Make a connection.
Make a self to text connection from your reading today. How does the text connect with your life experiences? Have you been involved in a similar incident? Felt the same emotions and struggles as a character you read about?
You should have a book for IRead periods. The second you need to get a book from the front I am able to distinguish that you are reading rather then active reading. Not having a book for IRead is a very telling statement about your involvement with reading.
For the next period have a book you have been reading and are continuing to read.

first of all the i was reading was about metal and what they are.My self to text connection is my daily life and metal because know when i think of it it is all around me like in the morning when i have a bowl of cereal my spoon is metal. Also at school the METAL part of the pencil used for erasing. So my self to text connection is that metal is an essential thing in life.
ReplyDeleteMy text was connected to me because it was about Beaumonde because it was there year book but in mt other book i think it relates because there's this one part where one of the characters gets lost in a forest and finds out that the animals are endangered because monsters called Rat creatures kept attacking them and kidnapped there parents and hes in the middle of helping them
ReplyDelete@master cheif
ReplyDeletei dont get it how does this relate to you
OH my bad and i tend to help alot of people
ReplyDeleteIn my book my character was given a poison to be tested on her and she tried it and she quick fainted and when she woke up she was better and continued her life. This connects to me because I was given some bad luck today due to the fact that I dropped my iPod outside, Ms.Jackson took my iPod when we got in Ms .Ang took my bag this part was like my character taking the poison I just blacked out my mind was out of control but Ms.Jackson talked to me and said she'd give me another chance and not to see it again and I got my bag back and I continued my life from there on.
ReplyDeletethe book i read today was geronimo stilton in the wild wild west.in this book geronimo dreams about going to the wild west and also dreams that he saved the wild west from the evil mouse that been stealing water from the people who lived in the wild west.this relates to me because i love taking risk and going on adventures.in addition i even had a dream that i was in the amazon rain forest and had just discover a plant that could cure cancer.DON'T LAUGH AT ME.
ReplyDeleteThe book i read was "REBOUND"
ReplyDeletei continued reading chapter 7 and beyond i think i am on chapter 9 now. i don't want to tell anything else about it because it will ruin the suspense!
@stanly
ReplyDeleteso you are saying that you had a bad time but you moved on.just want to clear it out
the book i read was big nate. this book is about how he gets in trouble alot and its his diary. this book relaes to me because we are both in grade 7 and we both have older sisters that are VERY annoying
ReplyDelete@prabhjot
ReplyDeletehow else does this relate to you
@prabhjot i know this site called poptropica and there this island on it called nare the gratein thisyou have to be nate and complete his adventure for him. So while i was the that game i saw that there was book coming soon and i think thats the book you are reading.
ReplyDeleteThe site is called poptropica.com
my bokk "Now you see me..." is about two best friends (lena and abby) having a search for an impulse cameras( the on ethat you take a picture and it comes out of the bottom) but when they look far and wide in every thirft store they finally found one but... its haunted. every time they took a picture a dark boy came in the picture. at first they thought it was double exposed but even if they put a new film, it still happenned.they decided to search this haunt thing up look at the pictures carefuly and end this whole creepy issue. but they didnt tell their parents. oh but the parents knew that lena bought an impulse camera.
ReplyDeleteas an active reader i think that the haunting thing can be anything. it can be a difficulty, a hard time, a fear, etc.
i remember a fear that i had when i was very small(4-5 age). in my house the basement would usually be dark because we barelly opened the curtains and ever since i saw cartoons about those evil guys like theives/etc i was scared to go to the basement alone, even if i wanted to get my ice-cream from the frezer! until i saw a good movie i was scared.
The book i am reading is named The Forbidden Daughter. It's about a woman that struggles to survive after her husband murder. She moved out of her cruel in-laws home and now lives in a boarding house trying to raise her child and newborn who had been labelled as a curse(because shes a girl).I can relate to this because it reminds me of the times I went downtown and saw the homeless people on the streets, holding out cups asking for money or holding up signs asking for help, and how many of them have horrible past which led them to where they are now like finance problems or personal problems. Some of them may even have a great past like the character in the book but something drastic could have happened which then leads to them sleeping in shelters or on the streets
ReplyDeleteI was reading a book called "Anne Frank Beyond her diary" and I can relate to her because of her personality is close to mine, talkative and her hobby being writing...but i also can relate to her like everyone else can, just like what her and her family had to do is what all of us do on a daily basis. Anne and her family had to go into hiding because their fear towards the nazis and death. I always stay away from the things i fear, even if it's a small thing like heights. Everyone tries to stay away from "danger" or whatever they would consider danger.
ReplyDelete@ stanley the girl got tested knowing that she was going to get tested so that wasnt her bad time because not always we do something purpossely and you get your bad time. also the girl knew that she was getting tested so she knew that this could be bad to her but you dropped your ipod acciedentally so you diddnt know that your bad time was comming up.
ReplyDelete@Prabhjot could you elaborate more because just saying that your in grade 7 and have an annoying sister is not a good connection
ReplyDeleteThe Book I was reading was "Bone"! It's a great book for people that enjoy new adventures. The text to self connection is that we all are in an adventure! We just don't really see it. Every seconded in life, it is an adventure. Bone is on an adventure to get back home and now his in a whole new adventure where he has to find his cousin and his bestfriend Thorn! They got separated because of the war. It connects to us because it's like we have an adventure of life. We do quest like doing our homework to get to watch tv or play COD "Call of Duty" It set you on a quest to get the reward.
ReplyDeleteThis is my connection to my book!
@tulsi are you reading those candy applebooks because i readall of and i think i remember reading about lena and abby.i luved that book
ReplyDelete@tulsi i just looked through my collection of poison apple books and the book you are reading is called now u see me and now u don't.am i correct
ReplyDelete@ Stanley, sounds like a tough afternoon. was it really like poison?
ReplyDelete@ Thamil, you do have a helpful nature!
ReplyDelete@ Sana, I had no idea you were a risk taker!
ReplyDelete@ Pizza, hahaha, I'm glad you are excited about the book and reading ahead!
ReplyDelete@ Prabhjot, do you get in trouble a lot, like Big Nate?
ReplyDelete@donna i read that to i got to the part where they send anne to live with her grandma i think because situation were getting bad where anne and her family was living.i forgot what they call that day where people started breaking the window of the store that were owned by jewish.i think it was called the night of glass or something but could you comfirm it for me.
ReplyDelete@ Tulsi, great connection, from being haunted in the text to you being scared as a little girl because of the basement. I think many of us were scared of the basement when we were younger!
ReplyDelete@ Shelby, wow what a powerful connection. Yes my children are so sad when they see homeless people. They want to know how this could happen to anybody, and they all have a story to tell
ReplyDelete@mr cheney i took a risk and ate worms in front of my friends.also took the risk when my cousin dared me to act like a monkey until a car passes by.
ReplyDelete@ Donna, you have discovered a classic theme of hiding and running away from fears.
ReplyDeleteand yes many of us have things we try to avoid.
ReplyDeletethe book i was reading was 39 clues the maze of bones.
ReplyDeletein this story, the main characters are
dan and amy.
they are siblings.
right now, there grandma, the one that loved them and they loved died.
now the only family that they have left is their grandma's sister.
life for them is hard and challenging.
amy is too scared to stand up for herself,
and gets pushed around.
dan has an interesting personality, and devotes his life collecting rare things, like baseball cards.
he is aiming for a babe ruth card.
he also collects autographs.
he is someone that is "different" and "odd" from others.
no one really understands them, especially
their grandma's sister ( who is their guardian).
this relates to me because im like amy.
im too scared to stand up for myself, and i always get pushed around.( not necessarily at school, but other places).
and i am like dan because i am different from others, and definitely odd.
i havent read my book too much to have a lot of connections, so this is stuff that i have noticed that are similar about me, and the characters.
*act like a monkey on the street
ReplyDeleteGood questions from a few students. Yes generate dialogue, read other comments and challenge and ask questions.
ReplyDelete@ Cobra, yes indeed you can make the connection that life is one big adventure, if you just took the time to step back and look at it.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you want to get from your adventure?
@ donna
ReplyDeletei can relate to getting scared....
like i said in my post,
i get scared, especially when it comes to standing up to people.
and yes, i think most of us want to stay away from danger, but sometimes, curiosity can get the best of you
@ Sana, Kristallnacht is the word you were looking for.
ReplyDeleteGreat job reading and responding to others. You are demonstrating level 4 responses and participation.
@ malav
ReplyDeletethis reminds me the unfortunate event when the parents of 3 kids names sunny klaus, sunny and voilet died in a fire.so they had to go live with count olaf which they hardly knew.they had to go live with him because they had no one except for him left in this world and count olaf made them do chores, like cleaning, cooking etc.
@mr cheney thanks for the word
ReplyDelete@ Malav, I think many of us get pushed around, and like Donna commented we are too scared to face it and simply run and hide. Someday you will find the strength to stand up when you are being pushed around.
ReplyDelete@ shelby
ReplyDeletenice connection, is the book you are reading good?
sounds interesting, but what would you give it?
out of 5
i want to know because i want to try reading other books...
i only stick to fantasy, but i feel like i want to read other things.
@ mr cheney
ReplyDeleteyes.
i can completely relate.
and thanks.
i hope i can find the courage to, and also to anyone else who have or feel the same.
@ sana wow
ReplyDeletesounds interesting.
i see a lot of people reading it, but i have never bothered because it seemed boring to me.
but this sounds good.
i will give it a shot.
@Malav yes this book is interesting it is written by an Indian author, so it talks a lot about the Indian culture so i am learning a lot one thing that i have learned is that Indians prefer boys because they keep the family name that was one of the reasons why the baby was labelled as a curse because she was a girl
ReplyDelete@Malav i would give it a 3 out of 5 because sometime it takes the author forever to get to the point and sometime the author revels to much which makes some parts to obvious
ReplyDeleteThe book I am reading is the series of an unfortunate event this book doesn’t relate to me but the storyline I have saw in movie shows books and even in real life. The book started off as 3 kids Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire. There orphans after their parents are killed in a fire at the family mansion. They then were placed in custody of their distant cousin Count Oaf, who begins to abuse them and openly plots to misuse their legacy. This is a connection because people have step grandparents, parents, cousins, and/or siblings. They might be younger or older or even the same age as you but they might treat you like your no one which brings you down they try so hard that u fall on their feet. Just like Cinderella she had 3 step sister and a step mother. Whatever happened to her? Her step’s made her the maid of her OWN house and in a lot of stories and movies this is what the main situations are so it doesn’t matter to them if you older or younger they want u to fall on their feet, they want to be the queen or king and a lot just tend to fall in an instant but you have to stand up for what’s best for you have to stand up for YOUR right. So basically the connection between the two stories is they both get treated in a wrong way and become people that are treated like trash. How do you treat trash do you take very good care of it?? NO u just toss it around throw it in the bin you don’t care if it’s clean or if it’s in the right bin u just DONT CARE AT ALL why??? BECAUSE IT’S TRASH! That how some people are getting treated like I would never want to be treated like that and I know neither would anyone else but then why are other people treated like that?
ReplyDelete@neha your reading unfortunate event to well i had watch the movie before i even knew there was book on it and even if i knew there was book on it it won't be my reading level because i was the age of 5 i watch the movie.but i read some books from the seris like when they go to foster home or something.
ReplyDeletei'll bring in the moive if any of u r interested
@ shelby
ReplyDeleteokay thanks.
ya...
it doesnt sound good that the author doesnt put description at the right time.
i like rick riordan.
his books are very detailed, and it makes me very addicted to read more.
wow i read already read most of the books that your reading rite now like poison apple book, unfortunate events(well i saw the movie),and dairy of anne frank and i hate reading books that is why im glad mr cheney is reading rebound to us
ReplyDelete@shelby why is the newborn lablled as a curse???
ReplyDeleteis it because boys r better then girl or is there another reason
@malav or you could give a shot to the movie
ReplyDelete@ sana i will do both.
ReplyDeleteand
it is not that they are better,
it is just how some people think
@sana thanks i will check it out when i get home
ReplyDelete@mr cheney i use to get into trouble alot but not any more
@Sana Im actually not at that part yet! Thanks for ruining it for me...LOL im on page 47 (slow reader)
ReplyDelete@Malav please explain why curiousity has to do with people's fears cause i dont get it
@ donna sorry for ruining it for u but i didn't ruin the whole book for u.
ReplyDelete@ Mr Cheney yeah it was really like poison because I felt like I was going to die. (Just Exaggerating)
ReplyDeleteThank you vey much Mr.Cheney on such kind compliments i think iam and to the people that didnt understand what i said i think i have the whole kind nature not that i go into a forest and make fires and help little animals from Rat Creatures
ReplyDelete@Sana
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah XD
Series of unfortuanate events! I used to love that series!
@Sana the baby was labelled a curse because the main character Isha was having another child that is a girl and her in-laws already treats her first daughter with no respect, so when they found out the baby was going to be a girl they got extermly upset and said they wanted a boy to keep the family name they also had a tire company which they wanted to pass on to the boy but since shes having a girl they can't
ReplyDelete@Mr Cheney: My goal to get from my adventure is to a succesful person and be the best Cod payer I can be!
ReplyDelete@donna i used to luv the movie
ReplyDeletei did like the books but i like the moive more
@Neha i liked the first book of that series to but the books after it seemed really repetative because it always had the same plot as the first one and you were always able to fnd out what might happen
ReplyDeleteThe novel 'I've Got An Idea' by Eric Walters, is a book abot a girl named Twilight. She comes to a new school and she is not really the shy type. Twilight is very differnt than the other students in her class, she has red hair and has a rock thyme. In that school two 6 graders, Alex and Sam. Sam is more of a genius (atleast that's what Alex says) and Alex still smart but not that much as Sam. Twilight is talking to Alex and Sam, it's going very well. I have been going to Beaumonde Hieghts my whole school life so I ca't really connect about going to a new school, but I what it feeols like to be new in a group. In bible study class there were new people last year, I had to go alone even though I knew I had to go to my old class with my old friends. I felt a little bit like Twilight because she is not scared of who she is. Instead of being scared and thinking in her head.."New school better stay quiet" She was thinking to be a live fun open girl.
ReplyDeletethe book i was reading is called Matilda. This book is about a a 5 year old girl named Matilda. Matild is a smart girl who starts to devolep powers in which she can move and lift things. Matildas parent are real mean and nasty, her dad is a car dealer and the mom goes out every afternoon to play bingo. They treat her with no respect and they dont care about her. In fact, they didnt even know when her birthday was and they didnt know how old she is. They always ate TV dinners and she was forced to eat in fron of the telly and eat TV dinners. Now, Matildas parents were not that bright people. They always did cruel stuff to her. So when they did bad things to her she would punish them. For example, when her father had ripped her book she got from the libaray she put superglue on the hat that her dad always wera to work when he put on the hat his head was stuck. The super glue is so strong that it can rip of his skin if you pull too hard.
ReplyDeleteSo Matildas mom took a pair of scissors and cut the hat of his head she cut the rim off his hat and then the top so when she was done cutting he was almost bald and you can see the tiny little patches of leather from the hat on his head.
When Matilda started school for the first time (she didnt go to school because her parents didnt bother to take her because they didnt know her age and they dont really care much about school) she mety her teacher Ms. Honey. Ms. Honey was a beautiful and smart teache. She adored Matilda for her intelligence.( Matilda was smarter than all her peers. In this school there was the principal and the principals name is Ms. Trunchbull. Ms. Trunchbull was a big strong woman and she HATED children. She would take little girls by there ponytails and spin them around and fling them off in the distance. She had a closet in her office called the chokey she would put children in there and from every corner, ever wall there were needles and spikes coming out of it and if you dared to lean back you would get stabbed all over by the pointy objects. She was a bad woman.
@ donna
ReplyDeletethat is not completely what i meant, but
you can consider it like that, and well,
curiosity can be your fear.
you may wonder what it would feel like to do something, but you also fear that if you do try, something bad could happen.
and so, in a strange way,
curiosity can be a fear.
to me,
this was a good question, because it got me thinking more.
This is also like
ReplyDeleteCuriosity killed the cat.
Killed is symbolic for trouble.
When someone is told not to do something,
And they do it,
They get in trouble.
And people call it curiosity killed the cat.
In this case, u are afraid and u are curious and you wonder,
What if I stand up to my fear?
And if u get into trouble, or get
Into a situation,
To me,
That is like curiosity killed the cat
