was better. it was alot more entertaining. the cheat was mostly all around sarah and not telling on jake, if there was a little more to it, it would have been better.in rebound, it kept me entertained all the time and i always looked forward to reading it.but the only thing in the cheat that was atually entertaining was when rob ran away
true it was good that jake will give himself up and let everyone else free
Deletedo you think that it was honesty or it was to impress sarah and save everyone
how do you think jake's mom and dad felt about him giving cheat notes and being suspended.
Deletewhat do you think happened to rob what do you think is rob's dad going to do or what do you think rob is going to do to his dad.
Deletewhich book do you think is more realistic
Deletewhat else do you think can be added to the book the cheat .
Deletei think rebound was more realistic.everything about rebound was very realistic for me.but in the cheat, there was things that almost noone would do
Deleteexplain things that almost noone would do
Deletecall the principle
Deletegoing to the phonebook and calling every kid in middle school
not telling on someone they dont know
true noone would do that what would you do if you were jake
Deletealso why do you think 20 to 100 people stayed at home to fight for sarah .
Deletewhat do you think would happen if jake did not give himself in
Deletedoes mr.chen know that katie started all this.
Deletehow do you think sarah's feels about her mom at the end of the book.
Deletewhat do you think katie's mom reaction was to katie sticking up for her friend and not going to school.
Deletewhy do you think no boys that liked sarah beated up jake for saving sarah
Deletewhat were your your reaction to the ending of the cheat were your reaction a bit similar to your reaction of the ending of rebound
DeleteI don't think Chen knows Katie started this but as Jake said he wasn't surprised to hear that there was going to be a boycott.
DeleteMaybe not call everybody, but isn't it believable that students would Facebook everybody to protest.
Deletewell, that wouldent happen because of fear of punishment
Deleteye they were.i think that the cheat and rebound had a fast ending and sort of just left us hanging off a cliff
Delete~this is Prabhjot
mr.chen probably doesnt know. jake blackmailed him to not suspending the kids, so i dont think mr.chen carses because jake kept his side of the deal
Deletethey didnt beat him up because he saved her
Deletetheyboycotted because they were good friends with her, or liked her. because noone would ramdomly boycott
Deletekaties mom didnt know she skipped for sarah
Deletepersonally i think the ending was to short and they never finished the book fully they have not gone back to what happened to rob and his dad they also never talked about what happened to sarah and katie both fighting for their what has happened. However the solution was alright about jake taking all the blame it was just the book was not finished
ReplyDeletethe ending was not finished and i am upset with the ending .however it made me think what will happen next and that made me always thinking of the book so the style was alright.
both books were realistic one was about cheating and one was about stereo types and discrimination however i have experienced more cheating then wheelchairs so that is why the cheat is more realistic
Rebound was more enjoyable because it was funnier and better and longer than the cheat overall both books were great.
so you think racism and stereotypes are less common than cheating?
Deleteit is less common for me meaning i have seen more cheating then racism and stereotypes
Deleteeveryone see the world from their own perspective i say i see more racisim and stereotypes i haven't heard of anyone cheating in my life
Deletethe ending was quick
DeleteSo,what do you think might happen next?
Deleteyou have never seen cheating? It happens in our classroom often. At least 7 times during are many quizzes in class.
Deletebut exclusion, name calling, bullying happens every day. and it is not like we have a test a day
Deletei dont think the ending was quick.its just that they left us to hang
Deletei didn't really get to the ending of of the book.but jake turning himself in is much better then 50-100 people getting suspended. but i have to say sarah was did stick with her quote"my principle is not to tell my principal"
ReplyDeleterebound was way better than the cheat because in the cheat it was confusing to tell who was talking at which time.
That was actually easy because he says the names and by the middle of the book, you know how everyone talks.Like Ruby uses like after every other word.Sarah makes poems out of her situations.Rob talks in short sentences.Dan talks as if hes SO tough.Katie thinks a lot.
Deletesometimes i couldn't tell which character mr.cheney said the name of but i'm sure when i'm reading to myself i would find it easier.
DeleteI agree with both, always easier to follow when you read yourself but Janat has nailed the different styles of each character.
Deletei totally agree with Sana i too think that Rebound was much better than The cheat as it was very confusing to follow on each on their perspectives and rebound was just straight on using one character which helped allot in visualization but it is pretty hard to visualize with the cheat. As well i think that Rebound had a more interesting story that allot of kids can connect to. (when moving schools)
ReplyDeletei have to agree rebound was way easier to visualize.i like cheat to because it had a writing style that i never seen before in a book.
DeleteRebound was easier to visualize but we could have only sown empathy because we didn't know how David felt about everything or what was going through his mind.
Deletei agree
Deleterebound was easier to visualize, although i think everyone would have related or think more about the cheat because the problem was a bit more "common".
Not for many of us haha. But i saw rebound had a more connection to all of us as we soon to will be going to a new school and it was more realistic and had many problems that made it more exciting while the cheat just stuck to one big problem.
Deletewell, rebound did have a connection to everyone, but the cheat connections are less
DeleteI think the solution was alright because its was surprising and it was what no one expected from Jake.It solved the issue. Also it was a lot better then having the boycott going on which would have caused a lot of chaos and we wont even know what would happened. Also it gave Jake a lot of attention-he got a girlfriend(Ashley) and as he said he got so many hellos and waves which he never did before.
ReplyDeleteI do like the authors way of writing because its different perceptiveness , we get a different view of everyone and the ending was good because it was nothing we expected. It adds more twists and makes the book a lot more interesting.
i expected jake to surrender
Deletewhy?
DeleteHe did consider it but was always too afraid to.
i thought the guilt would make him give up like how katie had to tell rob's parents where rob was.
DeleteOh, i didn't because he didn't seem like he would and also it was last-minute.He just had the phone and was willing and guilty enough to do it.
DeleteYes, Jake came out of no where to solve the dilemma, he found some courage, but maybe the distant of being on the phone rather then face to face made it easier for him.
Delete@ janat
Deleteif jake was not to tell, how do you think this book would end, and how the problem would or wouldnt have been solved?
ps.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
Malav isnt this the 10th or so time youve siad happy birthday to her
DeleteAnd i think it wouldve ended up Mr.chen getting anoid with all the kids treating her fairly or just as cruel and Sarah possibly wouldve gave in to the pressure
But It is my first. Happy Birthday Janat. I hope it is perfect.
Delete@ thamil
Deleteyes it is like my 10th time saying happy birthday.
i like saying that, and its because of something me and sana did yesterday.
i thought that in the end,
mr chen would give up his search for the culprit and just move on.
do you think any teacher would just blow it over?
Deletethat isnt realistic,if you did something bad, then the principle looking for you, would he leave it after a couple days?
DeleteYes i do think this was a very good solution to this problem as just other people getting suspended for not really "creating" this problem. This way he knows what will happen the next time he decides to cheat or participate in any wrongdoings, as this can relate to allot of school experience like lying, stealing, plagiarism or anything else he will know the consequence.
ReplyDeleteNo i don't think i like th authors style of finishing this book as this kind of left a blank in a story its like coming to school without a pencil you still get to enjoy school but your missing an important part in school just as the book is finishing.
Although the ending did bring some thought into my mind about what would happen after. So in conclusion the authors style of finishing the book was not too bad.
What do you think the moral of the story was?
DeleteYea like If jake didnt get in trouble it would be stupid to me i think if he didnt talk about the tests and giving it to her no problem what so ever but since he did that hes thinking to his self that its Sarahs fault that her attractiveness cause him to do so but like its a kid thats so small and doesnt want to get beat up cause he thinks Sarahs lover will beat him up to impress "Typical" Malav thing to do
DeleteThe moral could be that people are never what they seem. The author shows this through Sarah. She seems so perfect and in control. But in the end she is a terrified little girl that hides behind a mask she creates.
Delete@Mr.Cheney,Shelby Yes that is one way of looking at the moral of the story. But i really think that what i learned was that the moral of the story is temptation. As they were all led to temptation as well to add on to that they were trying to take the "easy" way out which is not always the greatest solution.
DeleteI think the solution to the problem was very unexpected but a good way to solve it, because now all their names are clear, and that what all of them wanted, but i would have never have thought that he would have called Mr.Chen to tell him he truth about the cheating
ReplyDeleteI kind of predicted that someone was going to tell the truth, but wasn't sure who it would be, so for me the ending was kind of obvious and predictable, but I think the ending would be more interesting if the boycott did happen
I think Rebound was the most enjoyably and realistic, because Rebound had a deeper moral and the situation in it were things that teens go through everyday such as being different from the people around. It was enjoyable because it was easier to understand whereas in The Cheat it was coming from more than one characters thoughts
I agree when we first read the book i actually thought he was real sneaky because like ur blackmailing him for blackmailing someone else its like a chain reaction and wait till we read We All Fall Down thats a realistic book its real emotional
Delete@MasterChief, True but in the book it took a really long time for the book to go on because i think it went hourly and it just kept getting intenser.
DeleteSame like We All Fall Down Its suspenseful even thought you sorta know whats gonna happen but its still Dramatic and thats the cool thing about visualization i imagine whats gonna happen and its like a mini movie in my mind that helps adn seeing other movies i dont know how they felt mustve been bad but i can sorta see
DeleteI agree Rebound was deeper, The Cheat is kind of fluffy, we never get deep into the Rob situation, and We All Fall Down is intense!
Deletegreat!
Deletei cant wait for we all fall down.
does small steps also have a deeper meaning?
i think the only big situation was rob's and i agree, that wasnt very detailed, and it ended quickly.
mr cheney, what about the vote for the next book
Deletewell i cant say that i was surprised of the ending because i already read the book and heard the ending last year but when we read it last year at first i was surprised because its jake i wouldve expected him not caring since no one knows him and his popularity wouldnt change but then after i realised he couldnt take it anymore so its something that he thought he needed to do
ReplyDelete@MasterChief which book did u enjoyed more?
DeleteYeah, I didn't expect Jake would just hand himself in like that I thought he would just leave and let Sarah take the blame. He just Maned Up .
DeleteStraight up stanley this guy manned up which ended up being good in his favor and Bubbles We all fall down
DeleteWas it a bit late to "Man Up"- speaking of stereotypes!
DeleteThamil I didn't know you appreciated We All Fall Down So Much!
Its Just an amazing story and to me i think Eric Walters Put alot of feelings into it because hes already an amazing author and he showed us how most the people felt or wouldve felt and How much people care for others when it comes to staying alive or dieing
DeleteIm getting excited to teach this book!
Deletewhat is we all fall down about?
Deletei think it was a good solution because it was the right thing for jake to do because he started it he ended it and no one will get hurt from his actions. i hate it when books dont finish with a eneding the realy didnt end. so the answer would be no. for me i would like rebound more because it had more meaning and more story to it then the cheat.
ReplyDeleteI agree , i hate that thing abut endings, it always makes the reader want to know more but to make it more "interesting" the authors don't really write it.
DeleteI also agree i was not happy with ending, i think the author could have done better, but maybe she did that for a reason for us to be able to predict what could happen
DeleteIt is a intentional writers tool, it keeps you thinking about the book after you have finished reading. It you fill in all the holes then the book becomes forgettable.
Deletebut then we want to know what happens too
Delete@cookie monster that's the whole point the author wants to leave you thinking about the book but I also wanted to know what would happen at the end of the book maybe the author should have extended it a bit and gave us some hints but maybe that's why Mr.Cheney wants us to write the final chapter.
DeleteIt was a good solution to the story very realistic and similar to what I would have done.
ReplyDeleteI like the way the author ended it. Very realistic because I think people would put themselves on the line to save others from taking their blame.
I would say Rebound was more realistic and Enjoyable because there are a lot more problems (Issues) in Rebound and I was more interested in it. But, The Cheat is a very good book as well because how the author expanded the problem between the 6 characters was awesome!

DeleteWhat didn't you like about this book?
DeleteThere wasn't enough problems (issues) you get what I mean ?
Deletei agree with stanley.
Deleteit wasnt that many problems, and the ones that were there meant a lot,( mostly the family abuse one), but the rest werent as great.
The Cheat was character driven, and certainly way less issues then rebound.
Deleteyes it was,
Deleteand you can relate to the characters and the problem was something common between middle school, but thats all.
true
Deletethis book was very good book,
ReplyDeleteand the solution was really good.
it was just as i predicted it.
jake would turn himself in.
i found the part where jake became popular interesting.
but i doubt it would really happen in real life.
i liked the author's style of writing.
ive read books with similar styles(having all the characters talk 1 by 1).
it made things more intense because when the character gets to an important part, the author switches characters to make you predict, and make you keep on reading to find out more.
i think that rebound was more enjoyable because it was more interesting for me, and it had a bigger meaning.
but, in the cheat, i think the characters were more realistic, but the situations in rebound were better.
did you predict the boycott too?
Deletei thought the ending style was good,
ReplyDeletebut it wasnt very original.
like almost all books, it had a happy ending and all was good.
i think thats used too much.
it should have ended a bit different to make it stand out.
Yes the happy ending for Jake was highly romanticized.
Deleteyes it was.
Deletei would doubt that would really happen.
why do you think the ending wasnt original?almost noone would have thought of it
DeleteI personally liked Rebound better because it was more easier to understand. The cheat was good too but it was confusing from times. I couldn't focus sometimes. But at the end They both had a good ending. Rebound is more realistic. I say this because in Cheat who would actually protest by not going to school? Your parents will still force you. But the fact one person gets the answer and eventually many others do, is a big factor. On the other hand, Rebound was something too. A guy being a new student's guide is also realistic. At the end of Rebound David does not get his legs but that is huge when comparing in reality. Miracles are always very rare. So I like how he didn't get his legs back. I mean that, I like how there was no miracle like in real life. But there was a happy ending. They both had a simplistic story. But cheat is more simplistic. It happens a lot though. So many can relate to The Cheat.
ReplyDeleteI think that the cheat ending was a god solution. Because at the end everyone took their punishment and dealt with it and were happy. Also learned their lesson, I hope. Yes, I like the way the author finished the book. I think that the author had a real life situation and turned into a book. And it was unexpected.
I asked myself if there was a series for these books, then I would follow The Cheat because there are more chances to relate to her book. Rebound, umhh I never met anyone in my life with a wheel chair. I don't have the experience. But I like the adventures by Eric Walters because I have read other books like Triple Threat.
@ Mr.Cheney/Everyone
why on the cover of cheat is there only one girl and a guy wont it be 3 girls and 3 guys?
And yeah what happened to Rob so the author just ended him off never cheating learning his lesson like that?
I agree, Rebound was more easier to understand than The Cheat and Rebound was something that not a lot of people could relate to.
DeleteI think Rebound was harder to understand because they used Symbolism and it was alot more deeper.
Delete3 guys and 2 girls.
DeleteWell I think that the author did end the story in a way that everyone wants to know what happened. Me personally, I liked Rebound better because it has more of a story format. I don't really like how people talk in a book for example diary format. I rather have a book written by what he person sees and he/she is explaining it or from a distance.
ReplyDeleteYes it was a very good way to end off the book becuase I like when they end off the book when evreything gets better and you just want to read more but the book is done so you can't.
ReplyDeletedont you think that a good ending is overused?i dont like it wheni read 5 books and every book has the same type of ending
Deleterebound was the more realistic book it showed what mostly happens around the world with people like in wheel chairs but cheating happens in the world too but not that often and I think that Rebound is more of a interesting book to read and learned a lot from it not much from the cheat so I think rebound is a better book.
ReplyDeletei agree, rebound wasmore enjoyable
DeleteI think that the cheat was more about Jake than sarah, Jake was the one who saved sarah and manned up to the problem. and sarah is symbolic to us kids in middle school, sometimes when we face big problems we just break down, and sometimes those problems will be solved and sometimes they wont. In Rebound, David was symbolic for us middle school kids who are considered "outsiders" and "different."
ReplyDeletesarah did not break down.it sorrt of was all jake. he was the one who gave sarah the test and hes the one who took the blame for it
DeleteI think the ending was pretty clever. I didn't expect it. The writing style of the author wasn't my favourite. I would have liked to hear from Sarah, Katie and Rob. Sarah was the main character and Rob and Katie are very interesting.
ReplyDeleteRebound would be more realistic and enjoyable when it comes to me. Rebound highlighted many hidden struggles that lots of us go through. It was very complex. I find I enjoyed Rebound more because I could relate to it more because of the wheelchair Symbol. I thought it also had a more interesting plot/ story line.
i agree, the ending was really unexpected. dont think anyone would have ever thought of this
DeleteI think that Jake turning himself in was a good idea because in any type of way he would of gotten in trouble. The truth was bound to come out.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like the way the author finshed the book because we didn't hear Dan, Katie, Sarah and Ruby. If we heard what they had to say then it could of been more interesting.
Rebound was a good story and also Cheat. My perspective is that both are realistic and equal because in both story, this does happen in real life. People do suffer and in other words, have problems.
If I had to choose which one is more enjoyable, it would be Cheat because the way it was read sounded more like the author wrote this as a real life thing.
i agree, even if jake did no tell, then mr chen would have still found out.some how.just a little later
Deleteso you think boycotting the school or not telling onsomeone you barely know is realistic?
Delete@Cookie: Yes because people still do it these days. I bet you people in our school don't "Snitch" but not boycott. Other schools might do that.
Delete
