Monday Morning - The Return to School
Sarah is set to return to school on Monday morning. She hopes Mr. Chen doesn't bother to follow up or ideally he simply forgets. If not she has to snitch on Jake in order to return to class!
Will Chen forget?

If not, then what happens next?
Would you hold out? or give up the student to return to class?
no i do not think that Chen will forget because this is a very serious case and no one would forget in two days that three of their student cheated and has a punishment.
ReplyDeletei think that Sarah will give up Jake because what her father said she has her own key to freedom and that is true because if she just tells Chen Jake gave the answers then she will not be punished and Sarah does not even know this kid he just gave the answers so i would not think of any reason to not tell on some next person.
of course i would tell on this student because i do not know him and also it is the right thing to do because even Sarah dad told Sarah to tell on this random kid so i think it is the right thing to do and if Sarah does tell on him then maybe she will save everyone else.
Agreed we would give up the student. So much to lose for somebody you don't even know.

ReplyDeleteNo, I think Chen will not forget this issue. It's pretty big to forget in 2 days. He would recall their punishments as well. I'm pretty sure that this would of been the only thing Chen would of been thinking about.
ReplyDeleteI think that Sarah would gave up Jake at the end. The only reason Sarah was holding up Chen that Friday was because she didn't make up her decision. So since she listened to her dad, she must of got motivated and made her decision. And the father said she can take her own actions, she has that freedom. And she can tell on Jake cause really Jake is the one who gave the answers to her and she doesn't even know the kid. I think there is nothing wrong with that right?
If I were Sarah.... I would tell on Jake . First of all, well, you don't even know the kid to be hated in the first place. Second of all, Sarah's or in this case, my dad said thaat I can tell on him .
It's not all the time we do what our parents say. Especially at the teenage years. WE don't know if she has something for Jake or not, but you don't just rat out a kid. You have a reputation to protect. Nobody likes it when they're trying to have a decent conversation with their peers to be called snitch. He also did not directly command her to tell, like You said she was given the choice. But the kid who gave her mid-terms for no reason (that she knows of) Won't she feel sympathy for the kid?

DeleteWill Chen forget- There is no guaranteeing that he will remember but, there is more of a chance of him remembering than there is a chance of him not remembering. Remember when Dan's mom came in and gave him that stern talking to I think he'll remember that. And then when Sarah's mom came in. Then when Rob's parents didn't pick up the phone even looking at his office could trigger the thought of cheating. Especially since he has their tests.
ReplyDeleteWill Sarah rat Jake out- Really I think she might. The way Katie talks and the way Sarah talk are very different. So if Katie thinks that ratting people out is a horrible snitch act. Maybe Sarah thinks of anything that can save her will help her (in this situation). You don't always think like your friends. But, then again sometimes if you've chosen good friends then you share the same morals and values as they. So I really have no idea what Sarah is gonna do but I do think my conscience is telling me that she isn't gonna tell on him. As Mrs Ang puts it for every positive effect there is a negative. And the positive here is that Sarah gets to get away with not snitching. The negative is that Chen will again pick on her not pick on her, but force her to. She won't give a name, fine I'll find him, your suspended until I find out who or you tell me. Right now. So in this situation Chen's not forgetting.

DeleteWhat if Mr Chen does remember what happens then? Does the guilty party (Jake, Dan, Rob, and Sarah) get suspended further maybe even expelled? Because mid-term does count for a high percentage of your grade. Will Mr Chen consider it that much of an offence? What lengths do you think Mr Chen is willing to go to, to find the main culprit for the crime. And relate this to the real world how many crimes are left and how many are investigated? How many people who commit crimes actually end up in jail?

I mean if you've cheated once you've done it before without getting caught but this is the first time Sarah has been caught. even though it is sarah's first time cheating she cheated on a mid term so i think this is serious because if it was a quiz i would just give a lunch time detention but this is a mid term.

I meant being equal with all the other students who got in trouble, I meant the same thing as fair. I think Mr. Chen would know about the cheating times before because it seems like he has a lot of experience.
Deletebeing equal and fair are not always the same thing. If you have 2 students that are caught stealing but 1 of them has been caught for the 7th time. There punishment is likely more intense. This is fair but it's not equal.

DeleteI understand the difference now. No, I don't think she shares the same level of guilt as the others. She shared the answers. I think Katie's innocent because she didn't use them and Jake isn't as guilty as Sarah because he delivered them, not cheated. Rob and Dan fall in between.

No, I don't think Mr. Chen will forget about all this. Wouldn't he still be expecting the essay on Monday? He made a big deal out of it and he seemed very serious.
ReplyDeleteI think that Sarah might give Jake up. She was very strong in the beginning but I don't know how much she will hold out. Maybe if she it was Katie, not Jake because Sarah would hold out but she doesn't really know Jake so they're is not really much motivation.
I think it definetly depends on the person and the action to say if I would snitch. If it was one of my close friends, I probably would hold out. But if the action was severe I might tell.
and what if its a fellow grade 8 but not a friend? Do you give them up?

Right now is ratting out Jake doing the right thing in both perspectives of the characters? Here's the thing he loses privileges but, like Mr Cheney says does he gain a sense of understanding to what cheating on a test is? If Mr Chen left him rather than punishing him does he learn his lesson internally? Like what Mr Cheney said today inspiration comes from within. And it's why there is a difference between Academic and Applied the people that are in Academic are realize that the only way they can look they're resume's look better is by going through this and thus we could say that they understand the system. I can relate this back to the previous statement So do you think Jake understands the "system" in this situation?

Believing in order to achieve. We've discussed this haven't we? Just because you believe doesn't necessarily mean you will achieve as there is obstacles in the way of everything. And sometimes the "system" it's self will turn in order to shut you down. The talk of education is highly referred to when you give us lectures. I want to be something big. A doctor for instance goes through this: 3 years of undergraduate school or 4 for some meaning you have to graduate from university with a bachelors degree. You need a grade point average of a 3.3 out of 4. (B+). And if you did want to stand out an average of 80% would be minimum. Once you do become a resident to learn after med school. 50-90 hours a week. After that 50-70 when established. Your work is upgraded constantly like a teachers. You might stop somewhere in between because you realize the pressure it takes to become one. So I don't really agree with that statement.

Obviously, I think Jake doesn't want Sarah to rat him out. I don't really think any of us would want to in Jake's position. I think Jake made a mistake giving Sarah the answers because she didn't even know Sarah that much.

Advil is an anti inflammatory and prevents swelling
as well you can keep them wrapped in a tensor bandage...it supports blood flow to problem areas. I sometimes wear them around my knees to prevent them from getting stiff during the school day

DeleteI think that there is a high chance that Mr.Chen will remember once he sees Sarah, Sarah is probably just hoping for the best or maybe assuming that she will get away with it. However there is a chance that Mr.chen forgets, being a principal and all, too many things on his mind. I don't think Sarah will change her perspective on snitching and just not tell Mr.chen about Jake.

But, I have this unusual thought. What if Jake turns himself in? Remember when we started reading the book Jake said he wanted to go back and turn himself in and save the damsel in distress. I commented that Jake thought himself as principled and he did seem principled. What do you think of that thought? Agree, Disagree? This was at the time where the guilty party was in the office.
That thought isnt unusual, i agree. Jake did seem like the person who would do the right thing, and cant take all the guilt thats inside him, also he likes sarah and probably would want to save her, especially since she didnt tell on him.

DeleteI don't think that Chen will forget because he is one of those people that will mess around with the kids so they get pushed to their limits and in my experience of being a student that is what about all of them do in class or outside of class. This way even if he forgets he will have a moment when thinking "what's thats boys name that was caught teaching on the mid term oh yes it was that quadro. Then so if they get into any anymore trouble than already they will have to maybe do extra work on exams etc.If I was in his shoes I wouldnt forget the look on their faces when they were called up to the office because thinking about it he must have a sinister side to him when it come to this.
ReplyDeleteI do think Sarah will give jake up because she has never heard of him which means if she snitches nobody will notice when it happens plus she doesn't want to give up getting out of the situation than not telling on someone that is " invisible".
Afterwards, I think Katie will come in to her situation to encourage her into snitching and make it much easier for her assuming that they can help each other most times.Then Katie will be with jake as a suspect and be questioned they aren't friends anymore and a crisis happens.
The last question has a pro and con of it first helps you be free but do it and you get made fun of.If not ,parents get dissappointed and You get into deeper situations so either one depending on what the situation could be.
This post thought me plan something anything that might just work may not go the way you wanted it to.
I like how everybody has that idea not snitching is better I disagree because there are some things you need to take advantage of during life. Just like mr cheney said during his inspiring speech that whatever help you can get from friends diplomas tale them and use them to your advantage. Sometimes when you let things go like this it grows into much bigger things and they get harder and harder afterwards the guilt of no telling will eat you from the inside as I knew from experience.so they should take that time and snitch so they don't go into things bigger than being taunted for a day.

If it were me i would tell because i know i have done something wrong and i wouldn't care about snitching if its serious then i would for sure tell but otherwise i wouldn't only if it didn't really matter.

ReplyDeletei do not think that sarah give jake up.she might do it later if the principle expellls her if she doesnt, and so far she hasnt said a thing,she might hold off for a while.
if i was her i would definitly tell.it wouldent make sense not to tell on someone you barely knew. but it sort of is sarahs fault because jake said she asked for the answers
the ending of the book is coming, and sarah looks like she wont say anything and so
ReplyDeletei think that jake will confess about the test answers because of guilt.
i think that sarah may also be waiting for jake to confess.
