I think that even if you have a dream, you don't always get what you want to achieve,it might be because they might not have the money or even if you don't study hard or other things. It does matter if your an easy learner or even if your better than the best, it mostly matters if you get in a good collage or an university and if you will get a diploma. Some people are better than the best and they know how to do what but don't have the money because they might be in a 3rd world country or they came here because they believed one of those offers that you come with us to America and we promise that you will get a job, well they do keep there promise but they give you a job of being prostitute or they don't give you a job at all. This mostly happens to woman. They are promised a job and they will go to America in hope for a good paying job to also help her family be held in what ever county she/he is from. I'm surprised because this is true and they still do it. I personal am against all this because as Mr.Cheney said today that there are people that are racist and they they will not stop, you won't avoid them, you just can't because it is not just one big monster looking down at you saying that you are different and picking on you. It's a lot of people.
I believe that this statement is false due to the fact that we've talked about the people that come to our school and say "In Order to be a success you need to have a dream and work hard!" but as we said none of these things really come true.. My parents have dreams about being rich and all but guess what..... we have a normal life like we aren't millionaire my parents worked really hard but they still aren't rich.
@ Mr Cheney say if people do use the quote "In Order to be a success you need to have a dream and work hard!" and do become sucessful doesn't that just change the topic around?
i heard that some people which are brown are studying almost all their life doing high scholar work but when they give their resume to the owner or someone for work the people sometimes don't accept it because they think they forged it due to the fact that their brown.
I agree with you when you said everyone has a dream, and almost everyone works really hard. I think it goes back with the hinges on the door. We all have a big door but not all of us have strong hinges. We all have dreams but not all of us have control of our futures. Our futures can be in our hands, but there are limits to how far we'll go, and how wealthy we can get. Due to the fact that there's too many people in competition with you. In university, there is a course, introduction for business and there are a lot of people trying to become businessmen/businesswomen. One out of twenty others would become a businessman/businesswoman. The hinges we have (middle class) are strong, because we are in a wealthy country. (and were not in america) But our futures are controlled by the people running the corporation/group we want to be in. We can get in, or we cant. But that's just for the people who want to follow the system and finish school and go to university, which is getting more popular. But then, think about agriculture. If everyones moving to the city and studying to become lawyers, whos going to farm all the food we eat? Well, this is something i learned by watching "college conspiracy" you see all the foods we eat prices are going to rise drastically. Cotton and wheat have already risen... My point is that if all our dreams are to go through the system and become one of the things that we wanna be, which is usually things they make us choose from. Either to be a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, a police officer or a fire fighter. They taught us this stuff since kindergarden, but they didn't say anything about the jobs that need to be done and that can get you wealthy. Farmers soon are going to be rich...
I think that just because you can have a dream and work hard for it doesn't necessarily mean that you can you can get a job become a doctor and whatever you wanna be.
I know as a kid, I want to be the most successful adult I can ever be. I have a role model, my cousin. He's handsome, can play sports, and he's smart. He's like the ideal young adult. I want to be successful like him getting a scholarship to a university getting high marks in university, in my eyes he's successful, I've never heard of the problems he had, the struggles he had to go through. But do you think for one second that if he was a janitor I would follow him, and he'd be my role model? No! not at all. See I've been raised to think and society has raised me to think in certain ways. He has an older brother whom I look down upon because he doesn't have a good job or a good house. I also know just because I've been raised this way my thought, my philosophy, and my idea of success is a nice car and a nice house, a nice wife, nice kids. Everything perfect has to happen in order for me to be named successful, at least in my world.
If you were to ask my dad what his idea of success is he would say "All I really want to do is go to heaven" that's his definition of success. I know it should be mine as well but society has changed me and formed me so that I think my father isn't cool. I conclude that your idea of success is your own and keep it that way
I think That this is true. Everybody says you have to chase your dream, And if you are unsuccessful, you didn't have a dream.
I find that ridiculous! Like Mr.Cheney said, that's not true Some people are very intelligent and had great dreams, but if they cannot get a job, people think that they didn't care about their future, and had no dreams. They are very stereotypical people, and do bot understand the concept of the real world. They are on their own island ( as Mr.Cheney calls it).
I have also learned a lot from what Mr.Cheney said today. I can also relate to what tulsi said in class today about how people are very successful and when they come to Canada, none of their degrees or diplomas or anything counts. So they are stuck with a job that they don't really want, but they have to do it, or else no money, and no food on the table.
When ever Mr.Cheney talks about things, like equality, it makes me think and observe our world, and make me step off my island
What I think is that people should stop saying that if you have a dream you will get it one day! Just by listening Mr.Cheney I had realise that everyone has a dream but its about money and how much you have. If you don't have any money then can can't aim higher. Everyone wants "Sick" things, it's just the small little things you do can help you get to what you want. You would need time and patience as well. Without them nothing can happen properly. Some people have a bad job like working a MC.Donald. They did study and try working hard but did not make it. I feel that it is sad because they had dreams as well and could not make it. They atleast have a job but not as we think as good. We all have dreams, but not many of us is going to get what we wanted. It a chance that we can all get what we want but also a huge chance we won't. Back to what I sayed before, it's the small things that make us reach to a higher level and money.
I agree with youre statement because ive seen many people work so hard on there goals but cant get there dream job because of systemic racism and like Tabish said as a kid you might not realize it but were not going to get our dream jobs, but i saw an episode of honna montana :D when she had to goto a bunch of first graders and teach them about not lying and she tells the ruth and is thought wrongly(not proper grammar) by the teacher and she asks the kids how much of them want to be president and they all say me and she tells them none of them are and i agree with her because first there can only be 1 president at a time and if the first black president was just elected how long do you think it will take for and brown or yellow person to be elected and thats caused by sytemic racism and you cant go around telling little kids that oh hey kid youll never be a singer people will criticize you even if youre telling the truth
I do belive that hard work pays off this could be connected to a movie that I watched called Pursuit of Happyness, the main character Christopher Gardner wife had left him,he was homeless and through all of this he had to raise a child on his own. In spite of this he had a dream of being a stockbroker and through hard work and dedication he became a stockbroker and made millions. Some may call it luck but I think it was his determination that made him such a success this was based on a true story
well just thinking about it something’s can come true but u will have to work hard for it go study don’t spend your time and waste money on other things. Spend it on studying. If u study hard get a degree and be very good in studies you will get a good and high salary job. If you aren’t that great in studies you won’t get a bad job u will get an okay but if your horrible and don’t care at all where do u think you will be?? You might be really rich... how? well by selling drugs or doing something really bad.Thats how in this world some people are rich not everyone is rich just cause they worked hard in studies and made something of them self its cause they did something really wrong and if they get caught they can go to jail. They did a crime and because of that some are in jail. But don't get influenced by other people just cause they are rich they did something really bad and that's not how you want to be rich because if u do one step wrong and police catch you think about spending YEARS in prison. YES you can be someone standing here today that has a high salary and is really good in studies but that didn’t mean u had a dream some have a dreams to be rich by studying hard and then everyone else well read-. Most teenagers watch TV and they show live the life party have fun and enjoy everyone feels like doing that that is there real dream. they don’t want to get stuck doing work. I can say almost every kid, teenager, or even adult want to do no work and be stinking rich out of nowhere. I want to have a new model car that’s sick and really expensive I want to live in the biggest house made but also I don’t want to do work. How is it possible? Working hard setting you mind I have this goal I will achieve it and don’t fall of the track you might be on or even you hanging on the bars make sure you don’t slip but also don’t hang on/squeeze to tight the bars might split sometimes working too hard can make someone’s mind blow!!Take it easy and slow...if you put the small hinges really quickly on the door might just fall if you put them on slowly and carefully they will be placed properly. Reading Donnas post she had said a lot of people trying to become businessmen/businesswomen. One out of twenty others would become a businessman/businesswoman. Yes but there are other opportunities too not only do people want to be a businessman/businesswoman but they also want to be doctors, engineer managers, artists teachers, lawyers, investment bankers, Senior managers of trade, broadcasting and other services, dentist, Senior managers of goods production, utilities, transportation and construction, Senior managers of financial, communications and other business services, Judges and Specialist physicians most of these are the highest paying jobs in Canada. There are so many options choose one but don’t be sloppy chose the right choice the one that suits you best. Yes it will take some time to decided it’s not a thing in kinder garden whatever choice you go with it doesn’t matter because both options are the same NO NO NO !Some jobs will take a lot of effort more than ever but some they will need but not as much. This is a decision that holds your life in it. Dreaming won’t make u rich or big just like that everyone has a dream but actually wake up and do it don’t stay in that fantasy world cause when you wake up you will be no where if u want your dream to come true you who will need to take sacrifices they will be big but DREAM IT, BELIEVE IT, BE IT!!
My thoughts were that to become a huge success in life you have to go after the small things like the hinges on a door because those small hinges can leave a big impact on your life (eg.A kid grows and gets straight A's on his report card but he dreams of the big things, after when he goes to university and gets a diploma he turns out to be a plumber. But even if you go after the small things and get a diploma some people might be stereotypical to the person. So you have to keep a eye on the hinges or you will have a broken doorway. :D
@ Stanly there are people that have dreams, work hard, and become very very successful. But other factors intentional or unintentional also helped them along the way.
But I wanted to stress they are a minority, and many people have great dreams and wonderful work ethic...and that just isn't enough.
I want to highlight the complexity of being successful.
@ Tushar, when we get to become level 3 bloggers there will always be comments. At the moment we are learning and without direct instruction to comment they are not being done.
@ Tabish, yes we all have our own ideas of success. But i challenge you that they are indeed somebody else ideas of success, that we have adopted as our own. Perhaps your determination of success should be fluid and ever changing and open to new ideas and growing perspectives.
@ Black Cobra, money is an important factor, it is one of the hinges on the door. Its important to understand if you have that as an asset, and if it is not, then it is equally important to understand it so you can make a plan to over come it. And by an extension having a dream and working hard are crucial but not the only factors to success.
@ Thamil, yes you never want to tell somebody they can't be something, but you should know all the obstacles in your way. and those obstacles are not simply not having dreams and not working hard.
@ Neha, that is so bang on. There are indeed people who make tons of money and have everything they ever wanted and did not have dreams or work hard. They could simply be criminals that spend their time taking from those that do have dreams and hard work. If stealing and being a criminal was hard and didn't work people wouldn't do it. But crime does work and it sucks many people into doing it.
to make a school connection...why do students lie...simply because it works! Regardless of being right and moral.
i don't think this quote is true because I had a dream to pass french in grade 4 but I never do good in it and don't know anything I worked hard in it but my dream never came true so i don't think this will work for people because there all going to have dreams that there going to be rich but all of them might not get it u have to work hard before getting to your dream then it might come true but hardly it comes true even the people that are successful they don't get there dreams.
But Shelby think about it Pursuit Of Happiness is a movie they usually Fantasize movies so you think every thing turns out goo in life but for a fact it doesn't i don't think directors want to have people leaving the theaters after watching a movie that made them depressed and disappointed after watching it and thinking i wasted $10 on something i could have stepped outside and seen
@Thamil, films are not facts. You make a strong point. However even if close to being true the important thing here is that there is one story that fits the description of rags to riches but the untold story is the millions and millions of homeless is an untold story. But you cant say homelessness is the byproduct of not working hard and not having dreams.
I use to think this was true, untill we had the class discussion. today i asked my dad what he wanted to be (or was), he said an engineer (in india) he got 8000 rs. a day (200$) but he wanted to go to canada because he thought he could get a better job. but turns out he was forced to be a security gaurd for about 2 years, then the next job he had was a truck driver. Now after 9 years he got a job that pays 180$ a day. but we arent rich, we are just an average family
@ aqib i agree some job owners are very stereotypical. @ Mr. Cheney why do people not give the job to someone of a different country then them. like if a brown person was trying for a science job, has his phd, and another white person trys for a scientist no phd, why do people most of the time pick the same race as them?
@Prabhjot, that type of racism does exist, but that is not the one we are talking about. We are going to learn about Systemic Racism - its not a person. Its the rules and values and institutions that we live in that unintentionally lend itself to inequality.
@Mr.Cheney No, there isn't because of the flourishing of other careers. Im assuming that if there isn't enough farmers to get the job done, the prices of crops will rise.
@ Master Chief some people are more ambitious than others and they know what they want and how to get it, why would someone stay at a job that they hve know intrest in when they know they can do better
@Donna Our future is not always in the hands of the Government. Most of the time we do. We are the ones who must work hard to get good grades, when were older to find a job.
@mr cheney Is it just society that influences us to be racist or sexist or is it the fact that they have a whole system dedicated to to make you think in a certain way? I always thought our parents and family had the biggest influence over us because we live with them but, It's very much what we learn in the school system, and what we learn from our peers.
in my opinion this quote doesn't really make sense because everyone has dreams but not all of them succed. some people have a great education but when they look for a job they cant find one also some people have great education and degrees from other countries but, when thay go to another country thier degrees dont count and they dont get a job that they dreamed for. some people dont have good education but, when they grow up they are rich because of thier background family. therefore, its not nessasary that everyne who has dreams succeds in thier lifes.
@Olga working hard and getting good grades is going with the system the government created. In America, the whole system is a scam, so every student who paid so much money to "learn" is jobless now because they had to pay off their dept. All those students futures were in the hands of the government.
@ Am17 You commeneted on my post but I don't understand what you ment when you said "maybe it's because they have money but if they are poor they could have a job" could you elaborate?
@vinay that just means that you give up really easily if your unhappy with your grade why would you sit there and continue to get that bad grade clearly you dont work hard to achieve your goal
@Donna You must keep in mind that when you learn in an Univerity and your taking a hard corse, your not gonna have the time to get a job. America does give money because this is the one of best places to learn comparecd to other countries in the world. You were talking about a agriculture and how there are less and less farmers. Well my best friends father was a farmer and he thought he would get moiney from that, but he didnt because the world doesnt care about organic food. So who do you think will buy all that food if no one wants to by. The one good thing that came out of that was that he got good food.
@ pizza Yes unfortunately this is the reality. I can realate to the part where you said that people have a very good education, but when they go to another county, their diplomas or degrees or any experience doesn't count. People can get into a struggle.
@Olga My grandparents grew up in a farm and both lived till their 90's except my grandmother died at 80 because of her love of sweets, thwe sweets they sell now a days.
@Sana thanks! i think you were the only person that actually read my post it was soo long i think a bit to long lol :P
@Prabjot: I do some what agree with our discussion in class but still working hard will pay off not working hard to be a criminal but working hard to be someone in life by doing a good deed and that good deed will be spending most of you time on studying. My family wishes they would be wealthy we could live in a big house have a good car my mom and dad lived India it was a developing country they couldn’t afford to send my mom and dad to high school and university. They came to Canada and saved up money they weren’t able to go to high school but my parents thought if they weren’t able to do it at least we can and my mom and dad don’t waste money on unnecessary things. They are saving up for our school. in high school there is a fee of 50 dollars every year and everyone does 4 years so 50+50+50+50=200 $200 spent there just for one person when I go to high school it will cost another $200 so $400 spent there just on high school. my parents want to make us something they weren’t able to do it but at least we will. See working hard will pay off saving money and not spending it on unnecessary things will make you far only if u do the right deed. In life our parents weren’t able to do it but to make them proud we can .we still half our life or even more...they saved up for us don’t put that to waste us it for useful things.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts were that to become a huge success in life you have to go after the small things like the hinges on a door because those small hinges can leave a big impact on your life (eg.A kid grows and gets straight A's on his report card but he dreams of the big things, after when he goes to university and gets a diploma he turns out to be a plumber. But even if you go after the small things and get a diploma some people might be stereotypical to the person. So you have to keep a eye on the hinges or you will have a broken doorway. :D
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't anybody post any more Comments. :(
ReplyDelete@ Stanly there are people that have dreams, work hard, and become very very successful. But other factors intentional or unintentional also helped them along the way.
ReplyDeleteBut I wanted to stress they are a minority, and many people have great dreams and wonderful work ethic...and that just isn't enough.
I want to highlight the complexity of being successful.
@ Tushar, when we get to become level 3 bloggers there will always be comments. At the moment we are learning and without direct instruction to comment they are not being done.
ReplyDelete@ Mr Cheney Thanks i was wondering why.
ReplyDelete@ Tabish, yes we all have our own ideas of success. But i challenge you that they are indeed somebody else ideas of success, that we have adopted as our own. Perhaps your determination of success should be fluid and ever changing and open to new ideas and growing perspectives.
ReplyDelete@ Donna, agriculture is an important field, but is it really flourishing?
ReplyDelete@ Black Cobra, money is an important factor, it is one of the hinges on the door. Its important to understand if you have that as an asset, and if it is not, then it is equally important to understand it so you can make a plan to over come it. And by an extension having a dream and working hard are crucial but not the only factors to success.
ReplyDelete@ Thamil, yes you never want to tell somebody they can't be something, but you should know all the obstacles in your way. and those obstacles are not simply not having dreams and not working hard.
ReplyDelete@ Neha, that is so bang on.
ReplyDeleteto make a school connection...why do students lie...simply because it works! Regardless of being right and moral.
perhaps everybody should take the time and read one other persons entry carefully and post a comment and question about what they said.
ReplyDelete@Shelby, agreed hard work pays off.
ReplyDeletei don't think this quote is true because I had a dream to pass french in grade 4 but I never do good in it and don't know anything I worked hard in it but my dream never came true so i don't think this will work for people because there all going to have dreams that there going to be rich but all of them might not get it u have to work hard before getting to your dream then it might come true but hardly it comes true even the people that are successful they don't get there dreams.
ReplyDeleteBut Shelby think about it Pursuit Of Happiness is a movie they usually Fantasize movies so you think every thing turns out goo in life but for a fact it doesn't i don't think directors want to have people leaving the theaters after watching a movie that made them depressed and disappointed after watching it and thinking i wasted $10 on something i could have stepped outside and seen
ReplyDelete@Thamil, films are not facts. You make a strong point. However even if close to being true the important thing here is that there is one story that fits the description of rags to riches but the untold story is the millions and millions of homeless is an untold story. But you cant say homelessness is the byproduct of not working hard and not having dreams.
ReplyDeleteI use to think this was true, untill we had the class discussion. today i asked my dad what he wanted to be (or was), he said an engineer (in india) he got 8000 rs. a day (200$) but he wanted to go to canada because he thought he could get a better job. but turns out he was forced to be a security gaurd for about 2 years, then the next job he had was a truck driver. Now after 9 years he got a job that pays 180$ a day. but we arent rich, we are just an average family
ReplyDeleteAlso, my parents wanted to be rich but we arent
ReplyDelete@ tushar being a plumber pays alot, you need degrees, diplomas and stuff like that for it, you have to work hard for it
ReplyDelete@ aqib i agree some job owners are very stereotypical.
ReplyDelete@ Mr.
ReplyDeletei know, i was asking why people are very stereotypical
ReplyDelete@Prabhjot your right but I meant to emphasize as what the kid Didn't waant to be.
ReplyDelete*want
ReplyDelete@Mr.Cheney
ReplyDeleteNo, there isn't because of the flourishing of other careers. Im assuming that if there isn't enough farmers to get the job done, the prices of crops will rise.
@ Master Chief some people are more ambitious than others and they know what they want and how to get it, why would someone stay at a job that they hve know intrest in when they know they can do better

ReplyDeleteOur future is not always in the hands of the Government. Most of the time we do. We are the ones who must work hard to get good grades, when were older to find a job.
@mr cheney
ReplyDeleteIs it just society that influences us to be racist or sexist or is it the fact that they have a whole system dedicated to to make you think in a certain way? I always thought our parents and family had the biggest influence over us because we live with them but, It's very much what we learn in the school system, and what we learn from our peers.
in my opinion this quote doesn't really make sense because everyone has dreams but not all of them succed.
ReplyDeletesome people have a great education but when they look for a job they cant find one also some people have great education and degrees from other countries but, when thay go to another country thier degrees dont count and they dont get a job that they dreamed for.
some people dont have good education but, when they grow up they are rich because of thier background family.
therefore, its not nessasary that everyne who has dreams succeds in thier lifes.
@ tushar
ReplyDeleteif you never wanted to be a plumber, you cant really get the job, its not like being a taxi drver when you dont want to
@vinay you don't only have to work hard , you have to go after the small things too. Didn't you notice that ?
ReplyDelete@Olga
ReplyDeleteworking hard and getting good grades is going with the system the government created. In America, the whole system is a scam, so every student who paid so much money to "learn" is jobless now because they had to pay off their dept. All those students futures were in the hands of the government.
i think you should work hard because if you don't work hard that means you don't want to be sucessful
ReplyDelete@ Am17 You commeneted on my post but I don't understand what you ment when you said "maybe it's because they have money but if they are poor they could have a job" could you elaborate?
ReplyDelete@Prabhjot I get what your saying but sometimes some people are systemic racsist. Therefore they don't end up getting the job they wanted.
ReplyDelete@tushar
ReplyDeleteif you work hard of course you are going after the small things too.
@vinay that just means that you give up really easily if your unhappy with your grade why would you sit there and continue to get that bad grade clearly you dont work hard to achieve your goal
ReplyDeleteYes it's true that to be a success you have to work hard but you don't always achieve your dream even though you put your best.
ReplyDelete@Tabish
ReplyDeleteOur society is brainwashing us into thinking lots of different things, they're creating new ways to scam us.
@Donna
ReplyDeleteYou must keep in mind that when you learn in an Univerity and your taking a hard corse, your not gonna have the time to get a job.
@stanly
ReplyDeletesure, some people are poor works hard in studies and earns money
@tushar
ReplyDeleteyea I noticed that thouse are the small things that lead to big things.
but i know some people who worked really hard to be sucessful and can't find a good job so they have to work in a store or drive a taxi etc.
ReplyDeleteso i guess i'll stay neutral
those
ReplyDelete@ pizza
ReplyDeleteYes unfortunately this is the reality.
I can realate to the part where you said that people have a very good education, but when they go to another county, their diplomas or degrees or any experience doesn't count.
People can get into a struggle.
@SONALI so why stop there you dont nessisarily have to achieve you goal bout just achieve something that your ok with and find instrest in
ReplyDelete@neha i even like your idea of how uncucessful people make their dream of becoming rich come true by selling drugs
ReplyDelete@Olga
ReplyDeleteMy grandparents grew up in a farm and both lived till their 90's except my grandmother died at 80 because of her love of sweets, thwe sweets they sell now a days.
@Sana thanks! i think you were the only person that actually read my post it was soo long i think a bit to long lol :P
ReplyDelete@Prabjot: I do some what agree with our discussion in class but still working hard will pay off not working hard to be a criminal but working hard to be someone in life by doing a good deed and that good deed will be spending most of you time on studying.
DREAM IT, BELIEVE IT, BE IT!
@ neha i also read ur post :P
