Narrative Writing and Remembrance Day

Narrative writing and Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is coming and we are also going to begin writing extensive narrative text.  This task will get us ready to study and prepare for both.

Watch the Videos below to refresh and build your knowledge of Canada’s War experience:

Now take the picture given below and construct the narrative text for the scene.

Recall Narrative text, should include setting, characters, rising action and climax, and morals.  You will not need to flush out all the details in this task because your narrative will be a small portion of an obviously bigger story.  But do consider these elements while writing out your response.

Your writing can be 1st or 3rd person, should include dialogue, as well as should begin just prior to the picture and continue just past the events of the picture.  It will take a considerable amount of time to write out the detailed passage, so you should write it in word and copy and paste into the blog.  When copying your text highlight the typing in a different colour where the picture specifically takes place.

Part 2

Take the image and your narrative text and put it in a word document.

Use - Times font, size 10, 1.5 spacing

Rebound 21 - In a Word

We have done this activity before but as we read more we learn more.  Lets do some exploration of David and of ourselves.  The theme of complexity is one that will be reinforced.

List 10 words to describe David's personailty.

then

List 10 words to describe your personality.

look at your lists.  What conclusions can you make?

Rebound 20

David and Sean are clearly good, if not best, friends, willing to lie, willing to trust, willing to compete, willing to work together.

What has Sean learned about himself with this new friendship?  Thus what have you learned about people who are "different"?

Is it okay for Sean to lie to Scott and his parents?  Does their great friendship justify certain questionable behaviours?

Here is a clip of wheelchair basketball, may help you visualize as we read the story.

Connections

Share your connections between the story(article on Teens Living in Hell) and BHJMS from your "reading challenging material" graphic organizer.

Remeber your connections can and should be beyond the scope of the article.   The article specifically talks about teens and the sexual orientation and this may not be something you have encountered at school, but a connection that centers on the theme of students being excluded or bullied for being "different" is indeed a logical connection.  Even in real world text, the stories can be symbolic for other examples.

Post your connections and comment on 2(minimum) others.  Remember to respond to people whop comment on your post.
