I think this story is amazing, because miracles like this dont usually happen. And to crash into a cyclist to get cured, its just amazing.Also doctors said she would die because of the crash, but hear she is 11 years later, able to walk because of crashing to a cyclist.

I say this because he wasnt for sure that light as a wheelchair,which puts his life in danger. and if he goes home and david called, davids gonna snap and he would feel so dumb. Like that couldve been a cycle, or glass, but he wasnt sure. But i think it had a possibility of being davids chair, he might have went down, or get a miracle cure like the athlete did. and he threw his wheel chair away like he said he would
I think Sean did do the right thing by going down the cliff because it could be David down there who got tried of being angry and the only choice was to die just like what happened to the gay teen.But it can also be a piece of glass or metal it can also be David old wheelchair that he doesn't really use that he could of thrown off. The story of the girl who got her legs back after an accident that's a miracle but a miracle that could happen she didn't break or crush anything but David did that makes a big difference between them so it's most likely that David would be able to walk again.

ReplyDeleteYes, i think Sean did do the right thing by going down the cliff because I think he had to let himself know that whatever that was shimmering in the sun wasn't the wheelchair.He had to know that David was safe because he knew he was feeling something was wrong and out of place.I'm not sure if its the wheel chair because it could be a piece of metal or glass \ reflecting from the sun and if David threw the wheel chair then where could David be....???
ReplyDeleteThe story about Monique van der Vorst is very touching and strong because she was a athlete even when she was disabled and she fought. i think it's a miracle because after her being in accidents so often and getting hurt.After 11 years she got to walk again.Its very touching.
@Bubbles, yes but miracles don't always come thats why its so special when they do but as Monique van der Vorst said she doesnt want to put up false hope in kids that they can get their legs back.
ReplyDeleteI think Sean did the right thing of going down the cliff because wonder if David was angry over something and he decided this was enough and so he was thinking of committing suicide, but I'm pretty sure David won't give up that easily.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to Sean seeing David's broken wheelchair or not I think Sean did see it broken because David was really confident that one day he will walk again and I also believe that it will happen. So I'm pretty sure Sean did see David's broken wheelchair behind the bushes and he must have been shocked that David is now able to walk again.
Wow after reading this article I was touched and I saw Monique Van Der Vorst suddenly get up from her chair and miracles like this don't often happen, but I do believe in miracles because i believe that nothing is impossible ( in the word impossible there's a I-M-Possible :) )
@Janat She doesn't want to give kids " false hopes" that they will definitely get their legs back because if she does give them that false hope then they will hope of something that isn't, all their lives and they won't accept and appreciate these moments, and be able to live life to the fullest ( this is only if they will never get their legs back. ) ( and I connected this to the quote that we recently worked on. )

ReplyDelete@ Janat it could be that Sean knew that something wasn't right so he just had to check if David was safe. Also maybe the light reflecting from the sun that Sean saw maybe was the broken pieces of the wheelchair.
@ Bubbles ( eden????) Yes maybe David was angry and upset with what ever happened in his life and decided that he couldn't take it anymore just like how the gay teens couldn't take being bullied anymore so they decided to commit suicide.
ReplyDeleteI think David did the right thing going down that cliff. It was definetly a possability and a very serious one. I don't think that it is David's wheelchair Sean thought he saw. Like David said, it would be suicide going down that cliff. So if David did go down that cliff, he would most likely loose control and fall into the water below. Sean saw that glimmer of light a little farther than halfway, meaning David was able to stop. I don't think David would have had that chance to stop, so therefore that isn't the wheelchair.
ReplyDeleteThe article was very interesting. The thought of David regaining his legs seems unrealistic, but here is a happening just like it. What surprised me the most was that it was actually injury that cured her legs (collision).

ReplyDeleteMaybe thats why David does baffling things like crossing anywhere in a street, and going down stairs/escalators. It sounds crazy but maybe he wants or doesn't care if he gets hurt. Maybe another accident will result in a miracle, like the athlete in the article. Or maybe he feels that he is already trapped in a wheelchair and just doen't really care about his physical state that much anymore.

ReplyDeleteYes, Sean did do the right thing.Everyone needs friends and everyone values those special friends who are always there when you need them the most. Each of us has a special friend and in this case it would be Sean.This is because Sean was willing to risk missing his dance with the girl he likes and even risking his life, this is going the extra mile we all say that we would but in a real a situation most of us would not do this.This just shows us how much Sean has grown to like David.
No, I do not think that is Davids wheelchair ,maybe it is just like a pop can or some junk as again he did see dirt bikers cut the fence so it might have been them throwing junk around there.

Amazing! I never knew such thing were possible but as we quote "Anything is possible" A very lucky person she is after 11 years, been in three accidents and she didn't die.
ReplyDeleteYes, Sean did the right thing because he went looking for a good friend and anything for a friend well that's my case. Taking time to look for David and miss a bit of the dance is what real friends do for each other.
I think Sean saw David because as David said he would throw his chair down the hill after his recovery but I think he realized that " If you're hoping for something that won't, you will never accept the loss of something "
I think David thought it through and he is going too continue with life
@Greenranger, David said that he would throw the chair AFTER his recovery. so do you think he threw the chair? and then where do you think David is?

ReplyDelete@GreenRanger I don't think Sean saw David because like Janat said, he was going to throw the chair down after the recovery.I don't think he made the recovery because David's mom did not mention anything out of the norm. The only other option was that he went as far as going down with that wheelchair. I also don't think its that because the wheelchair would have went over the cliff. Or he could have saw some trash.

@buttercup good point David's mom didn't mention anything and also when Sean called David and his mom picked up at that point she didn't say anything then either or she might have wanted David to tell Sean himself !? also I don't think he would have saw some trash because I don't think trash would reflect the sunlight. I don't think David will give up on life that easily, he's really strong and he's confident that he will get his legs back and I'm sure he will.

@prabjot if I was David and in his situation I would do anything because I would be tried of living a kind of a life the only choice was to suicide.

@ the main idea of mircales can be David he changed he throw his old wheelchair for a symbol that he has to deal with his life and how it is. He wouldn't be so mad or angry anymore he wouldn't be "reckless" and "careless".

ReplyDeleteI think sean made the right decision to go down the cliff instead of going back, what changed his mind was when he saw another metal part that caught his eyes. However what would really give him the drive and ambition to go down was because david is his friend and he cares about david. so he did it for his friend, but now i would consider david sean's best friend, (david has shared some things with sean that he didnt even talk to his parents about)

@buttercup I don't really think he will get his legs back but you never know just like what happened to the athlete in the article that might happen to David it's possible just like miracles are too.
ReplyDeleteThat video about the paralympian made me think twice about the possibility of david being able to walk again. BUT, it didn't change my prediction, I still think david wont be able to walk again, its just that it wont work with the main idea of the book, when the author is telling us about equality, and the daily life of someone like david, and then all of a sudden at the end, david becomes normal and it proves that good things do happen? It just wont make sense when you put two completely different main ideas (life lessons) together into a book.
ReplyDelete@Sonali, I also don't think he will get his legs back. The thought isn't impossible, but it just doesn't seem realistic with the setting of this story. The possibility of Cell Regeneration in humans is still very young, the doctors in that article didn't have a medical explanation for this happening. So it will still be a while when they can safely apply it to humans.

Could have been anything, could also have been his imagination, deep down Sean wanted to believe he was there...because if not the WHERE is he?

ReplyDelete@Mr.Cheney that is true, i do not think that the main idea of this story is about miracles.Maybe anything ellse but not a mircle.For one example it could be about knowing how to choose friends as the first year when david was in that school he most likely looked at the "biggest" people there(having the most "fun") and look what happend to him he went to the principles office dozzens of times and got in trouble.But when he met David he imediately judged him and thought he was a small , peacefull guy , but whe he really got to know him he realized how fun he was although what he was and went through out his life.Maybe the author could be saying dont judge a book by its cover but i deffenetly do not think that this is about miracles(E.G David getting to use your legs again) if so maybe how friends can change your life and be a "miracle".

@Bubbles I think David is fine. In my opinion, Sean is overreacting. It's probably just some trash but deep down Sean wants to believe its David. I think he is just somewhere taking a breather. Maybe he was refreshing and thinking at the mall and is home safe right now. I don't think David did something drastic.

There is a chance that David might be down there because he got tired of being in a wheelchair and he thought suicide was the best option for him. Also, Sean cares about David. The story of the woman getting her legs back is a miracle because she ended up being in a wheelchair not suddenly she can walk again just by being hit by a cyclist. Its incredible.

@ Prabjot there's bound to be a way up because if there were no place to get up then you're in trouble picture the Humber river there are ways up everywhere and there are even paths you can follow and to get out of there.

@Prabhjot, I think he could see trash. They're on a steep hill right now that LEADS to the cliff. The cliff isn't just there. So, he could have seen the trash because of their location, but also because of the glimmer of light.

ReplyDeleteI think David did go down the cliff. the last thing that sean witnessed was when david peed his pants at dinner time. The next day david didnt show up at school and sean thought it was because he needed time on his own. david's mom didnt know that he didnt go to school, sean didnt tell her.

@ WORDNERD Do you mean he is trying to walk down the stairs or roll down the stairs because if he is trying to roll down the stairs won't he just get injured badly and not have a chance to regain his legs back?

ReplyDeleteI think that this was somthing unexpected. Everyone thought that Monique van der Vorst was going to die. It was a shocking think when I as a reader read this.
ReplyDeleteI think she must be really happy that she was one of the few who have gotten her legs unexpectedly.
I guess it was a good idea for Sean to go see where Davi is because as a friend, if something bad was happening, you would go help your friend or find him.
I think that Sean did see David wheelchair becasue it seems as that as a reader he is uncomfertable going down there, and in most storys I have read, When the person is uncomfertable, something bad is happening.

just to make sure David's not down there.This tells me that David and Sean have a very close relationship this is very touching because even if it's a narrative it shows me the type of friends that others can make.
I think it would be David's wheelchair thinking of the possibilities of what had happened it could be mugged,jumped or beaten up by the high school kids.
The story of her being able to walk again is interesting because I never knew because of a injury and then getting another injury can heal the first injury and the second injury.

i think Sean going down the cliff was a fine idea. I think it was a good idea because if Sean was worried about David and didn't actually take time to look for him he might feel guilty. He did have a thought to turn around and leave.

ReplyDeletei think the story of the ladie being handicap and getting her legs back us a miracle and not knowing what the reason for her to get her legs back is clearly a sighn of a miracle, leaves no clue or idea of what happeneed behind.when i raed the article i was amazed how an accident actualy helped to get ones use of legs back. also at the same time i was shocked!!! i wonder how happy that women would be now, like lossing the use of your legs, and getting them back after 11 years( i would have gone crazy knowing that and feeling that)

ReplyDeleteI think that the story of the parolympian is a miracle not like something a doctor did or helped with.I think this might not happen to David. I say this because I dont think david tries to do enough work to faith give his legs back. I think all he did was take risks that might injure him more.The parolymopian trained to be better in her situation. All David wanted to do was not accept the fact that he was disabled and he was just wasting his life waiting for a cure that his mom told Sean that it will happen about 30 yrs from now. This leads to my connection about the quote we did in class about how David's mom said that instaed of waiting embrace and enjoy the situation you are at.

I think that David is not down there, I think that he will show up at the dance, but I do think that Sean did do the right thing going down to see if he was there. I think that Sean is a true friend going down there to see if his friend is in need.

Maybe he is still embarrassed about what happened at dinner time and how he got rejected by Lisa,which he probably still is upset about because he told Sean he never got rejected before (well before the accident happened. ) and this might be hard for him since he really liked Lisa. Now he must be thinking that Lisa only rejected him to go to the dance because he's in a wheelchair and that he won't be able to dance.

@Mrcheney,No i dont think he should because he isnt sure if David is even REALLY down there and if he called the police and it wasnt Davids wheel chair , they would get angry.Also , if Sean didnt tell David mom then i dont think he would ever go to the police.Also he needs to make sure himlsef and IF he cant find David anywhere, then i think he should call Davids parents (to know if he is already home or a place they already know of) So basically no sean shouldnt get the police.

ReplyDeleteno, I think Sean shouldn't call the police, maybe David was somewhere else safe and i think if you contact the police and it was a mistake, you get a fine which will get him into trouble. Maybe Sean (as i said before) thought too much. If he was really was worried he should tell the truth to David's parents that he didn't show up at school. Whatever he does he shouldn't call the police. He clearly isn't responsible for the job. What he can do is tell David's parents to call the police, this will get him out of less trouble and also help David if he really did commit suicide or get robed or get beaten up.
But also, if David finds out that Sean ratt-ed him out to his parents, he might get really angry at Sean.

think yes if he's a true friend to David and really cares then yes he did do the right thing going down their it might have not been safe but think about wonder if David actually fell down the cliff. No one would really know where David is except for Sean because Sean hangs out with David and knows where David usually hangs out. Sean had the thought of wonder if David actually fell...is he ok? Now that is a true friend not seeing your friend at school for a day not being at home for a couple of hours made him really worried. a lot of people wouldn’t really care they would say oh its just 1 day who cares I’m pretty sure they will be at school the next day...but they never thought about wonder if they don’t come tomorrow, wonder if something really bad happened to them? Even though Sean was scared to go back because it was getting dark he became courageous and went back because he actually cared about David. Sean wants to get back home and get ready for the dance but just because of that doesn’t make him not want to help save or find his own friend the person that got him out of trouble, the person that made this the best than last year.
ReplyDeleteBut also I wouldn’t say it was okay for him to go down the cliff himself if he wants he can have an adult help him or someone trained to do this but not alone because it’s very dangerous just in search for David alone something can happen to him. Sean went out on the look for David but never really thought about the consequences he can obtain. It can be very dangerous I understand that it’s just a book but wonder if in this dark something happens? Sean rushing to find David but also trying to get home freshen up and got to the dance it’s a lot in a short period of time and anything can go wrong and ruin the whole day .He has to be careful.
I don’t know maybe David’s wheel chair was broken because he threw it down the cliff because he hated his life or maybe he got into a fight with someone.. There are many possibilities to it. Like this article where this girl that was getting ready for the Paralympics got her legs back it was a miracle maybe David gets his legs back too, it can be a prospect. Miracles like this don’t happen often it’s a 1 in 5 chances but that doesn’t mean there is never a chance for you. When Sean said if he was in a wheel chair he felt like dying now he really knows how David feels. Sean lived the life of David, Sean learned it was hard to live in a wheel chair but didn’t figure out about the feelings of someone which is important and gathering and pulling these little strings brings a whole collection.
@prabjot: yea David might get angry more because his mother has just proven the point of David being careless and David would think its all Sean's fault he shouldn't the grumpy boy all his life..life is to short enjoy it all you can cherish these moments and live it to you fullest as i re quote his mother had said.But If David does get really angry because of Sean calling the cops will they still be friends? would David be cool with it and let it go? Do you think David needs to be in Sean's shoes right now? Because I think David needs to feel how its like to be friends with someone that complains and gets angry about everything you say or do.

David just needs to go for a check up just to check if anything is wrong and that's is.David might get really really really fumed if Sean tells because David says hes not careless , David doesn't see the carelessness in himself and David wants to prove his mother wrong.But if its brutal and David cant get up things like that then there is need for a police because there is no way they both can hide this incident

Yea I think that this story is okay but it won't work all the time, If everyone is in a wheelchair and wants to get out there all going to get into another accident there not going to get there legs back they might but they have a very little chance of getting them back, They might injure something else like there brain then they can't talk or even get mental. I think in rebound David went to the old factory and where Sean Saw something, that's where David try's and gets his legs back by getting into another accident but like I said something might go wrong and something else would happen. Yes I think it is amazing that this person got her legs back and her story perfectly matches the book rebound.
