Rebound 13 - Roller Rink

We finished reading and discussing the latest conflict for Sean.  Scott has invited Sean to go out to the roller rink and hang out with the "old crew" and by chance Caroline, Lisa, and Christina may also be there.

Sean decided it "best" not to tell David about the outing.

1. Do you agree or disagree with his choice? Why?

2. Can you make a connection from this event to a moment at BHJMS or connection to a similar conflict in another book you are reading?

Take the time to answer all questions in your response.  As well, read other posts and ask questions and challenge opinions.

  2. i would disagree with seans decision
because david had shared his secrets, and told sean things trusting him.
and sean needs to do the same.
atleast tell david that sean will be going to the roller rink with scott nick and gavin.
im sure that david will be upset, but will also be happy that sean told him.

either way, david will find out.
    caroline might also tell.
she may say something like: " david see you at the roller rink."
and david wont know what she was saying then caroline will tell david about their plans about friday night.

i can relate about this with harry potter( one of the most awesome things out there)
in almost all the books, harry would sneek off somewhere without telling his friends.
for example, in the last book,
voldemort told harry to meet him in the forest and then no one will get killed except him.
harry put on his invisibility cloak and went off without telling anyone, thinking it is best that no one would know.

    this is like sean.
him and harry thought the same thing.
keeping something a secret would help him from getting into a mess, but it just creates a bigger one.

  3. i also think that david will show up at the roller rink with his mom or dad.
then meets sean as if it were a complete "accident".

  4. Well organized and detailed response Malav. I'm sure many will follow your lead.

    thanks.

will we be reading rebound on tuesday?
i am eager to see if my prediction is right.

  6. As a friend he should tell David, that he is going rollerblading with Scott, Nick and Gavin. He could say that he wants to avoid conflict and I'm think David would accept. He's smart as Mr. Cheney stated, and if Sean extends and says that he wants to avoid conflict, David would be even more convinced. Being a friend means telling the truth and being tied together by bond.It literally means,a person attached to another by feeling , affection, and personal regard. A "friend" is there in times of need. A friend sticks up for you when you are being pushed down. Of course that's the ideal friend, that's the friend everyone dreams about nowadays. But, Sean is still Davids' friend, therefor he should tell him the truth and be on with it.

I can make a connection to another book I'm reading. Called the Buccaneers, there's a man named Horn. He boards a ship called the Dragon, in the middle of the sea alone, they asked him how he lived alone, he said he drank fishes' water. Another man named Abbey thinks hes a Jonah, a murderer. He destroys every ship he steps on. And he keeps a piece of each ship. They argue a lot. And poor Jon is stuck in the middle being both their friends. During a gun war with another ship, Abbey being the gunman appoints Jon to steer and Horn to man the other guns, but Jon is stuck in the middle thinking that they're probably going to kill each other down there.

  7. @ Malav, yes lies often cause more and more problems. But if this was always true don't you think people would stop telling lies? It sounds like you truly enjoy Harry Potter. You made a great connection.

    ReplyDelete
  8. @ Tabish, This sounds like a great book and yes the connection is a good one. Stuck between two friends and unsure what to do.

Are Sean and David so close that they should have each other back all the time? If they are just casual friends then is Sean really obligated to go to such lengths to protect David?

    ReplyDelete
  9. @ mr cheney
    you have a good point.
but during the times of lying, i dont think that people
pay a lot of attention about what will happen.
they just want to get out of the situation.

and i dont think sean and david are that close, but
david telling sean about what had happen to his legs, and telling him something like that
makes me think more about it,
but it doesnt make them best friends forever.
so i dont think sean has obligated so much.

    ReplyDelete
  10. @ tabish
    i agree.
    sean should still tell david,
but david should understand that sean has other friends, and should
get a chance to be around them.

    ReplyDelete
  11. @malav and Cheney
I think Sean is willing to go to such lengths because basically, he just wants to hang with his "friends" not with his other friend David. He wants to unwind and take a break from school he dosen't want problems so hell tell David that hes going to the rink, and EXPECT him not to come. And no they arent that close because if they were close we wouldve known what happend to his legs by now

    ReplyDelete
  12. @ tabish
    True.
But we already found out about his legs.
David said it, and while working with Sean, he said it to him.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I am not sure if you were there.
    It was during the dinner.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Which Dinner, I missed the pizza lunch too?

    ReplyDelete
  15. The dinner where David came over
To work on their project about cell regeneration.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Nobody missed the Pizza Lunch...I have a plan, but we as a class need to move forward before I share.

As well Tabish you may have missed the latest read Aloud

    ReplyDelete
  17. urg . the first time i wrote this response it didnt work

I dont agree with Seans choice because as a good freind he should have told and not go behind Davids back. Also i think if Sean told David then it would make david feel bad because it was something he couldnt do.And it would make him feel bad. Also as Malav i think David would have found out anyway because of caroline , lisa and christina.
I dont think Sean and David are that close yet because if they were Sean wouldnt have made the descisoin to go without telling .But i do think that in the end of the book David an Sean would be really close.
The connection i can make is with my sisters book called Evelev. In that book there is a group of 3 freinds. The main character and one of the other girls dopnt go along but the 3 have known eachother since they were small. But the 2 other girls start having sleepovers and everything without her and she finds out from their sister and when she confronts them, the group is over its her all alone then. But i dont think that would be the end with david and sean and nick.I think it would be Sean and David as best freinds after.

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ janat
    nice prediction at the end.
but i dont think sean will leave his friends
so that he will only have david.
im sure he will still be friends with scott nick and gavin, but not that close anymore.
or it may be that sean will stop hanging out with david.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Do you think Sean would like the three to be buddies?

Scott, Sean, and David all friends together?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree with Sean's decision because I feel it would be kind of awkward if Sean ask him because what David is going to say, he might say he cant be able to do it because he clearly cant walk. In addition to that why would you have two people that seem to not like each other being around each other

    ReplyDelete
  21. @TheSauceBoss how do we know that David and Sean are actually friends

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Malav but David told Sean to ask him any questions about himself

    ReplyDelete
  23. @ Shelby, can you make a connection to anything else you have read?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well actually I can infer that they are friends, inviting someone random over to dinner doesn't seem the bit of creepy to you?, and the amount of time they're spending together is creating a friendship, they may not know that they are close, but the reader does. He chooses to follow Davids' lead during the dance, and dances with a grade 7 girl. You wouldn't listen to any of your friends if they asked, or dared you to dance with someone with the opposite gender, let alone a lower grader.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @mr Cheney
I think Sean wot like that at all.
David already doesn't get along with scott very well
Considering that David asked Sean if Scott is always stupid.
    And Scott,
By the way he is reacting about Sean and David hanging out,
    He doesn't like that.
Especially since David is "taking" his friend away from him.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i disagree with Sean decision of not telling David that he is going to the roller rink even though he can not skate Sean could at least tell David where he is going so David won't feel suspicious of where Sean is.

also, he can be truthful that he did not want him to go because like what Tabish said he wants to avoid David talking to Scott nick or Gavin.

this also makes me think is Sean David's real friend because if Sean was Davids friend i do not think Sean would go with Scott nick and Gavin to the Rollerblade rink because sean would be smart and think "if i do accept to go to the roller blade rink would this affect david". However' he just did a no brainer and said yes he can go.

Yes i can make a connection to this with BHJMS so one day i was playing 2 on 2 basketball and when my team mate saw his friends calling him he ditched me.

    ReplyDelete
  27. @shelby but can't sean just tell david where he is going just so david won't feel bad.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @tabish
yes you are right they are friends but right now sean is not being a good frind for not telling david that he is going to the rink.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @jan101
i don not think that David would scream at Sean for just talking and telling him about the roller rink he does not have to ask David to go with David.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Really? Sean should tell David, and everything will be okay. The solution is that simple.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Mr Cheney-The solution is never that simple, espicially in books.I have read many books and the problem never had a simple soloution because part of what makes it a good book is the fact that the problem catches the readers attention.
In real life it may be that simple but it all depends on the choice that sean makes, and the way david reacts to it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Mr Cheney-I like the new adition to the blog the different sections for different subjects.Would have been helpful last year =)

    ReplyDelete
  33. @ Stephanie, is life really that simple?

Yes, I'm trying to make the blog better then last year.

and I will do the same next year also!

    ReplyDelete
  34. As Stephanie was saying, yes the solution isn't that simple. You have to explain and maybe David won't agree to the fact that he's going to a rink without him. But if David is smart and doesn't want to start a conflict he'll walk away. David seems irritated by Scott's stupidity so maybe he won't come.

    ReplyDelete
  35. @ Tabish, David doesn't like conflict?

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Mr Cheney-life is never simple there always conflicts but with a problem comes a solution.
I know the kind of person david is and I know what happends but no ones life is perfect its just unrelistic even for a book.

@Tabish-but as you herd in the book david tends to challange himself like when he wheels into the middle of the road.So would it be a possiablity that he would go just to start a fight with Scott?

    ReplyDelete
  37. This reminds me of a book named Pretty Little Liars are being stalked by someone who goes by A who we still don't know is. They are always having to lie to their friends and family just to obey some of his orders and if they don't he will reveal all of their secrets hence the name pretty little liars..

    ReplyDelete
  38. @am17 And then what? David not Sean's mother he doesn't have to tell him everything that he does.

    ReplyDelete
  39. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  40. @TheSauceBoss true, but Sean also invited him over so they can do their project so it was kind of school related

    ReplyDelete
  41. He's changing very slowly, and its not a matter of whether he likes conflict or not because I'm pretty sure no one wants conflict, not even the angriest man in the world wants to start conflict with other people, maybe on the first day of school he was just annoyed by Sean's words. He doesn't seem to be the angry type anymore he's letting up, adapting to the changes around him.

    ReplyDelete
  42. @ Stephanie, agreed life is not simple, and same with Sean and David, and friends.

@ Shelby, so are the girls in your book doing the right thing, the best thing, or simply scared when the choose to lie?

    ReplyDelete
  43. @Malav , yes i agree but im not saying that Sean will leave all hid freinds for David but i was saying i thinks he'd end up with David as an closer freind because ther're usally always together now because SEan is Davids host.

@Mr Cheney , i think Sean would like him, Scott and David as a group because he did say that hanging out with scott was alot of fun and i dont think david would have minded either

@Stephanie i agree , life isnt that simple and problem and conflicts always come in so everyone has to find their own solution and sometimes the solution isnt always that easy and can take time.

@Am17, thats true but dont you think it would hurt David when Sean tells him about the rollar rink because its somthing he cant do.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think he wont tell david because its going to cause problems like David saying oh i want to be treated like a normal person not like im handicaped and start going into rage mode and Seans going to say i didnt know and While hes saying it Davids going to cut him off and You didnt know what if can go skating and there going to have problems and what not after

    ReplyDelete
  45. @mr.cheney it wont be fixed because i think that David will always have a counter argument if you told him or not if you told him he'll say why'd you tell me does it look like i can skate But if he didnt tell him and David found out David will say oh you think im handicaped the wheel chairs just an obstacle i can do what ever u can do and theres alot of things David can say

    ReplyDelete
  46. @mr.cheney the girls are doing the best thing to help keep their family and friends safe because A can easily kill one of them or someone close to them, so i think keeping the secret and doing what he says is a good thing

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don’t agree with Sean’s choice. I don’t agree because there is another option more than not telling David .That other option is where Sean can tell David that Scott invited him to the roller rink and he decided that he wants to go. And so he wants to invite him(David) but Scott is going to be there its up to David if he wants to come or not. It’s Davids decision.

I haven't read a book that has this conflict but i did watch this show DC Cupcakes. There are two sisters that own the shop. One of their employees has a sister working also. He hates his sister. The two sisters get a big order and need both brother and sister to work together to get this order done. But they don't know what to do because they both will fight and it will be a horrible day. The brother is the main and best cupcake maker out of all the employees and the sister is the best fondant designer. They need there cupcakes to taste great and also have a nice design so they think about if they should bring both of them into the room or just invite one of them and the other won't come...

    ReplyDelete
  48. @the sauce boss:Sean can say he didn't want to cause conflict but don't you think David will feel offended...don't you think David would feel that Sean is trying to say he is not capable of being with an enemy. If it were me i would feel that like David might say what are you trying to say to me ?? There are various reasons that why he might feel offended

    ReplyDelete
  49. @Jan101: yes we all now he shouldn't do that as a true friend but i still haven't figured out if Sean and David think they are true friends. But if it were you would u do it to someone that u don't find is your TRUE FRIEND?.... like you weren't here but in the past we have talked about the real world and the island we are all taught don't do this cause bla bla bla bla and if someone would ask us a question we would say what is actually in the "island for ex. we all should respect each other where as do we all respect one another??? not really so thats what my point is we are told not to be rude behind someones back...but some of us do

    ReplyDelete
  50. @Shelby: it wouldn't hurt just to ask David cause a roller rink is skating with roller blades david has a wheel chair so its kinda of the same thing he can roll around in the rink unless there is a rule....Like Sean can say"David i am going to the skating rink with Scott ,Nick and Gavin and the 3 girls might also come its up to you if u want to come ..its all up to you."

    ReplyDelete
  51. @Emile The Great Genious: but would it hurt if Sean told David? He might cause a problem but wouldnt u think it would be better if he told its quite simple all you do it go up to David and tell instead of not talking or being with david ignoring him cause he might spill it out

    ReplyDelete
  52. @Neha as i said before it seems like David doesn't like Scott so why have them being together

    ReplyDelete
  53. David indeed doesn't seem to like Scott, but wouldn't you say those two are very similar in personalities?

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Neha
yes , i agree david and sean might be be true freinds yet and maybe thats why sean chose not to tell david but i think they will be by the end of the book and yes its is true that otther people talk behiond others back even if it isnt nice.
Also Neha i agree he can tell David he is going but dont you think the reason he isnt telling David is because it would hurt him because its somthin he cant do but i agree that can work too

@Shelby , yes that is true, that david doesnt like scott and i think if they were together it would create some problems,So it is best if they arent togther but i think maybe sean would lkike them as a group

    ReplyDelete
  55. @ mr Cheney
    They are definitely similar in
    Personalities.

    An example is that
Both act all tough and show people who's boss.
Scott tells is this on the first day of school.
" we are the people in charge"
Scott thinks he has the will power and freedom
    To go around bullying people.

David also does this on the first day of school with Sean
    On the ramp.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Scott tells us this on the first day of school**
and everyone is afraid of Scott.
Naturally since he is older, and in grade 8.

    ReplyDelete
  57. @ Mr.Cheney: they might have the same personality but it doesn't mean they necessarily like each other maybe Scott thinks that David is trying to be tougher than him and vise verse. That's why they might not like each other they both are in grade 8 and Scott wants to be the "coolest" out of all and he wants to RULE grade 8. Basically my point is just cause 2 people have the same personality doesn't mean they will fit in together quite good like everyone .Yes you study hard and all that but you don't want someone to take that away from you you don't want that person to go above you.Because you wont get that "special attention" anymore and so that's why you might not want to be friends with them...

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Jan101: Yes it might hurt him but look on the other side if he tells him that hes going with Scott,Nick and Gavin and the 3 girls will be there too and if he wants to come he can. If you think about it its better than keeping a lie because if i were to do that to someone i would ignore that person cause i don't want to spill it out

    ReplyDelete
  59. @Malav: exactly they both have the same personalities in trying to act tough but when you think about it was David really trying to be tough or act as if he were gonna run the school?? For sure Scott is but do u think David is cause after posting mine i think about it and it made me realize David got angry because Sean wouldn't move out of the way it would get to my nerves to cause he cant get down any other way but it doesn't necessarily mean he was trying act as if he is going to run the school and be tough

    ReplyDelete
  60. @Shelby: as i said to Jan101 it wouldn't hurt if he just told David instead of hiding it from him.Which one will make more sense they might not be good together but if David thinks he can handle a day without getting into a fight with Scott hes more than welcome to come... And if anything does happen Sean can say i asked u u said yes i told you he was gonna be here.....and you came cause you said u can handle it ....

    ReplyDelete
  61. @am17:exactly at least he wouldn't feel that where is Sean and get mad at Sean when and if he figures out...like people say its better to be safe then sorry so why not be safe and tell David then have David figure out himself or by someone and if David does figure out Sean will be sorry....

    ReplyDelete
  62. @ neha
i think getting angry at sean,
then trying make fun of him,
    show him whos boss,
    and then trying to fight
    sounds tough to me.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I dont really think that its the best thing to do because now that Sean and David are becoming close freinds they are spending alot more time together and their doing alot of things together so i think that he should have told David that Scott invited him there to "hang out" the reason that Sean didnt tell David because Scott and David dont get along very well.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I disagree with Sean's choice, it would be better if he told David, but then again everyone would have choose to make that choice, instintively.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I disagree with his choice because usually lies/secrets (hiding something) just lead to a bigger problem. He could have just told david that he wants to hang out with his "old crew" but then thats where being afraid of david comes in.
He doesn't want to tell david anything about the roller rink because he's afraid david might get angry and think that he would rather hang out with " the other ones" than david and that would cause another fight.

This releates to a book I read a long time ago ( but forgot the name. ) In that book what happened was that there was this boy who had 2 really good friends and they were really close, but then there was this great opportunity for him to go to this place that he always wanted to go to and he was allowed to bring one person his age along with an adult.
He didn't know who to choose! One of his friends was angry because the boy only hung out with his other close friend and the other one was who he brang along everywhere and now HE HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THEM!
He decieded to bring the one who was upset with him to make him feel like he wasn't lonely but then he would have to disappoint his other good friend, so he decieded to keep it a secret and not tell him about it but it turned out he was also there and the boy was shocked. This made everything worse his friend told him that he would have prefered the boy telling him the truth rather then lying.
This is just like when david was also at the roller rink and sean was shocked by seeing david there

    ReplyDelete
  66. @ donna
yes if it was me in sean's place,
i wouldve done the same thing.
not only because of david's wheelchair, but also because he isnt that close, it is not neccisary to tell him everything.

    ReplyDelete
  67. @ sonali
so you think sean cares if he isnt around david for 1 day?
i think it would be like a "day off".
it is not a bad thing, but it is change for once.
and yes, lying does create a bigger problem, but this wasnt really lying was it?
sean didnt say anything to david.
he didnt lie about anything, but it still created a problem.

    ReplyDelete
  68. @ malav hmmmmm no that i think of it, it actually wasn't a lie but i meant if he didn't tell david anything it would create a bigger problem rather than just keeping the outing thing to himself

    ReplyDelete
  69. yes well, i think david understands
why sean didnt want to tell him.
so david just saved himself and sean from a big fight, and about treating him differently.

    ReplyDelete
  70. those are some good thoughts now i am starting to think from two different sides

    thx malav :P

    ReplyDelete
  71. yes well,
    everyone has their own oppinion,
and after people think on the other side, you can argue both ways,
and it helps you think about the problem more,
and to me, it helps me also understand it better.

    ReplyDelete
  72. @ malav it makes so much more sense when you can argue from both sides it's all starts to be understandable

    ReplyDelete
  73. yes.
it is like you are thinking from someone elses
    perspective.

    ReplyDelete
  74. exactly i like it it helps me understand better like u said earlier it's the same for me

    ReplyDelete
  75. i think it may be the same for almost everyone.

    ReplyDelete
