The last chapter of the book was a wave of emotions. First the trip to the mall, where Sean saw first hand the "special" treatment, Secondly the humorous adventure at Wendy's restaurant, and Thirdly to the sad and truthful realities of David's struggles. At the end we left with both characters crying at the state of David.
Is David going to have the opportunity to throw his wheelchair over the cliff and smash it up on the gorge?
Is Sean going to be any different now that he has experienced all this? If so how might he be different?
Sean described David as RECKLESS! What do you think? Is he right?

I think that David will be able to get his wheelchair smashed on the gorge as he seems to be very interested and he has researched alot and he most likely will not stop until he gets what he wants just as david said when they were at the drive thru.
ReplyDeletei think that and i hope that david will have a chance to through his wheechair of the cliff becaue he is determined
ReplyDeletealso sean might be different after this expierience after seeingdavid sorrow and comdidtion
and yes i do think that david is reckless because he always takes risk and he could get hurt any minute.
I dont think David would have the oppertunity to throw and smash up his wheel chair because i dont think he would actually get out of a wheel chair because we near the end of the book and there isnt anything about David getting his legs back by the end of the book.
ReplyDeleteMaybe , Sean might be alittle diifferent because he understood the struggles David had to face every day and understand why he gets so angry because hes in a wheel chair and how it changed him.
No, i dont think Dean decribed David right because everyone has a reason for doing something and Sean just thinks that whatever Davuid does is just for his fun but it actually might have a meaning to it.Like his mother sees David as careless and Sean sees him reckless
I don't think David will ever get the opportunity to ever throw that wheelchair, unless he is in it. But if he got the chance, I think he would be more confident and positive.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Sean, he is reckless. David goes out of his way to find trouble and start a fight. Nothing David says is wrong, but he always approaches it in such an aggressive manner and starts a fight.
@ Janat How do you think Scott sees him?
ReplyDeletehow does Lisa see him?
Yes i think sooner or later he will be able to throw his wheel chair off the cliff. He just has to be patient and persevere.
ReplyDeleteYes I think Sean will change his personality because once he has lived the life of being in a wheel chair he will realize which he already has that its hard it may seem easy because they get the special treatment but really its not you tend to hate it a lot also because of all the stress that’s on the person they can’t do certain things for example climb up and down the stairs they have to take an elevator which takes time because first waiting for the elevator then going in it I find it takes a while especially when your kind of new to it. The thing I think Sean hated the most was when he was rolling and people were staring DOWN at him. I think he might have felt UN comfy because usually people don’t stare at him while he walks but now like almost EVERYONE is staring at him.
I think Sean is right because David does do stupid things that can get him hurt more than hurt he already is. David is careless he doesn’t really care what happens to him he just takes the risk. There are so many consequences to taking these risks he doesn’t care about it at all I think what goes on in his mind is what ever happens ,happens
@Nicole, unless he is in it? would he go that far?
ReplyDelete@rohan do you think that david will get out of the wheelchair even if he could get hurt any minute .
ReplyDeletei dont think that daviod is going to have the opportunity to throw his wheelchair over the cliff and smash it up on the gorge because i researched on it and it said that once you break your spinal code it can't regenerate so i think that he is never going to get rid of his wheelchair :(
ReplyDeletei think that sean is going to be different for now on because now he knows how it feels to be in a wheelchair he might just treat david the way he treats everyone else because he knows that if people treat you differently you feel bad
@Nicole: do u think David will take the risk to go down there? he takes stupid risks to do other things
ReplyDeleteI don't think David is going to be able to throw his wheelchair on the gorge, realistically its impossible for someone like him in a wheelchair to ever get back what they had because their spinal cord is broken.
ReplyDeleteI think Sean is going to be different after being in a wheelchair, because this is making him more empathetic towards David meaning that he now knows how he feels and what he has to go through everyday.
I think Sean might act a little different towards David, in the sense of he can relate to him more. When they were both crying, Sean felt David's pain and he related to him. That's why they were both crying. So I think he is more closer and can relate to him more.
ReplyDeleteI think that David won't have an opporotunity to recover and stand up again. This means he will never throw away his wheel chair. Although he is determined I think it's really hard to fix the vertabraes in the spine.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think that Sean will change his perspective on the concept of struggling. When we read we also read his inside thoughts. Remember how he thought about how hard sitting in a wheel chair is and how you'll get treated differently. I think from now on Sean will give more respect to the disabled or handicap people. I also think that he will remeber David when he sees wheel chair because I think this was his first friend in a wheel chair.
@MrCheney I meant that he would not walk again, therefore he would only throw the wheelchair if he was in it.
ReplyDelete@aqib
ReplyDeleteI think that he will, any chance he gets to even spend out of the wheelchair he will take it as he just wants to be "normal" and even play a little basketball out of that chair.
@Neha any other reasons why he would be able to?
ReplyDeleteI don't think that David will have the opportunity to throw his wheelchair over the cliff and smash it up on the gorge. I think this because i don't actually think that David will "magically" get up out of his wheelchair and throw it over a cliff where it would smash in a gorge. That is highly impossible.
ReplyDelete@Cheney
ReplyDeletei think scott might see him as a threat because one he took one of his best freinds(Sean), two he was defeated by sean and david in the basketball game and he felt very embarrased and even greg got angry with scott
Lisa might see him as a boy whos angry with himslef for being in a wheelchair and doesnt want to people who feel sorry for him.She might like him but at the same times she feels bad for david being in a wheel cahir and that just gets to David
@abeeshan
ReplyDeletebut cell regeneration can get his spine better can it not.
I think that David is going to have the chance to throw the wheelchair of the cliff because he will have the luck and determination to be able to get out of his chair and throw his chair. It could also happen because of the annual doctors check ups David gets I beleive in the story one time he will get the news that they have a cure for Davids paralisys and he will have the easy life that Seamn gets about everyday. But I also think that he will miss the chair because of it's strength to emotionally control others.
ReplyDeleteI think that Sean will feel different for David as he now knows that he will have that emotional feeling as when to hold the door for him, and be like the others instead of ignoring the state that he's in a wheelchair and have that special empathy as everybody.
I don't think that he's reckless I just that he's just a little more pushy than others because I do the same thing when a stores closed or I don't want to go inside I go to the Drive-thru and order and they let me get the food that means that the Wendy's CEO was just a little more strict.
@ aqib if he throws his wheel chair away that means he can walk right? So why do you think that he will recover.
ReplyDelete@Nicole, I know what you meant. My question was do you think he would throw himself and the chair of the edge?
ReplyDelete@Neha I mean he won't walk again so the only way he would throw down the chair is if he was in it.
ReplyDelete@Mr Cheney No, I don't think he would go that far to throw himself and the chair over the gorge. That's practically suicide.
ReplyDelete@Shelby:not really because like there is a possiblity that he can walk again but i find that the more you be stronger it may be able to happen but then now i read tehreems post of how spines cant regenerate i chage my mind theres no way it can happen if its not possible unless scientist find something to make spines regenerate
ReplyDelete@Tushar but in reality it takes long to find a cure for this.
ReplyDeleteDavid isn't going to be able to throw his chair down the hill and smash it on the gorge because in this society we do not have the technology to repair nerve cells. So that's why I think David will have no chance to throw his chair down the hill and smash it up on the gorge.
ReplyDeleteSean may act a bit different because he's heard David's stories and the struggles he has what I think Sean will do is back David up a lot more often and then David will feel a lot better because Sean will not be sorry for him.
Sean called David RECKLESS because David went down the escalators without thinking about the consequences David could have gotten heard really badly.
Changed my name It's Stanley
@abeeshan
ReplyDeletejust like what i said before cell regenaration will recover him.
Mrcheney, he could do that but that would be sucicde right and im not sure if David is willing to go that far because he had a srtong belief in getting his legs back
ReplyDelete@ aqib David said to Sean that nobody found a cure. He thinks that they will find a cure. So you can't be certain.
ReplyDelete@Neha exactly Ms.Ang told us that when you find the problem it takes years to find a solution
ReplyDelete@Nicole: yes i get what u mean but u said David is reckless and a synyom for reckless is irresponsible and David tend to take risks like go down the escaltor in a wheel chair so do u think he will go down as in taking a risk.
ReplyDelete@Shelby so you listen to Ms. Ang, but not your English teacher?
ReplyDeletei think that david
ReplyDeletewill get the chance to throw his wheelchair down the gorge because of our discussion about will he walk again, and cell reproduction.
the experience may affect sean because sean knows some of the feelings david goes through.
people treating him different,
talking slower like hes stupid,
and taking pitty on him.
sean may realize how people treat david
differently.
like the 2 teenager incident.
sean may pick up if someone is making fun of david.
i dont think david is reckless because
reckless is:utterly unconcerned about the consequences of some action; without caution; careless (usually followed by of ): to be reckless of danger.
david is fully aware of what he is doing.
how about DAVID is a thrill seeker, he gets an emotional "high" from taking dangerous risks.
ReplyDelete@abeeshan
ReplyDeleteya ok that is true
@Mr.Cheney yes i do
ReplyDelete@Shebly: yes its like cancer they are in the process of finding a cure but it has been quite a few years so ....
ReplyDeleteI think there was a poll that asked "Is David gonna walk again?" I answered No. So I'm gonna stick to that answer. I don't think David will have the chance to smash his chair on the gorge, because nerve cells don't regenerate, every cell except for the nerve cell regenerates. Maybe the doctors are lying to him, but not on purpose, Maybe they don't even know. I know many stories have a happy ending but, maybe this one has a sad ending.
ReplyDeleteI think Sean is going to be different now. He's gonna experience new things, stick up for David when he needs it. A whole new version of reality, a whole new box of emotions. Remember when that lady at the store, started screaming, thinking he was a "normal" kid and when she saw Sean she changed. He even saw it. Her attitude towards him altered seeing him in a wheelchair. Im not saying it was bad of her to think that way, because we'd all do the same thing. And when she talked to him in that slow voice, he probably thought how stupid she was. David having to listen to that all the time he would get pissed. He would be different seeing now that David goes through way more than him, he'll try to see things now from Davids point of view, he'll think before he acts around David.
I think I agree with Sean. David is reckless, doing all the things that could hurt him, climbing stairs, rolling across streets, going down escalators. Things that could even kill him. And I have this feeling that little path at the gorge is gonna be another one of his adventures.
david does seem to have alot of research about his injury and why wouldnt he? anyone one with an injury needs to know every little fact to help them recover. th wbook hasnt told us anything about davids reports so we have no idea of how david s injury is. this accident seems to happen last year which is not so much in the past but he fells that sense in his feet so there could be a possibilty of him recovering. also the fact that he is determined makes david think more of his injury and who ever is disable, is determined or has a confirm dream to recover. to me it think that the fact he is determined counts a bit because miracles can happen that i believe god makes.
ReplyDeletethis apperntly reminds me of the miracle that happened to one of my family friends. their whole family was planning to go to kerla (southern india) they booked hotels and eveything, but the kids wanted to go north of india. the family decicded to go to nothern india and after a few days they found out that the sunami occured i kerla and the hotel they booked was 90% in water. this happened in 2003. i find that as a miracle.
if sean describes daivd as reckless suppse to he is courageous and a risk taker then i definitely agree. he takes many challenges and even though he gets hurt he still wants to face another challenge. once he got bruises and cuts.
@word nerd but i dont think David will get his legs back by the end of the book
ReplyDeletei dont think that david will recover. i know a person that has been in a wheel chair for 25 years and they still havent found a cure. and this book takes place in the 90's so theres a very low chance
ReplyDelete@Neha David is reckless as in the sense of he is not concerned about the consequences. David said himself going down would be suicide so that wouldn't be taking a risk.
ReplyDelete@Shelby yes that is completely true but the book symbolizes reality but can't have everything in the book realistic.By the way, these days they are robotics for surgeons or doctors so it could be more advanced.
ReplyDelete@Nicole, so is David capable or diving off the cliff?
ReplyDelete@ mr cheney
ReplyDeletei think david could be a thrill seeker.
@Malav, enough to go off the cliff?
ReplyDelete@ mr cheney
ReplyDeletei think maybe because there was a pathway for people to go down
and he may also go down the pathway with his chair considering he went down stairs,
and the escalator.
@ janat
ReplyDeleteyou were talking about the end of the book, but in general,
in his lifetime, do you think david will get his legs back?
I don't think David will get a chance to get on his feet and walk and throw his chair down the cliff. After the Sean and David are crying and see how it feels to be David and hear his story I think he will start to treat him like he's not in a wheelchair and he's like everyone else.
ReplyDelete@ Blue Ranger Doesn't he already treat him like everybody else?
ReplyDelete@MrCheney no he doesn't only sometimes he does and now he knows how he feels to be in a wheelchair now he's going to treat him normally
ReplyDeleteI think that David will be able to get rid of his chair because he is full confidence that he will get his legs to work again. I also agree that he will be the first because he is that sure he is going to get it.
ReplyDeleteSean is going to feel different because he now understand how David is feeling. He can make a connection how difficult it is to stay in a wheelchair for a long period of time. Sean has got the knowing of what it feels like to be in one. How much you have to struggle for it.
I agree that David is reckless because the way he does the stunts is crazy. He looks like he is gone insane. He does not know what he is doing. He doesn't know when he needs to stop. I wonder if he knows that he might die if it went completely wrong.
Mr Cheney if you get the time I posted a link on Math class tab. Im sure the Grade 8's are stressed about a 3 PAGE test.
ReplyDeleteI think David will be able to smash his chair because he is confident that his legs wil start to work and remember how earlier in the story it said how that he felt something in his leg (pathchy spots) also when David and Sean was working on a science project they were working on "Cell Regeneration". Why would the author talk about cell regeneration? I thought maybbe because the author wants you to think if David ca really start to walk again. I think he will since David explained the topic really well because he really focused on it and he also believes he will be able to walk again. MIRACLES CAN HAPPEN!
ReplyDeleteSean will change because he knows how it feels to be in a wheelchair ( well at least for a couple of hours) butt he still experianced it and he now knows what it's like to live "like David". He also knows about the daily struugles David has to go through in his everyday life.
I agree that david is reckless because he "doesn't really care" about risking his life and hurting himself because how much more can he really get hurt? ( is what he thinks). David doesn't care about the consequences that would take place after doing something dangerous IN A WHEELCHAIR!
@ blaueranger only sometimes? really? David told Sean the only reason they are friends is because he treats him "normal". Maybe not all the times but it seems most of the times.
ReplyDelete@ Tabish Ill post it, thx.
@Mr Cheney No I don't think David is capable. Based on the text, I am unsure if even I can make a cliff as steep as that. Adding a wheelchair to that situation would be so much harder. Going downhill on wheels is very fast, and on such a rocky surface David could tumble down at any time
ReplyDeleteI think sean is going to change after that conversation with david because since he described david as reckless, it makes me think that he doesn't completely know who david is as a person. sean will get it once david tells him something that will open his eyes. David's mom even told him that david used to be a nice and happy person, and after his accident he became an angry, careless person. But that didn't open his eyes....
ReplyDeleteI dont think david really is reckless. There has to be a reason why david would seem reckless, and also a reason why he might seem careless. As Mr.Cheney said humans are more complex then that.
