Rebound 22 - I Understand
David told Sean to come over to his house, so he could "understand" what his life it like. What does David have in mind for Sean? Post your thoughts and comment on others.
I think David will show everything him what he does and he he does things from when he wakes up till he goes to sleep, he'll tell him about his disadvantages and advantages. I also think that david and sean will play wheelchair basketball and that will give sean the full experience of david's daily life. David at first didn't like when sean and his mom were in his room invading his privacy but after he calmed down he realized that sean means well, and he is a good friend because he doesn't treat david differently like most people do, so david decided to let sean into his world so he can see how its like to be him.
I think that David will show Sean things about his life that he doesn’t have and can’t do know before he got into an accident. Which David wishes that it will hopefully show Sean how “hard” his life is. I even think that David has of maybe putting Sean in David’s shoes.
I strongly think David wants Sean to see what it's like to be a person different from the "norm". What it's like at home for him. I'm sure his parents got used to the fact that he's in a wheel chair and started accommodating him. By accommodating I mean they started adding things in the house that would help him. Such as ramps and easier opening doors with power assist or something. Sean, well none of us can see the world, the vision of reality as he sees it unless, we copy everything about him. I cannot see what David sees, And I back this up with that situation where Sean and David played basketball and David saw the high school boys make fun of him while Sean did not. I probably wouldn't see that either. I see Mr Cheney put understand in quotation. Understanding is almost like seeing. He wants to Sean to "understand" what he lives through. Maybe David wants Sean to see that he has a pretty good life outside of school. Maybe he wants to show Sean that he lives like a "normal" kid. He just wants Sean to see him normally as a "normal" person. He wants Sean to look at him and say that's my equal. I can't really see why he would invite Sean over to see what life is like for him, but since their friends, "best friends" you could say, it would only make sense, that Sean see Davids house, I think there's always that little thing that is never mentioned between friends that is, "I come to your house, you come to mine" maybe its just that. But, David mentioned understanding of his life. But, again I strongly think that David wants Sean to see what it's like to be a kid in a wheelchair.
I think David is going to give the repaired wheelchair to sean while he remains in his old one and go around town visiting shops or playing basketball etc.so sean could find out what davids life is like in a wheelchair.
@malav and donna i don't think they will play wheelchair basketball because there are probably more way to show sean how david life is like.for example they could go outside and see if people talk the same way like they used to talk to david with.
I think David will show Sean a lot of his memories, acheivements and talents from the past. I also think hes going to show Sean his everyday struggles that David faces physically and mentally everyday. Our simple things from the beginning of the day, to the end that David overcomes. Maybe after Sean will stop feeling sorry for him beacause he realizes how strong David actually is. Then they`ll play some basketball!
I think that David is going to show Sean there are many similarities between life in a wheelchair and life on foot, this way it will make Sean feel less pity for him and have more respect for him.
@Shelby I don`t think Sean realizing the similarities will power more respect towards David. I think the reason Sean respects David because he realizes that he`s different but can perform the same tasks at the same level, or higher(like basketball). But Sean would feel less pity if he realizes some similar character traits.
I think that David will tell Sean about his life and what he might do if he is able to walk again. Like Malav i think that Sean and David will go to a basketball court to play, and since David says that he has two wheel chairs he might give one to scott to see how hard it is
@ Shelby David doesnt play in a league wheelchair basketball but since the 2 on 2 game it shows that he has alot of experience in playing basketball in a wheel chair
I think david will show sean everything that happened to him before the accident and now.I think david understands that seans his friend. David is going to tell sean what he use to do and how he was good at basketball and about his pictures. But now his dream of a basketball player was gone he doesnt draw that much.Sean is the only person who understands david thats why david plays basketball and draws around him and not his parents.Hes different at home and other way at school.
@ prabhjot didn't David say that he can come over at his house for dinner, how can he do all that in one dinner. Or are you trying to say maybe after the dinner, he will show sean all these things?
I'm pretty sure that David is going to take Sean to his room and start telling him about his life. When he had his legs. He might even take it all of it back to when he was 4 years old and how he got his first basketball net. You never know.
@Lisa I can see where your coming from, but do you think Sean is ready to take all that information in? And is David really ready to give that information to Sean? Remember when Sean was explaining to David that Lisa wanted to go out with him, I thought that David wasn't so open with him. Do you think so? And do you think that his parents are sensitive about him or any other thoughts on his parents?
I think that David will show him or tell him a story that happened before that accident. Also maybe he will stay calm and explain how or why he smashed those trophies. From what both pf them had been through together I think that they're considered friends. Last but not least, I think that Sean will be very curious like how he was always when he was with David. I noticed that David is two-faced. At school he carry's on his dream either drawing or playing basketball, but he never does any of them when he is at home. I think David called him over because they are alike or he understands him.
I think that he will make Sean go on his extra wheelchair for on day and not letting him move his feet at all. I think that if I was David, I would make Sean do nothing with his legs for one full week. Make him try to get from his bed, and get to school without using his legs or even moving them at all.
@ shelby sure why not? it is very similar to actual basketball. and david could take sean to a comunity centre where handi cap people like david play basketball.
@ mr cheney sorry for not much participation from me lately...
@ anurag good idea could be possible. david will probably tell sean about what it feels like to be in a wheelchair, but you never quite understand the thought properly unless you actually have been or is in a wheelchair.
@ sana sean would be "different" from david and others because there, everyone will be in a wheelchair except for sean. so sean would have to use a wheelchair.
and yes they could also talk, but couldnt both happen?
I think that David will take Sean to his everyday life. Sean is invited on a special day but that doesn't mean that whole day is special just the dinner is. I think what David meant was he doesn't really like his parents and he wants Sean to see why. Maybe David wants Sean to see how he gets treated at home because maybe David isn't the exact same person he is at home. Also maybe their parents try to get David to start doing things he’s getting forced to do it but he doesn't do it and so David invites Sean and makes him see how his parents are like
@Gummachine:very good opinion but didn’t David’s extra wheel chair went to the shop to get fixed? And if he did have an extra wheel chair and gave it to Sean wouldn’t Sean say something because its not that easy for wheel chair to get fixed.
@Abeeshan:Yes David might tell him about the story before but if David gets angry because he cant play basketball again and breaks and hides his trophies why would he ever want to talk about the past ? Also David got really angry when his mother was showing Sean his stuff which i understand is maybe a reason to get angry but not really angry so is there a 100% chance that David will CALMY tell Sean what he did to the trophy? If doesn’t want to see the trophy’s why would he want to talk about them?
Legit-Blackcobra325 yes I know there are a lot of different answers but do you think David will feel really happy about telling Sean all this stuff? I get they are friends (somewhat) but what the chance he really wants to tell. It’s the same I told to abeeshan if he’s not happy seeing anything in the past because he was able to do it and no longer can do it would he really want to talk about it? David didn’t mind telling how it happened if it happened to me I wouldn’t really mind people asking me because if it was someone else I would ask but then it would bring me down if I go back in to memories of what I could do the things that made me happy and I no longer can do. I would say it’s more personal.
@Lisa: if David thinks Sean understands who he is why he isn’t so open also why Sean didn’t know what happened between the teen boys and them but David did it was I guess because they were looking at it in different ways. And I don’t think you can understand someone if you’re looking at something or someone in a different way
@Prabjot: yea he might make Sean look in his way so Sean can understand how he feels.I find that doing that will make them closer friends but do you think David really want to do that?
David told Sean to come over and see what life's like because he wants Sean to see how he lives life at home show Sean how complicated it is being In a wheel chair. Another reason why is that Lisa feels bad for David and Cares about him a lot and I think David only wants Sean to see how much he dislikes his parents because they treat him like a kid and not treat him the way he was always treated.
@ Neha I agree with you. David is going to let Sean see how much his parents care for him now and how much they treat him. As we know David doesnt want to be treated differently because he wants to be normal
@ anurag I think so too because now David and sean are friends I think David is now going to tell Sean what happened to him and how it did happen even though Sean knows about the accident because the boo boo's already asked that question and Sean was being a bit noisy and heard
@ neha Great prediction!! Yes I think that is the case. People behave differently around others... So I agree that David must act differently than he acts around Sean
David wants Sean to feel how he feels and how is life is like on the chair. I think David wasnts Sean to know how David feels at home with his parents. Maybe David gets treated differently at how then school that's why David is inviting Sean at a "special dinner day".
@neha ya maybe his parents are trying to make him do things that he can't really do like something a person who can walk can do but David doesn't want to do it.
@stanley ys maybe he does want Sean to know how complicated life is in a wheelchair maybe that's why he taught Sean how to use a wheelchair in the chapter we just read.
I think that david will tell sean to sit on a wheel chair and go around in it so, sean can find out how does that feels to be in A wheel chair and what are the things that david has to go through everyday.
I think David will take Sean to play wheelchair basketball, and Sean will be different than everyone for a change rather than david
ReplyDeleteI think David will show everything him what he does and he he does things from when he wakes up till he goes to sleep, he'll tell him about his disadvantages and advantages. ReplyDelete@Mr Cheney
ReplyDeleteSorry won't be back till 6 or 7.
I think David is going to give the repaired wheelchair to sean while he remains in his old one and go around town visiting shops or playing basketball etc.so sean could find out what davids life is like in a wheelchair.
ReplyDelete@malav how would sean be different david is still going to be on a wheel chair
ReplyDelete@malav and donna
ReplyDeletei don't think they will play wheelchair basketball because there are probably more way to show sean how david life is like.for example they could go outside and see if people talk the same way like they used to talk to david with.
i think david wants to make sean understand why he does cetain things like why he gets agressive when someone feels sorry for him
ReplyDeleteI think David will show Sean a lot of his memories, acheivements and talents from the past. I also think hes going to show Sean his everyday struggles that David faces physically and mentally everyday. Our simple things from the beginning of the day, to the end that David overcomes. ReplyDelete@nicole i like how you said david will show his achievement to sean because he was sorry for yelling at him
ReplyDeleteI think that David is going to show Sean there are many similarities between life in a wheelchair and life on foot, this way it will make Sean feel less pity for him and have more respect for him.
ReplyDelete@wordnerd what makes you think that David plays wheelchair basketball?
ReplyDelete@? Thanks I also mean his acheivements in life, not just basketball because the acciddent was only last year and he is overcoming it.
ReplyDelete@Shelby I don`t think Sean realizing the similarities will power more respect towards David. I think the reason Sean respects David because he realizes that he`s different but can perform the same tasks at the same level, or higher(like basketball). ReplyDelete@ Shelby
ReplyDeleteDavid doesnt play in a league wheelchair basketball but since the 2 on 2 game it shows that he has alot of experience in playing basketball in a wheel chair
@nicole if he had other life achievement wouldn't they be in the box with his basketball achievement?
ReplyDelete@prabhjot he wanted to tell sean about hislife in a wheelchair because he said understand what life was like for. him
ReplyDeleteI think david will show sean everything that happened to him before the accident and now.I think david understands that seans his friend. ReplyDeleteI think that he will make Sean go on his extra wheelchair for on day and not letting him move his feet at all. I think that if I was David, I would make Sean do nothing with his legs for one full week. Make him try to get from his bed, and get to school without using his legs or even moving them at all.
ReplyDelete@Anurag
ReplyDeleteWhy when he was 4 years old though. He would most likely would shot at like 6 because he would not been that tall when he was young.
@ abeenash yes it is i just thought that it would have been repaired by now
ReplyDeleteNot much conversation on the blog
ReplyDelete@gum machine i don't think that david is going to make sean stay on a wheelchair for 1 week
ReplyDelete@Abeeshan how does that make him two-faced?
ReplyDelete@Shelby I think he ment that David is like full of emotions.
ReplyDeletei think david is going to tall im about his life on the wheelchair not when he could have walked.
ReplyDelete@ shelby sure why not?
ReplyDeleteit is very similar to actual basketball.
and david could take sean to a comunity centre where handi cap people like david play basketball.

@ anurag good idea
ReplyDeletecould be possible.
david will probably tell sean about what it feels like to be in a wheelchair, but you never quite understand the thought properly unless you actually have been or is in a wheelchair.
Yes, its a grind to stay consistent and active on the blog, But you certainly get back what you put into it.
ReplyDelete@ sana
ReplyDeletesean would be "different" from david and others because there, everyone will be in a wheelchair except for sean.
so sean would have to use a wheelchair.

ReplyDeleteyes it could be possible that david dares sean to be in a wheelchair for like a day, so sean "lives divids life".
@gummachine oh i thought you said david should do that.

ReplyDeletei think prabhjot is right sean will be in a wheelchair because david said wants sean to know how he feels.
